FULL ALBUM PREMIERE - Hypnosaur – Afterlife

FULL ALBUM PREMIERE

Hypnosaur – Afterlife

There she blows! The FULL ALBUM PREMIERE for Hypnosaur's Afterlife! Together with the amazing Noise Magazine from Poland we are honored to bring you this wild new album. We wrote about it yesterday; but it has been repeat for a week and ever since... Cause...

Hypnosaur kicks the video store doors off the hinges and floods the room with neon graveyard smoke, satanic disco glitter, and enough hooks to hijack your nervous system for weeks! As we already stated...  Afterlife sounds like a cursed VHS tape of some weird eighties horror flick, discovered behind a liquored-up video store owner sleeping in a dumpster at 3AM, then blasted through a wall of fuzzed-out blown-out amplifiers. Massive choruses, earworm metal, occult swagger, psychedelic detours, punked-up stoner riffs and synths dripping radioactive slime collide in glorious excess. Somewhere between Ghost, Blue Öyster Cult, Abba and a glam gang outrunning the apocalypse, Hypnosaur deliver pure midnight mayhem: ridiculous, hypnotic, strangely heartfelt, and dangerously addictive... Hypnosaur, Hypnosaur, Hypnosaur, can't you see... Those Afterlife songs, just hypnotize me...

The weeks are flying by! And soon we will depart on our three weeks off grid holiday adventure, hugging the border between France and Germany as we go south to Italy, towards the Turin region, and the mountains in the vicinity. But we still have a few days to do a few HiVe posts… Although probably not as many as we did last week! First up: A FULL ALBUM PREMIERE for the Hypnosaur album Afterlife! Coming at you in a few hours!

Last week we posted quite a few words by our inhouse poet: Ronny Dijksterhuis. Did you manage to look at  Stump Grinder? Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell? Gnod? Or his faster than shadow work for the Quick Fire Friday? Which we continued on with a Quick Fire Weekend! (Saturday  & Sunday) Those three Quick Fire posts along will give you twenty-four albums, ep’s and singles to check out! And we upped words on the amazing new Iguana Death Cult and stunning Robot God. And then there were those two Premieres! The monastic doom album by Maliciouz went live on our little blog. And the beautiful new single Adrift by Phe! I hope you listened to those on the blog or on their own pages the day after. Wonderful stuff! O’ and me mentioned the Doom Charts Peroration, cause we were at Sonic Whip Festival went that one went live. Last but not least; we put the words online about the new Hypnosaur album Afterlife… And that beautiful album will see its FULL ALBUM PREMIERE on our little HiVe in only a few hours… You ready for that? And have you been checking all of it out? Hope so… And we are truly honored if you did!

Hypnosaur – Afterlife

Hypnosaur – Afterlife
Self-released – 2026
Rock, Metal, Pop, Stoner,
Rated: ****

Before you can prepare yourself, Afterlife bursts open like the soundtrack to a forbidden eighties horror film, overtures, big choruses and all, discovered in a dusty video store basement and ready to let loose on everything you ever wanted. It’s the new Hypnosaur, dragging you with them, into the Afterlife!

Hypnosaur continues to prove they are one of the most exciting and unpredictable modern rock bands around. Ever since their explosive 2022 album Doomsday, the Warsaw-based quartet has blended the theatrical grandeur of classic eighties rock and metal with infectious hooks, psychedelic textures, stoner rock energy, and a healthy dose of humor. It immediately established the band’s identity with massive choruses, dramatic orchestration, and clear influences from Ghost and thus ABBA and Blue Öyster Cult…

The 2024 four track Undead Invaders Born To Die In A Maze pushed their formula further, embracing darker synths, gothic atmospheres, eighties inspired keyboards and irresistible melodies. Even transforming synth-pop nostalgia into a stonerized dance-rock anthem on “Inwazja z Plutona” … Yes, Hypnosaur kept combining musicianship, theatrical flair, humor, and retro influences into a wildly entertaining and uniquely addictive rock experience.

And now there’s a new full length called Afterlife. On which they move back more towards Doomsday and their Ghost reminiscent sound. But where Ghost takes themselves so seriously you cannot help but laugh, it works the other way around with Hypnosaur. They do not take themselves serious at all, try to have as much fun as possible, and in doing so, you start take them serious and even hear the message that they sneak in here and there…

Afterlife feels like the moment Hypnosaur fully embraces everything that made their earlier work so exciting in the first place. Ever since the towering hooks and theatrical swagger of Doomsday first introduced listeners to their strange and irresistible world, the Warsaw quartet has balanced stoner rock grit, eighties glam excess, gothic atmosphere and infectious melody with remarkable ease. But on Afterlife, those elements are sharper, darker, catchier and so much more confident than ever before.

