Video / Single Premiere – Black Charger – Walk With Me

Video / Single Premiere

Black Charger – Walk With Me

We’re honored to premiere for you today the newest single and video Walk With Me for the upcoming Black Charger album Small Town. The album will be out on October 31st through Clostridium Records and Broken Music and will ruin every needle of every vinyl player of every stonerrock afficionado around the world! For this is… Stonerrock!

“The primordial kind. The one that was born when the Kyuss punks decided to start doing their own thing. And there isn’t any doubt in my mind that you, reading these words, love Kyuss and that the boys from Black Charger love Kyuss and that you can hear everything you love and they love about Kyuss in the sound of these new punks that started jamming under the name Black Charger. Yes! This is the sandblasted, scorched, stonerrock straight out of the desert variety.”

That’s how the review started which we wrote back in August (review here) and ever since then we’ve fallen even deeper in love with Small Town, cause as you know, we love stonerrock! The primordial kind!

Go check out Walk With Me! All the other singles on Bandcamp and get ready for Small Town!

Here’s Black Charger with… Walk With Me…

PR Wire:

Black Charger stand for uncompromising stoner rock with clear roots in the 1990s - influenced by genre greats such as Kyuss, Fu Manchu and Brant Bjork. The trio from Osnabrück - consisting of Christian (guitar, vocals), Stephan (bass) and Uli (drums) - combines powerful guitar riffs with distinctive grooves and a high dynamic. Their sound is immediate, earthy and energetic, driven by a deep understanding of the genre and a clear focus on authenticity. Known for their intense live presence, the band plays up to 20 shows a year and has shared the stage with international acts such as 1000mods, Wucan and Motorowl. Four digitally released singles mark the band's catalog to date, which is now being consistently continued with their debut album.

With “Small Town”, Black Charger present their first complete studio album. It brings together ten songs that reflect the band's range both musically and thematically: from personal recollections of growing up in the small town of Bramsche to reflections on power structures, existential pressure and the myth of the origins of stoner rock in the Californian desert. The album was produced together with Role at Tonmeisterei Oldenburg, whose reputation for authentic, analog sound aesthetics fits perfectly with the raw and direct sound of Black Charger. “Small Town” will be released as a limited vinyl edition (300 copies): 200 copies on safari brown/orange marbled vinyl, 100 copies on classic black vinyl.

Black Charger - Small Town Review

Black Charger – Small Town

Black Charger – Small Town
Clostridium Records / Broken Music – 2025
Stonerrock
Rated: ****

This is stonerrock. The primordial kind. Yes! This is the sandblasted, scorched, stonerrock straight out of the desert variety. But Black Charger hails from Osnabruck, Germany and the three are about to release their first album Small Town through Clostridium Records. After having jammed together since 2018 and releasing a succession of some five singles since 2024, they will issue that first full-sized ten track, forty one minute long trek through the sundried landscape on October 31st. Followed by a vinyl version a day later….

Well.. Low slung guitars produce even lower tones, and the Black Charger axe-slingers must have them down on their ankles. Just like the Kyuss godfathers used to do. And not sure how vocalist Christian Bögelmann does this, but the vocals have both Bjork and Garcia moments in them and that adds an extra twist in making this one hell of an album for the lovers of pure stonerrock. Lyrics wise, there might be something to gain here and there; but the low end is so beautiful! And as Gimme A Run rumbles over you, the starting vocals ascending, the repeated refrain building, the universal nod becoming truly universe spanning, you cannot help but fall in love with Black Charger. It’s one of the singles already released back in 2024. And it’s not until the sixth track Walk With Me we are treated to a new ditty, more expansive, explosive and implosive at the same time, firing on all cylinders and as furious as a mile wide exhaust pipe. And a drummer that stays cool, keeps time, pace and goes on relentlessly, with a leering grin, but steady as she goes, while both bass and guitar go absolutely berserk in reverb layering on top of reverb. What a wonderful song. Super Ego, shoots out of the gate, got a minor skater and punk vibe going on, and that’s perfect, cause we’re all desert punks here. Bass, how low can you go? Well, judging from the opening in Welcome, lower than a freaking earthquake! Snakedance sounds loose and yet incredibly tight, weaving in an out of control, like a Cobra waiting to strike. Another extraordinarily infectious song. You wanna dance to this! And they end their first romp through the desert landscape with the slower Red Picture With Horses. Cause well, you have to have a song about Horses nowadays. A touch of sliding psychedelics enters the scene, impenetrable grainy, lifted by a wistful guitar melody, majestic bass work and beautiful drums. This is stonerrock. The primordial kind. Atavistic by default, but not born out of nostalgia, but born out of the pure love for the stonerrock genre…

