Another week in the books! One filled with rent-paying-work, obligations, birthday parties and the Jazz In Catstown Festival. Hence, not that much time was left to get our HiVe fun done. This week, we’ve got some things planned before we head off to Down The Hill Festival in Belgium. One of them being a freakishly awesome Full Album Premiere! More on this very soon! But last week we did reposts of the Doom Charts blurbs we wrote. You know, Druglord, Heavy On The Ride and Rezn. Managed to let you all know that there’s a new video and a new single coming for An Evening With Knives and published a few words about the wild new Besvärjelsen album. Hope you all check those out! Worth every second of your time… And here’s hoping we can do more this week!

The most important thing this week… We are honored to present to you new Weekly Top 10 Most Listened art by the one and only Bobby Rayfield from Inherent Records and Monuments In Ruin. Prompted by Shrubbery Terror and his remark that those vinyls on top of each other hurt, Bobby immediately went to work and made this wonderful Stoner HiVe Cabinet, within a week! We can’t thank him enough for all his time and energy, and we can’t wait to start spinning those records all situated nicely in upright position! Grin!

Another week in front of us, which means another one in the books. Hope it’s been a good one for you all! It was a busy one and hectic finish, but that seems to be the status quo recently. We hope to finish a few things we’ve been working on this week or at least before we leave for Down The Hill Festival. We’re leaving for Belgium on Thursday the 20th, so let’s get cracking on all we want to do till then! Last we week we managed to spread the word on that magnificent and free Bootleg Series by King Buffalo, wrote about that wild Ancestro album, that gritty grunge release by Last Band and the weird and eclectic Modula Nation. And we had the privilege and honor to Premiere the new single by Buzzard! The week ended with the new July edition of the Doom Charts going live! Which is always a good way to end things… Right? Here’s hoping we can get some HiVe stuff done this week… We’ve got a lot waiting to be finished… Enjoy yer week!

Morning everyone! What a week! Had hoped and expected to have more time to HiVe. But rush interviews with Iron Jinn and Hawkwind’s Dave Brock popped up. And with the deadlines for today, most HiVe work had to take a backseat. But luckily we did have a smidge of time and energy to upload a few reviews we’ve been working on. Kardeathian released their first single, Solace grabbed everyone with their new Faiding Failing Ruin album and Vordermann is about to release their new Feeding On Fireworks. Last one that went live is for the stunning Shadow of Jupiter album. Those four write-ups and the Top Ten Listened To The Most could keep you busy for quite some time if you haven’t heard them. And if you have, let us know what your favorite is! Have a great week!

We’re entering a new week! And we look back at a fairly doable week when it comes to Stoner HiVe posts. Thanks to our comrades Jon McGough and Ronny Dijksterhuis. For our in house poet delivered a wicked eleven spotted Quick Fire Friday session and Jon gave us on kick ass Khemmis and for the jaw-dropping Jovian Queen. And there were words for the Doom Charts Number One album from June: Tidal Wave! And a long overdue write-up about the lovely Green Desert Water. All in all… Not a bad week. Right? Well, let’s hope to do more this week! Have a great one!

Stoner Hive’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner Hive’s Quick Fire Friday

Welcome! To another wild Quick Fire Friday edition.. Courtesy of our in house poet: Ronny Dijksterhuis.Slinging his words with precision and honor he is here to show you the way through some seriously underground cul de sac's! Presented below are ten glorious singles and EP's all worth every second of your time... Ronny Dijksterhuis knows the deal! And you know what that means... Things will get hot and heavy from here on in!

For those of you who are still in WC football detox mode, we present you a full heavy underground team of top-notch players who would've left the eventual champions stranded in the middle of the Arizona desert with ease. No Philadelphia highlights, no unwanted halftime show and no hydration breaks, especially not in the desert where lots of our stars bloom in the best way possible, kicking up dust and eating cacti for breakfast, lunch and dinner while gulping sand like it's some kind of high quality Belgian beer. Yes, it's Quick Fire Friday again with not 8, not 9, not 10, but a once in a lifetime 11 (relatively) new singles and EP's we here and Stoner Hive think you all should check out to conquer the blistering heat of summer. Concentrating on Travo from Braga, Portugal seems like the perfect way to start this exercise.

Travo - Burial

'Burial' is the first appetiser from Travo's upcoming album 'Wasteland' that will see the light of day on October 2nd. It's a loud, thunderous and abrasive take on heavy psych with thick riffs, a monstrous rhythm section and an overdose of psychedelic goodness that blows you way back in your seat, waiting for that glorious moment to arrive when the sound barrier is being smashed to smithereens.

30,000 Monkies - Prism Break / Super Rebound

30,000 Monkies from Beringen, Belgium are making sure you will all mark September 18th on you Calendar with a big red dot. Because the two songs they released so far from their upcoming album 'Super Rebound' (the title track and 'Prism Break') are a perfect example of technical, repetitive, experimental metal with lots of punch and more than enough variation and subtle shifts to keep your ears glued to the speakers of your sound system, taking the risk of permanent hearing damage for granted. An aggressive, blunt, in your face slab of metal that might best be described as Meshuggah on a doubled dose of steroids, but with an identity all its own.