Just listen to incredibly catchy opener and title track Afterlife and then hear it transition into the fireball that is Lieflower. The slow build that happens, and continues with Reality-141 and Look At The Balls. Which continues the highly melodic rock 'n roll structure, ups the dynamic, antsiness and power with every track that passes and gets you all ready for the two minute long DMT ride that is Danger. The most metal and punk track on the album perhaps.

Sure, the shadow of Ghost once again looms, but proudly, over the record, especially in the massive choruses, eerie keyboard arrangements and dramatic vocal delivery, yet Hypnosaur never sounds like imitation. Instead, they channel the same love for seventies and eighties hard rock, AOR and occult theatricality into something unmistakably their own. Every track feels built for maximum impact: gigantic refrains, shimmering guitar flourishes, pounding drums and haunting synths collide in a kaleidoscopic storm of melody and darkness. But darkness on the light side of town...

Hardwired for instance scales back on energy, but not on intensity, and implores some of that hallowed sound to make it sound huge and again sporting that incredibly earwurm quality. Humming this everywhere you go is not just an option, it's a given. Longest track on the record, Alone, once again opts for an eighties atmopshere, with its synth work, but goes more nineties once the bass gets to do its thing and then as we near the halfway mark, we are suddenly treated to more grunted and growled vocals. Another side of the Hypnosaur!

What makes Afterlife work so well is how effortlessly Hypnosaur balances all that fun and those eighties atmospheres. The album is energetic, stylish and playful, but underneath the hooks lurks something genuinely hypnotic. It is retro rock worship transformed into a vibrant, modern and wildly addictive experience. One moment the band sounds like a glam metal gang speeding through neon-lit streets at midnight, the next they become psychedelic storytellers conjuring dark dreams beneath disco lights and almost operatic thunderclouds. Hypnosaur proves once again, they can do it all!

And we’re honored, to announce, that we’ll do the FULL ALBUM PREMIERE for Hypnosaur’s Afterlife together with the Polish Noise Magazine this Monday! So, check in, tomorrow, on May 25th to hear Afterlife a day early!

The week has flown by! Rent paying work, life, you know the deal, it all got in the way of the good stuff again… So, we weren’t able to do as much as we have hoped. Also, because Friday was taken up by all those Doom Charts Freebies. Did you grab any? Found your new favorite album? Hope so, if not, check the ones above… Or check out Sonic Wolves’s III album, we were honored to deliver the premiere for that wild rocker. But besides all that Sonic Wolves stuff, we were only able to write a few words about Full Earth’s Cloud Sculptures. Which is big in every sense of the word! And yes, because of an interview, the new Fischer-Z album Triptych was on heavy rotation. The old new wave punk, has gone full troubadour. Here’s hoping we have time to do more this week. Enjoy yours!

G'mornin! A new week has started! And we get to do another Full Album Premiere this Thursday! So, better check in this Thursday right?! Did you check out that Sons Of Morpheus album Fruits? I hope you did. Cause it’s a diesel blues rocking stoner gem and you can read more ab out it HERE. That Sixteentimes Music label has some damn fine releases every year. You might want to check out the entire catalogue in fact, it’s bordering on the insane, the amount of quality there. We also did a Single Premiere for Elk Witch, Ghost Of The Lupatia has a beautiful video and musically it heralds the coming of that amazing Azimuth album out April 12 on Majestic Mountain Records. We talked about the new Chelsea Wolfe and Dekonstruktor and did a Quick Fire Friday session besides getting the February Peroration Post up for the Doom Charts. And just yesterday, on Sunday we talked about that crazy eighties loving Hypnosaur release. I know we could and should do better, but on average, I’d say, not a bad week all in all. Let’s hope we can do at least as much in the upcoming week. Check out those posts from last week if you haven't and check out those amazing albums we listened to the most last week!Enjoy!