The Elven – Solstice

The Elven – Solstice
Spinda Records / Clostridium Records / Echodelick Records – 2025
Rock, Hardrock, Classic, Psych, Roots, Seventies
Rated: *****

Radiating warmth and blissful harmony, the brand new outfit The Elven have released the perfect spring and summer time album with Solstice. Heralding the coming of a new season, a new sound, steeped in love, freedom and the music of yesteryear. With grace and poise they dip their toes in as much of the classic stuff as they can handle, never shying away from using seventies, roots, blues and psych to touch up their hardrock. Ever since the first single Shine was released The Elven has been on heavy rotation over here. And whenever the sun blessed me with its rays, The Elven would be spun first, as we gazed skywards and thanked the energy bestowed upon me. And if you haven’t yet gotten acquainted with this new project through the first single Shine or their second single Closer To Freedom, let us jot down once more who The Elven are. Born during those weird pandemic times, the project is comprised out of bassist Rod Tirado and guitarist/vocalist James Vieco of Saturna fame. Who managed to rope in their friend Isaiah Mitchell from Earthless to lay down his guitar prowess. And with added keyboardist Tabatha Puig from The Capaces and drummer Javi Gómez from Patente De Corso, they managed to get together and write for one whole month. The result of which are the eight songs on the Solstice album...

Which starts out  with that brilliant Shine track. Not just a single, but a prayer and so soulful, that it will immediately warm every fiber of your being. And those vocals, James Vieco sounds completely in synch with this track, the composition and its meaning, delivering it so pure, honest and with touch of gruff that runs straight from his heart to yours. Far Beyond is that classic seventies stroll, that riverside walk that stops at the pier and has you gaze off into the distance, determined to beat on, boats against the current. Followed by Closer To Freedom, slowing you even more down, to a stop, to an inhale that will fill you with nothing but energy as you let go of all those desperate thoughts, the memories of those ten thousands mistakes, and embrace forgiveness. Translated so beautiful by the vocals and the guitar lines that brush ever so lovely beneath the voice. With New Pair Of Wings, we come to the most current, even pop sensible, track of the album. Light as a feather, its meandering build will surely lift you up and send you off as high as you can possibly be, the flight punctuated by a lovely guitar solo, which stops as the track gets a minutely wilder sequence, until break down. Stand Right Next To Me, with a jazzy touch, courtesy of a saxophone brought to you by Juan Lichter and a guitar that riffs off the sax and the percussion that keeps this comfortable and confident bop and swing going. The longest track on the album, sits so snugly in the middle of the album, it will make you long to dance tightly together with all those stranger you might meet at a roof top party somewhere on a warm and sweltering night. Out The Door, with lovely key work, gives of most of the Black Crowes boogie and the Southern touch they usually bring to the table. But this table is set for you to dance upon, arms constantly in the air and shuffling those like crazy. Slower, gruff crooner, Wherever I Go follows, is that soulful early seventies rock once again, although the guitar tone of the solo also has a bit of middle nineties, but as the keys meander throughout the composition, and the guitar shambles across, the overall atmosphere is that of vintage love once again. Final track All Of A Sudden feels like that peaceful glade in the middle of the forest, filled with flowers and a sun that will always break through the clouds at the perfect moment. It is the instrumental outro, which lets both guitar and piano become that sunray once again, filling you with warmth and understanding. Preparing you for a new time, a new season and a chance to do whatever you need to do. Like a first day of spring can do…

The Elven – Closer To Freedom

The Elven – Closer To Freedom

It does give off that atmosphere, a spring sun and a form of freedom many of us long for. It’s the new, second single, by that brand new outfit The Elven. The project made up out of members from Saturna and Earthless and who will be releasing their debut album through Spinda Records (ES), in a new collaboration with Clostridium Records (DE) and Echodelick Records (US) on April 3rd. A beautiful song called Closer To Freedom will stop you in your tracks, will make you face the sun and breathe…

PR Wire:

The Elven drop "Closer to freedom" as their second single...

