Rest In Peace – Steffen Weigand

Rest In Peace – Steffen Weigand

We are blessed to have seen the honorable Mr. Weigand in action many times. His mighty groove for My Sleeping Karma propelled all of their songs into the realm of transcendental meditation. The heavy rock kind of meditation. The way he incorporated that progressive side of his into this ever fluid and velvet flow, made the sound sprout entire forests of heavy happiness in one’s mind. I will start at the beginning today, when those first seeds for their very own style of inspired woodlands were sown by listening to Vapor Trail’s Abyssal Plain demo from 2005 first and taking the ride all the way to the amazing My Sleeping Karma album Atma from 2022. And I am sure there will be tears… The energy he spread on, and off stage was that of white light karma, good, honest, and happy. Listening to Moksha will therefore be as difficult as it will be fulfilling. As will, their final one… My thoughts and prayers go out to all his loved ones, his family, his brothers from My Sleeping Karma and all the heavy rock fans around the world that loved his music…

Here's to you Steffen Weigand, thank you for all those majestic experiences and all your amazing music…

Stoner HiVe's Top 5 Artists listened to last week

Stoner HiVe's
Top 5 Artists listened to last week:

Kreator (26)
Carnaval (23)

Another week has passed. And as preparation for a whole heap of interviews we've been listening to the first three bands. Meeting up with Al Barr last week when the Dropkick Murphys played Amsterdam. Talking to vocalist Stefan Kollee of the Dutch outfit The Naked Sweat Drips yesterday about their debut full-sized album Psycho Sister and speaking with Kreator on thursday. My Sleeping Karma released an amazing new live album called Mela Ananda, available soon via Napalm Records. And the incredible Miss Universe by Carnaval keeps spinning around here! She must be getting dizzy!

Heavy at work and working the heavy!

Number 17

Number 17

“Whenever there is decay of righteousness… and there is exaltation of unrighteousness, then I, Myself come forth… for the destruction of evil-doers for the sake of firmly establishing righteousness. I am born from age to age.” Bhagavad Gita, fourth discourse

These guys turned out to be one of the best bands on Speedfest this year. Something I had not expected given the nature of the festival and the concrete industrial halls, which could be too big for such a band and distort their sound. And given the hour of the day and the long lines outside there were unfortunately only a handful of devotees to witness their tight spaced out show. It was their last evening of the tour with Monster Magnet and it was clear for the ones that were there that the guys had learned a lot. The played their set amazingly firm and strong and visited their 2012-released fourth album. Like true nectar of gods their sounds weave and float through your mind and expand it in true psychedelic fashion. So drink up and let the hardy taste transport you to another world…