Arcane Montane - Around The Sun

'Around The Sun' is the second single from the self-tiled debut album by Arcane Montane, scheduled for release on September 26th. It's a scorching mix of seventies hardrock, stoner and NWOBHM displaying great musicianship and a singer with a clean, powerful voice and a little roughness somewhere hidden underneath. Or as the band states on their website: "Arcane Montane deliver the all out power, groove, intensity and presence of Ozzy riding bareback through the desert on a water buffalo." Hop on the beast and enjoy the ride!

Terra Black - In Stone

Terra Black are preparing to unleash their new album 'Mirage' somewhere in the middle of September. 'In Stone' is the first glimpse and starts with a simple, yet effective bass line that immediately sucks you into a somewhat eerie atmosphere. It can be described as slowed-down stoner, bordering on doom, draped with a nice occult-like veil where every ingredient is exactly where it should be. No unnecessary show-offs, but one tight unit moving forward in unison with the sole purpose of giving this fantastic song all the room it needs to breathe, while the intertwining male and female vocals add another layer of mysticism.

Suecide High - Feel the Flames

Suecide High produces infectious, high octane rawk 'n' roll mixed with powerful stoner on 'Feel the Flames'. It's not entirely representative of their upcoming debut 'Chaos Has Its Charm', as it appears to be the heaviest and sleaziest song on the album, but judging by the sample previews of all the other songs, we're in for one hell of a good rocking one come October 9th.

Sun Voyager - Coming Down

Ready for some psychedelic stoner, packed inside a three minute song? Well, in that case you can turn to Sun Voyager to fulfil your appetite. Not for destruction, but for a speed course in astral exploration by way of a scorching hot desert. Start blasting their new single 'Coming Down' and you'll get the drift.

Evil Eye - Under a Sabbath Moon

Back in May 2025 Evil Eye released their debut album 'Wizard War I'. Now they're back with a new single 'Under a Sabbath Moon' that is packed with Sabbathian riffs and lots of fuzzy goodness. If that ain't enough, there's a second song called 'High Atop the Mountain at Dawn (Dreaming of the Sea)' that follows the same recipe without sounding anywhere near the the same as 'Under a Sabbath Moon'. Together they clock in at about 16 minutes. It doesn't matter whether you call it a single b/w or a two track EP, because it's fucking great and a significant step forward from their first full length. Really looking forward to what they'll come up with in the future.

Tomb - Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth

With this release there's no discussion possible about the format. This is an EP. Period. Hailing from Roanoke, VA, Tomb are hovering above you like a swarm of giant deadly wasps - the kind you would encounter in old-fashioned horror movies - ready to confront you with your own mortality. Be it crushing stoner ('Heavy Glow'), bulldozer-style doom ('Frail'), something in between ('Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth') or danceable melodic stoner ('Thunderverb (Cosmic Eye)'), the bullseye is being hit every time with pounding drums, thriving bass and soaring guitars with a mixture of very strong clean vocals and nasty growls that reside somewhere between hardcore, sludge and black metal.

Phoxxxy Grama - The Sneak Attack Sessions

After so much regular stoner, doom and rock, it's time for a little sidestep. Not in power and intensity, but in the kind of music being made. Phoxxxy Grama's sound is basically a combination of melodic noise, alternative rock, grunge and a tiny bit of stoner, packed in first class songs and containing a wildfire of unexpected (and unexpectedly diverse) lead guitar shenanigans. Hope some of you will dig it too.

Witchthroat Serpent - Cursed Night Circle

A couple of days ago Heavy Psych Sounds announced they'll be releasing a new album from contemporary doom legends Witchthroat Serpent on October 9th, titled 'Demons Left to Roam', Along with that announcement opening track 'Cursed Night Circle' was being presented as a preview. After a one minute spoken intro the track unfolds itself as a primary example of traditional doom. Slow to mid-tempo grooves with a slightly haunting quality, exactly the right amount of fuzz, a good vocal delivery and a steady base of bass and drums. In other words: everything you gloom-filled heart needs to lift the spirit even lower. Great stuff.

Molior Superum - Mudslide Mama

Today (Friday July 24th) sees the release of Molior Superum's new single 'Mudslide Mama' which catches these Swedes at the top of their game. Swamp-driven stoner blues with a great hook and a sweet melody that gets your hips moving in no time. The perfect song to close this Quick Fire Friday in style and leave you behind with a sunny smile on your face. It's summer after all. Time to get up and dance.

Travo live on KEXP

Travo live on KEXP

We’ve been blessed with the opportunity to premiere their Turn To The Sun single and we’ve been even more fortunate to have had the pleasure of experiencing this Portogese quartet live! We’re talking about Travo and we still spin their lateste Astromorph God album as much as we possibly can. Cause it’s a wild ride every time again! And it helps us remember that Sonic Whip gig and prepare for the new Sonic Whip Festival, happening on May 16th & 17th. And now… We have the choice to listen to them live and direct, cause they’ve put their live gig from l’Antipode in Rennes, France, during Trans Musicales 2024 up on KEXP! Opening the set with a brand new track called Sleeper, it’s a showcase extraordinaire for what Travo is! And yes, Sleeper is stunning and Sleeper might just hint at a new Travo album soon to come!

