Stoner HiVe's Top 5 Artists listened to last week

Stoner HiVe's
Top 5 Artists listened to last week:

We shall publish a mention about the magnificent new Automatic Sam album in a moment or two. These Dutch freaks have been releasing amazing albums one after another, topping the one that came before. And with the new record Arcs, they did it again! Psychedelic garage and steamy blues, raw, tantalizing and catchy. It is all there on the Assorted album by The Ringo Jets. Which is only logical as the album has collected some of the great Ringo loudness of all their previous releases and added two unreleased tracks. Check’m out! Seeing Dave Catching and Pete Stahl live in Amsterdam definitely made my week. Hope the rest of Europe came out to catch them live as well. For whether the Earthlings? fill the stage with eight or only two, they always rock! The new Nemesis album by the Swiss Sons of Morpheus is filled to the brim with more psychedelic blues, stoner and masterful grooves. Grungy and gritty yet all so soulful! Which is always the case when a new Colour Haze arrives. In Her Garden as the album is titled gives you almost 75 minutes of pure unadulterated bliss. So… Headphones on and stroll through Her Garden

Earthlings? – Human Beans

Earthlings? – Human Beans
Man’s Ruin – 2001
Rock, Ambient, Psychedelic, Desert
Waardering: ****

In the category you ask, we play we are about to fulfill a request from a lovely little curly head from Budapest. She asked about the Human Beans record by Earthlings?. You know, the group from Palm Desert who manifested itself for the first time in 1994. Dave Catching, Fred Drake, Pete Stahl, Franz Stahl, Chris Bratton, Kirby Brownell, Josh Homme, Mark Lanegan, Dave Grohl, Barrett Martin, Victoria Williams, Petra Harden, Ted Quinn, Dave Royer, Al Bloch, Hank Kimball, Dally The D, Hutch, Jason Cohen, Abby Travis, John Dee Graham, Billy Bizeau, Barry Conley, Spot, Mary(19) and DNA(25), whoever those last two might be, lend their crafts for this album. O’ and then their is help from Robert Alexander (The guy from Come Wander With Me) as a sample in the song Lifeboat. So a very colorful selection of free spirits who gave their all on a few empty tapes. As a genuine Desert Sessions record the album was recorded over a period of a few years and during several long lasting sessions at the Rancho De La Luna. Released in five different versions but all with the warning that these subsonic frequencies have, in some cases, caused euphoria and hallucinations in listeners, the album is almost impossible to describe. It’s mysterious, heroic and full of glamour. It’s estranging, astonishing, stunning, stirring and completely deranged. A beautiful record to float to and experiment. Let the creative juices flow… Let it flow…

Earthlings? – Earthlings?

Earthlings? – Earthlings?
Man’s Ruin / Crippled Dick HotWax – 1998
Rock, Space, Psychedelic, Electric, Ambient
Waardering: ****

Everyone will surely be familiar with Earthlings? but I still felt that something had to be said about this band. For it is the first official group both Dave Catching and Fred Drake were a part of. It also features Pete Stahl who we all know from bands like Wool, Scream, Orquesta Del Desierto and Goatsnake. And on this first record Dave Grohl, Scott Reeder, Victoria Williams, Matina Topley-Bird, Adam Maples, Robert Butler, Tony Mason, Kat, Billy Bizeau, Dave Linn and Esther Swart also join in. Esther Swart provides the second Dutch connection to the Rancho De La Luna. For she is responsible for the Dutch murmur on the song The Dreaded Lovelies. The first one will be addressed in a different post. Earthlings? is also the first release that celebrated all the ‘faulty’ broken equipment lounging around in the Rancho. The result is an ambient mood album that washes over you like a spring tide. That full moon sound that cleanses, makes you float and produces synergism with all around...
