Stoner HiVe’s
Top 10 Most Listened Artists Last Week…

Jacket Thief
Bismut
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
Acid Throne
Dirty Sound Magnet
Dead Feathers
Saturna
Phe
The Rolling Stones
Rival Sons

Another week in the books. One filled with hectic scrambling to get certain articles done in time. And one filled with a sadness in our bones that we couldn’t attend DesertFest Antwerp this year. But luckily we had so much great music to listen to again! To get us through it all… And hey, Helldorado festival is just around the corner! Plus, whenever Kyle, Reek and even Doktor420 deliver something for the HiVe we always love that week! Did you listen to Bigstrut yet? Or Phe? Or Tumanduumband’s Throne of Grief release? And Doktor420 wrote about his experiences listening to Visite du Temple Inné by Crabe. And since Doktor420 writes something once every two years, this must be something you need to listen to as well! Enjoy the new week! And all that new and heavy music!

Back from the Island…

Back from the Island…

We returned yesterday from a family visit on the British Island… Wish was amazing, even though we had to mess the best line-up of Desert Fest Antwerp ever and Dirty Sound Magnet that played a venue near my home town. But we returned just in time to wish our very own Reek Of STOOM a very happy birthday. But not in time to be able to post that Most Listened To Last Week post we just did, but normally do on Monday. Dominated ofcourse by Maragda and Redscale! Those two album we were so honored to be able to do an International Premiere for. Both albums are stunning and I hope all of your went over to the blog and pressed play and now know that we are not just going overboard with the accolades again but that they really and truly are amazing…

And because Madman Tony Maim suddenly fired up his Black Insect Laughter blog again, we immediately went and checked out the albums he posted about. Like that manic Kowloon Walled City about which he wrote: “Kowloon Walled City have carved out an impressive slab of hardcore/sludge/noise rock that is full of dirty, distorted tunes of disgust, regret and thoughtful anger. Feeling slightly less chaotic than past records, the band are not scared to strip away walls of noise to reveal passages of stark intensity which rely on vocals and picked guitar to set the scene before blasting out a barrage of atmospheric noise and aggression. Great production has melded the instruments into a massive force that sounds unstoppable - if there is any justice in this shitty world, this is a body of work that stands out in an overcrowded genre and which other bands will be measured against.” So go check it out! And check Black Insect Laughter blog out, cause the Madman has scribbled down some other mad ravings about other albums as well!

Dirty Sound Magnet – Heavy Hours

The heavy psychedelic blues rockers Heavy Hours is the second single from their new album arriving in March of 2022. Released on Hummus Records, it’s the Swiss trio Dirty Sound Magnet and their brand new video! Electric psychedelic blues; an acid stomper for a twisted night in your favorite dirty ramshackle bar if ever there was one!

Dirty Sound Magnet – What Lies Beneath

Dirty Sound Magnet – What Lies Beneath
Phénix records / Domino Media – 2012
Rock. Seventies, Classic, Hard, Blues, Stoner
Rated: ***

Influenced by the finest artists of years long passed four-piece Swiss rock entity Dirty Sound Magnet manages to integrate the freshness and power of the music of today. The creativity of DSM calls them to shirk the notion of a ‘label’ or a ‘genre’ for what they do is more than rock; it is from the first note to that very last guitar wail ‘music’. On their 2012 album What Lies Beneath the foursome explores the classic rock scenes that brush up against everything from that seventies genre and the hardrock that was born there but then with a definite modern feel. Solid and melodic rock that can be compared to everything Zeppelin and their latter-day Black Crowes brethren. Hard driving blues-rock with some funky intermissions. A true odyssey of rock that gets better with every song that passes and every riff that flows. And together with a mastered vocalist it definitely pulls you in and keeps you close…