PR Wire:

TRAVO live on KEXP

Until now, Travo was Portugal's best-kept secret. But then, what has changed? Well, a series of coincidences, more or less intentional, have led to the prestigious US radio station KEXP dropping on Friday last week the spectacular live session the band recorded a few months ago. Travo is no longer just a rumor among the in-the-know; it's a reality that, with just one click of play, will blow your mind. Don't say we didn't warn you!

We're incredibly excited to share with you that our live session for KEXP is finally here. We had an amazing time and felt right at home. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

WATCH TRAVO LIVE ON KEXP

Hailing from the Portuguese city of Braga nearly a decade ago, the band, formed by Gonçalo Ferreira (guitar, vocals), Gonçalo Carneiro (guitar, synth), David Ferreira (bass) y Nuno Gonçalves (drum), began gaining recognition in the local indie scene with the release of their studio albums 'Ano Luz' in 2019 and 'Sinking Creation' in 2022. However, it wasn't until the release of 'Astromorph God' in 2023 through gig.ROCKS! and Spinda Records that their name began to be mentioned in the editorial offices of international media publications and booking agencies of some of the most respected European festivals when it comes to psychedelia, stoner and progressive rock.

The band was selected to participate in the FOCUS Wales music fair and the Dutch festival Sonic Whip in May 2024. To make this happen, both gig.ROCKS! and La Novena Escena organized an entire European tour around these dates. This would lead them to present their music in countries such as Spain, France, Belgium, Portugal and, of course, the already mentioned Wales and the Netherlands. What was initially going to be a small concert for industry professionals at FOCUS Wales ended up giving them opportunity to perform for, among others, the organizer of the legendary French festival Trans Musicales, who quickly after the show invited them to participate in its next edition in December 2024.

And it was there, within the framework of the French festival, that Travo had the chance to record a live session for the influencial KEXP, which is now available on the Seattle station's YouTube channel.

WATCH TRAVO LIVE ON KEXP

For this special occasion, Travo chose to perform the songs "Faceless Ghoul", "Arrow of Motion" and "Turn to the Sun" from their recent album 'Astromorph God', as well as a new track titled "Sleeper", which will presumably be part of their upcoming studio album. Just for songs are enough for the Portuguese band to make it clear the intensity and fire of their live performances, which come packed with heavy psych, progressive rock and garage attitude, blurring the lines between reality and collective ecstasy.

International Premiere - TRAVO - Turn To The Sun

International Premiere!

TRAVO - Turn To The Sun

We’re honored to bring you the premiere for the new single and video Turn To The Sun by Portuguese foursome TRAVO! In conjunction with Idioteq in Poland;  Irreversivel in Portugal; and RockZone in Spain the Turn To The Sun video is going live everywhere and will be a wild calling card for their new album Astromorph God to arrive November 17 on Spinda Records and gig.Rocks! Go check out that amazing Turn To The Sun video and get electrified and go gaga on the thrashy psychedelic garage metal kraut rocking madness that is TRAVO!

After announcing their participation at Uma Noite Irreversível, Festival NOVO and Monkey Week, the Portuguese band Travo published today, September 22, "Turn to the sun", the first single of their upcoming new album 'Astromorph God'. Heavy psych, progressive rock and tons of garage attitude is what it's about.

It's said that Travo is one of Portugal's best kept secrets and it's looks like it's true. They're young; they've already published two albums and one EP (and a the new one 'Astromorph God' which is on its way); and their live shows a real joy of head-banging, crowd-surfing and mosh pits. In their music you can find a fusion of heavy psych, progressive rock and trash-metal, with a significant garage attitude, without any type of filter. Yes, Europe is about to explode, with bands such as Slift, Maragda, Gator The Alligator, Kamggarn and, of course, Travo. It's clear that on this side of the Atlantic Ocean there are thousands of fans of bands such as King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, Osees, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Elder, Wine Lips and Frankie And The Witch Fingers.

Their new song "Turn to the sun" is now available on main streaming services, and it is the first single of their fourth studio reference 'Astromorph God'. And although this new album by David Ferreira (bass, guitar), Gonçalo Carneiro (guitars, synths, percussion), Nuno Gonçalves (drums, percusssion) y Gonçalo Ferreira (vocals, guitars, percussion, piano) won't see the light until 17 November, it can be pre-ordered now on both compact disc and vinyl editions through Spinda Records and gig.Rocks!, Spanish-Portuguese alliance under which this album will be out.

'Astromorph God' will be available on November 17 on digital, compact disc and on a double edition on vinyl, limited to 150 copies in turquoise color and 150 copies in standard black color, both with gatefold cover.

On October 4 'Astromorph God' Iberian tour kicks off. So far gigs at Uma Noite Irreversível, Festival NOVO and Sevilla Monkey Week have been announced already.