It's been already a month since The Elven presented themselves to the world with their first-ever single "Shine". But now it's time for "Closer to freedom", the second and last track that they will reveal before April 3, 2025, the date when their debut album 'Solstice' will be released through Spinda Records.

What began at the end of 2020 as an irrational need to compose music by Rod Tirado and James Vieco from Saturna soon took on a different identity when they brought in their friends Isaiah Mitchell (Earthless) on lead guitar, Tabatha Puig on keyboards, and Javi Gómez on drums. In just one month, they wrote the 8 songs that make up this debut album, titled 'Solstice', which they recorded with all the freshness and spontaneity of the moment at the Analog Drive-in Studios, alongside Christian A. Korn at the controls and Dani Pernas as co-producer. Pernas would later handle the mixing before passing the project on to Estanis Elorza for mastering.

Solstice

1. Shine
2. Far beyond
3. Closer to freedom
4. New pair of wings
5. Stand right next to me
6. Out the door
7. Wherever I go
8. All of a sudden

For the graphic design, they once again enlisted an illustration by Jondix (Tool, Black Sabbath, High on Fire, Electric Wizard) and the design by Jalón de Aquiles for a vinyl edition that will be released by Spinda Records (ES), in a new collaboration with Clostridium Records (DE) and Echodelick Records (US), who previously worked together on the debut album by Loma Baja.

'Solstice' will be available on April 3, 2025, and will be released exclusively in digital format and on vinyl; in a limited edition of 300 copies in marbled yellow, which can already be pre-ordered at spindarecords.com.

The Elven – Shine

That time machine thing right?! Cause the debut album Solstice by the new The Elven quintet will be released on April 3rd! It will be out through Spinda Records (ES), in a new collaboration with Clostridium Records (DE) and Echodelick Records (US). And today, we’re treated to the sunbeam, the first single, a beautiful ray of light called Shine. And if you had not heard about The Elven yet, well, this project is made up out of members of Saturna and Earthless! A warm and loving embrace made up from classic hard rock and seventies psych. Stunning!

Cosmic Fall – Back Where The Fire Flows

Cosmic Fall – Back Where The Fire Flows
Clostridium Records / Self released – 2024
Rock, Space, Psych, Stoner, Kraut
Rated: *****

Have you ever just sat there, on a ledge or rock, in the middle of nature and watched the moon rise. And as it rose, did you ever feel like it picked out your little location like a spotlight? Well, the fourth track Chant Of The Lizards felt like exactly that for me. The leisurely flow, meandering like a brook, the nature sounds, the chimes, the blue hue of the guitar, it all seemed perfectly in synch with everything around me and it made me feel at home, connected and made me fall in love hard. Fall in love with Cosmic Fall all over again. Cause we were there back in 2016 for their First Fall release and even more when their 2018 In Search For Outer Space came out. But we kind of missed the intermediate Kick Out The Jams release (still set to private on bandcamp), Jams For Free and their Lackland single. Which was the last release from Cosmic Fall all the way back in 2019. But now the boys are back… Back Where The Fire Flows has five tracks that move confidently through the psychedelic and space rock genres, opting for a bit of stoner rock on occasion and some more krautrock approaches when needed. And the space, it’s soaring, but also very natural. Naturistic even, almost every composition feels like an ode to some natural force or geological beauty. Opening track entitled Lucid Skies Above Mars feels like the hot steamy vapors above some island born volcano, shimmering and rising, floating and gliding. And you glide along as the guitar takes you higher. Propelled by the drums to ascend and see it all. Picking up speed towards the end and perfectly transitioning into second track Magma Rising. With only four and half minutes, a short song for the Cosmic Fall three, that sees the magma rise instantaneously and flowing out in all directions. Highly direct, yet so groovy and steaming, with lovely bass work underpinning that wild drumming and ever freakier guitar sound. Another short one follows, Under The Influence Of Gravity, grooves hard, has a funkier touch and will have you smiling from ear to ear. A highly jam like middle section in combination with the laughter at the end will turn that smile even wider and will leave the impression that most or all of this was recorded in one majestic take. Whatever the case, you’ve just experienced three wonderful propelling tracks that will have made you dance, air drum and absolutely giddy with glee. Chant Of The Lizards follows and we already told you what it does to us, now go listen to all of it yourself and prepare for the powerful kraut rocking final track Drive The Kraut.Cosmic Fall is back! And on fire!