Hypnosaur – Undead Invaders Born To Die In A Maze

Hypnosaur – Undead Invaders Born To Die In A Maze
Self-released – 2024
Rock, Metal, Pop, Glam, Seventies
Rated: ****

According to all leading paleontologists, dinosaurs went extinct some 65 million years ago after living on earth for 165 million years, give or take a few days. But after listening to the new four-track release called Undead Invaders Born To Die In A Maze you can safely assume that there was at least one still alive in the eighties and still very much alive today! It’s the Hypnosaur! And we’ve been following that telekinetic wonder lizard ever since hearing its damn amazing Doomsday album back in 2023. The sound of that record which implored a lot of Ghost touches, glam metal and other wonderful eighties influences is still present on the new release Undead Invaders Born To Die In A Maze. This time however we hear it on opening track Undead to some extent, which uses chilling guttural crocodile vocals to get its message across. Turning into operatic sequence here and there and becoming highly catchy and poppy during the refrains and whenever they are building towards them. It is also very very very present on third track Born To Die, with its Dracula toned keywork, and a vocalist that stretches every part of his range and ability. Hooks a plenty and lovely guitarwork, and all of that is secondary to that majestic keyboard sound. Haunting, yet o’ so lovely and very hypnotic! Every song title is part of the four track EP Title, for the translation for Inwazja z Plutona is Invaders From Pluto. That’s right, second track, first single and cover from the band Kombi, Inwazja z Plutona, is the Invaders part of the title and was mentioned on the HiVe back in December and misses that Ghost touch but substitutes that for some delicious stonerized eighties synth-pop. A voice eerily resembling the original vocalist and an infectious rhythm will have you searching for your dancing shoes in no time. But before you get your groove on, it’s time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I am all out of gum. The Maze ends this EP with a few momentary vocal touchstones that remind of something more eighties postpunk related before going forth with the eighties metal schematics. Musically so light-footed, lyrically so dark. Musically energetic and uplifting, as much as the classic rock from yore, with all instruments in service of the vocals, which translate so much of those dark lyrics into a rainbow colored labyrinth. And those drums, wicked! O’ and don’t be afraid to check out their videos on YouTube, ranging from amazing to hilarious, to boldly showing off their musical ability, and their stunning good looks, the Hypnosaur four know how to work the camera! And specially check out The Maze! Shot in honor of all those great classic Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem and Doom games… Mein leben! Indeed, the Hypnosaur has humor, got style, a lot of eighties love and the ability to turn it all into a kaleidoscopic catchy rock diamond!

Stoner HiVe's Quick Fire Weekend

Stoner HiVe's Quick Fire Weekend

As you know, sometimes, we need to keep that fire burning! The lava flowing! And dance upon the ashes of all who do not understand what Heavy Music means to us addicts. So, this here, is the start of another Quick Fire Weekend! Meant to spread the word on all that good stuff out there! And we know… There is so much out there, so much good and heavy stuff, and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. But here it is… Another Saturday edition of a Stoner HiVe Quick Weekend! And it burns hot like molten lava!

The Bad Electric - Happy Endings Are Overrated

Out since yesterday, Happy Endings Are Overrated by Swansea, UK foursome The Bad Electric. They call it robo punk and sends shockwaves of super sparkling synth work towards you, coasting on an energetic layer of dirty riffs and intense drums. And after hearing these five tracks, we reckon The Bad Electric, should go on tour with the Electric Six and merge some nights, when the moon is full and the crowd extremely wild, into the The Bad Electric Six. Why not? It could happen!

The Magic Bus – Yarem Yarem

Yesterday we mentioned Beyond The Earth, but there's another project from many of the same members called The Magic Bus. My Greek is still limited to saying thank you, greeting a good day and ordering drinks. O’ and asking for the bill, but why on earth did I ever learn that? But for The Magic Bus you would want to learn more. Yarem, Yarem, is a poem set to music, and part of every poem’s charm is that it’s open to many interpretations! In the band’s mind it is an ode to the fragile but beautiful essence of love through time and hardship. Well, I guess I need to learn more Greek. It seems like a good idea to do this. It seems like a very good idea.

Sun Q – Myth

You will immediately be sucked into the Sun Q universe with that bluesy album opener Jane Doe. Heading straight for the heart of Myth, a nine track collaborative album by musicians and specialists from various countries. Recorded in Russia, in different studios in search of rare Soviet synthesizers, vintage tape instruments, and anything that could enhance the sound. A diverse array of musicians contributed to the recording, enriching the songs with vibrant strings and brass sections, not to mention unique instruments from all over the world, like Swedish nyckelharpa and African percussion. They even got three different choirs from Russia, USA, and Uganda. If that is not enough to make you check out Myth, here’s one more to get you on board: it might be all over the place, but there’s magic everywhere, and in short: it’s awesome!

