You don't have to be a genius to guess where the name of this little old blog comes from. It's our undying love for the stoner rock genre and that's were some bands in this Quick Fire Friday shop for inspiration. But we wouldn't be Stoner Hive if we didn't throw in some curveballs. So let's turn up those amps, be surprised and start cracking those riffs.
Plastic Woods - All I Know
'All I Know' is the first appetiser for Plastic Wood's upcoming album 'Mirrors'. It's got one hell of a chugging stoner groove to get you moving, but also a recurring funk melody that gives this song a special touch.
Goblyns - Darlings
On their latest single Berlin-based psychedelic rock outfit Goblyns offers us a nice example of their take on rock and psychedelic music. Swirling around a steady, melodic and addictive bass line, it explores everything from pop and rock to ripping guitar leads.
With Boss Keloid you never know what to expect. Starting out as a full-on sludge combo in their earlier days, they evolved into what they are today: a band that embraces progressive influences to go along with the sludge, while also moving way beyond anything they ever were before. Landslide is a nine and a half minute treasure trove of killing boundaries and exploring new ones at the same time. It's also the first preview of their new album 'Float & Aperture'.
RUT! - Hello F**k You
Couldn't find a Bandcamp link to this song, so we'll present you the full video of RUT!'s single 'Hello F**k You'. It's a fast-paces stoner frenzy with some influences from alternative rock and punk seeping in. These three Italians surely deliver the goods!
On October 13th Ruben Romano (The Freeks, Nebula, Fu Manchu) will release the second instalment of his imaginary soundtrack series. With guest musicians Isaiah Mitchell, The Freeks band members Jonathan Hall and Ray Piller, as well as Rainer Fraenkel (The Miracle Mongers, producer of The Freeks' 'Crazy World'), you can't go wrong and this fantastic tune delivers the exclamation mark behind that statement. This is part psychedelic freak fest, part laid-back desert rock and part high quality spaghetti western that sounds fuckin' great. No other words needed.
ELM - Party Crasher
'Party Crasher' is the opening track of ELM's new album 'The Midnight Zone', their first one in over six years album. As far as I'm concerned everyone should be allowed to crash parties when noise rock rumbles like this. Lots of power and raucous greatness to take the festivities to new heights.
The Streamliner - Parasite
French powerhouse The Streamliner knows how to handle that old-fashioned (in the best sense of the word), heavy, groove-driven stoner rock with some alternative/grunge elements thrown in for good measure. All the proof you need is the title song and first single of their upcoming album, set for release November 13th.
Black Space Riders - Party is Over (The Last Curfew)
Starting off as a relaxed psychedelic tune that slowly gains pace, power and energy, 'Party is Over (The Last Curfew)' is one of the best songs Black Space Riders have produced in years and makes me look forward to 'Die 8', the latest addition to their already impressive catalogue which will also see the light of day on November 13th.
תהום - בצורת
Stoner meets (psychedelic) rock meets middle eastern music is the name of the game on בצורת's (Drought) debut EP תהום (Abyss). With four songs in approximately 14 minutes, this is a short one that makes you eager to hear more of this Israeli band in the future. It's really good with, despite the compactness, lots of little twists and turns. Really, really good.
Kanaan - P1800
To end this ten ton trip we deliver you Kanaan's latest track 'P1800', an all out balls out instrumental heavy stoner psych tune that'll have you flip out in no time.