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Weekend

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Weekend

It’s happening! The very first Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Weekend of 2023! In fact it’s only the fourth time we are doing this Quick Fire thing for an entire weekend. Trying to get the word out on all that good and heavy stuff that’s been out there. The first Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Friday segment was done somewhere in 2014 and was started as a vehicle to get some quick words out about a handful of bands and only a small amount of words to help spread their musical prowess… Cause we realize there’s just so much out there! There is no way we can mention it all or even a small percentage of all that heavy stuff we all love. Well, this way, we hope to spread just a tiny bit more…  And we know… There is so much out there, so much good and heavy stuff, and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. So here it is. The first Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Weekend of 2023! And it burns hot like molten lava!

Fuzz Voyage – Heavy Compass Demo

'Dar on guitar, Jeremy on bass and Ben on drums.' It’s Fuzz Voyage and their Heavy Compass four track demo. Twenty minutes of instrumental stoner and doom rock, brought to you with definite punk, surf and skater touches. Those choppy drums, attacking the skins with feverous energy during opening track South Side Moss for instance, how rad! And those shifts, from completely fuzzed out doom, to those fast paced, punk rocking freak outs, majestic! This trio got style! And lots of it!

Sunbeam Overdrive – Crimson Stains

Soon, on Tentacle Industries, the release of the new album by French quartet Sunbeam Overdrive. It’s called Diama and Crimson Stains is the new single to entice you for the rest of the album soon to come. Scream, djent, progressive, alternative metal and all sorts of core elements come at you from all sides. Circling around you like a riff tornado, this single is but one of the many tracks that hurl you through space and time, and the storm both inside and out of you. It fits perfectly with the concept that seems to be surrounding the album…

Redshift – Entropy

It’s the lead single and cool video for their new Laws Of Entropy album, which will be released on April 28th through the awesome Pale Wizard Records. We’re talking about Entropy by Redshift. Quirky? Prog metal fun? Jazz infused weird metal? There’s a lot of crazy stuff going on, that sort of feels like they threw some old school video games into a blender, poured all sorts of prog, metal, jazz and funk over it, shaked the shit out of it and put some eighties sounding ice cubes into it. A twisty straw and start guzzling! But since well, Entropy is a song about the absurdity and the anxiety of an existential crisis. It completely fits!

Kilmore – From The Inside

Heavy riff rock straight out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It’s Kilmore and their six track From The Inside EP. Hard rock, classic rock, stoner rock, alternative rock, grunge and even some metal and prog, there’s a lot going on during these six tracks. The amazing vocals by Heather Harris are the one constant factor as the six tracks shift color and dive into whatever aspect the band felt was right for the song. Another constant is the fact that they manage to pull everything off; and what it might lack in catchy kicks, it makes up for in melody, tone and emotional charge… Tenfold.

Blindfolded & Led to the Woods - Hallucinative Terror

Their Rejecting Obliteration album will be premiering on Prosthetic Records May 19th! Its avant-garde progressive death metal band Blindfolded & Led to the Woods and this is their lead single Hallucinative Terror. Extreme in delivery and blasting away tension, the dynamics are off the scale intense and nerve wrecking. If wasn’t for that final moment of reverie, you would surely be having daytime nightmares…

Dead Earth – Fear No One

They’ve delivered their first full-sized album back in 2019 called Truth Hammer, followed that up with a four track EP entitled All Hail The Dark and are about to come back swinging sledgehammers and chainsaws, with three tracks on an EP called Fear No One. It’s Cleveland, Ohio’s Dead Earth. The now five piece brings you metal, with overtones of thrash, some speed and a classic heavy metal touch that sees their melodic antennas peeking and the guitar work shine with pure excellence. Brutal, aggressive and very savory!