Pharm – The Tower

Vortex was on heavy rotation about a year ago, and the new three track EP The Tower has followed suit the past month. It’s the new Pharm three track, EP, filled with hyper prog,  manic, funky and possibly insane. And that’s not just because it opens with a title called: Infinite Stairway to Madness. Frantic and break neck break back breaks. It’s Pharm and you simply need a dose of this from time to time to get your head working in the right order again!

WIJ – Oko

Out December 15th on Piranha Music, the new WIJ album Przestwór. And Oko is the first single for this. There are moments when you think this is how Go A should sound, but then you immediately think, no, this is how they could never sound, cause WIJ is way more special. It’s a track you need to put on repeat and listen to the entire night, while typing away frantically at some stream of consciousness poetry about a dystopian society in the future where you are continuously watched by a hovering eye behind you… Or that might just be me?

Hypnosaur - Inwazja z Plutona

Out since December 5, the cover version of Kombi’s Inwazja z Plutona by Hypnosaur! Remember that awesome Doomsday album from 2022? Already highly eclectic, this one cover shows us once again that Hypnosaur can do whatever that beast wants! Stonerizing some synth-pop track from the eighties? Sure, Hypnosaur doesn’t even break a sweat! And that video! Haha, awesome!

Polyfrenetics – DecayDecayDecay

“Polyfrenetics is a three headed troll out of Oslo, Norway who thinks intergalactic sack rock is the best invention since canned beer.” And they’re right of course! And they’ve released their third EP DecayDecayDecay back in October. Six songs about Decay and… err… Love… Or something... Psychedelic punk, stoner prog, it moves in circles, add some space rock and a lot of canned beer, and you know that this third EP by Polyfrenetics is another one of those heavy rock treasures that needs to be discovered by one and all!

Throe - O Enterro das Marés

Throe is first and foremost the experimental, ambient, post rock and metal project by multi-instrumentalist Vina. Also a member of Sao Paolo instrumental rock band Huey, the Brazilian explores limits and endings in this ode to finitude called O Enterro das Marés. In this almost thirty-minute-long exploration we get treated to a white-out level of ambient and post rocking beauty, as well as industrial and noisy blackening. Limits are tested, implosion possible, by depths and ranges…

Hypnosaur – Doomsday

Hypnosaur – Doomsday
Revenge Of The Bat Records – 2022
Rock, Stoner, Punk, Seventies, Nineties
Rated: ****

I love being completely surprised by a band and an album when you put the needle on the vinyl for the very first spin. And we were thoroughly startled by our first moments of the Doomsday record. We had not expected Hypnosaur to come bursting out of the gates like a Ghost inspired, you know, imploring as much Abba as Blue Oyster Cult influences into your heavy music as possible, kind of band. But title track Doomsday is just that, grand gestures, giant orchestration, and gigantic hooks. Infusing that early Ghost sound, with what Ghost turned to themselves as well lately, namely the very best eighties rock and metal had to offer. And then those little guitar fills and drum parts, flourishes with all the bells (even literally) and whistles. What an opening track! Founded in Warsaw around 2017, Hypnosaur is made up out of four highly accomplished musicians, so it seems, especially since they then follow the opening track with this fast driving, high energy, stonerrock and nineties alternative track called The Hole. Showing these two sides of Hypnosaur this fast, opens up the entire record for even more poppy punk songs like On The Run (Bang Bang) or catchy radio friendly, highly melodic rock in Desert Tornado and something slow and psychedelic called Follow / Shadow. Heart of Stone seems inspired by the roads The Cult or Velvet Revolver might choose for a song. Final tenth track Huisuke is an instrumental, danceable, keys driven rock track that once again showcases the variety these four cats can excel at. But after learning they already earned their rock spurs with bands like Jane Doe, Saint Hex, Toxxxik Flash and The Assblasters it becomes obvious that the Hypnosaur four will have no trouble pulling off whatever rock route they choose. One does come to the conclusion after having the Doomsday album on repeat for a week or two, that those tracks that remind you of that Ghost sound, do sound best. And therefore, title track Doomsday and They Come Out At Night will definitely be our favorites. But ever so often you need some filthy, fast paced rock, and then you can turn to Godfucker and speed your car towards the horizon… On our way to some future Doomsday!