Shem – III

The natural follow-up to II, it’s Shem’s III. Out on Clostridium Records since April 1st, Shem is back with another highly atmospheric kraut rocking adventure. This time it takes on a very tribalistic, ritualistic, shamanistic identity. The slow but determined movement in opening track Paragate will induce a trance before the five minute mark is up; and then you still have eleven more minutes to go. The journey will take some of you inwards and others out towards the edges of the universe, or part of the infinite multiverse. And the funny thing is, part of the infinite multiverse is still infinite. And so are the dreams you might have while listening to Shem’s III. Turn on, tune in, and go places…

The Heavy Crawls – Searching For The Sun

The Heavy Crawls – Searching For The Sun
Clostridium Records / Electric Experience Records - 2022
Psychedelic Rock
Rated: ****

Ukrainian psychonauts The Heavy Crawls bring their new album to the masses: "Searching For The Sun" (their fourth album) brings the swagger of hard 60s/70s Rock and marries it to a modern, upbeat sound that is both engaging and unique. Nine tracks that run the gauntlet of Psych, from the brash heaviness of "Evil Side Of (Rock n Roll)", through the mellow, organ-led vibe of the title track and the Hendrix-inspired "Out Of My Head" showcase a group of musicians who really understand their craft. My personal favourite, "Stoner Song" is a fuzz-laden, lumbering beast that slowly racks up the tension and power before launching into a blistering guitar workout. All in all, a must for fans of bands like Cream, Blue Cheer and Hendrix!

Carcaño – By The Order Of The Green Goddess

Carcaño – By The Order Of The Green Goddess
Clostridium Records – 2021
Rock, Metal, Stoner, Sludge, Psych, Doom, Grunge
Rated: ****

The Italian quartet Carcaño released their self-titled debut back in 2018 which was hailed as an awesome grungy stoner metal album with overtones of sludge and sweet psychedelic touches. And this year, already a few months back, they followed that up with By Order Of The Green Goddess. Why it did not immediately turn heads and blow minds we will never know. But it is doing so now for sure. By thanks of the Carcaño four themselves, who tugged at our sleeves and because DenpaFuzz’s and fellow Doom Charts Contributor Roberto Lucas whooped up his love like whip cream on the September Peroration of said Doom Charts. Lysergic, lethargic and languid doom meets stoner, grunge and sludge, have a drink or two to get to know each other and then go out to have one of the wildest nights they might never remember By Order Of The Green Goddess. Savory, almost neo-occult atmospheres that will surely make you want to guzzle the absinth and dip your fingers in every drug that might pass before your eyes. At least, that’s how the ambience is painted and that’s how those inner urgers are stirred. Hallucinatory, mesmerizing and fascinating, like that subtle poison that ravages and eats men’s heart and brain. It will offer sanctuary and it will make you want to join a cult. An eight day trip, by virtue of eight tracks, that will surely alter your consciousness and fill you with a tide of happiness and expectation on a wave of delicious music, By Order Of The Green Goddess…

Shem – II

Shem – II
Clostridium Records – 2021
Rock, Kraut, Psych, Space Instrumental
Rated: ****

Sure, when a bandmember contacts you and apologizes for finding out about the little blog so late and then goes on to compliment you on the ‘short and witty reviews’; you can bet your last dollar that we will mention your newest record. Five piece Shem released their II album on the early days of March through that lovely German label Clostridium Records. A label specializing in kraut rock, psychedelics, ambient and long winded marvelous adventures. And Shem could not have found a better fit! Their three track release gives you forty minutes of instrumental psychedelic goodness. Trippy and spacey, the three tracks seems to manipulate the sound that surrounds you, some notes slowly decay until you hear nothing but a memory. While others build and resonate until the spectral incantation moves from thin air to thick delivery. Dramatic on some moments, dangerous in others and always beautiful; even when the noise seems to resemble a train grinding to a halt. In short, these three krautish movements form a pulsating galactic symphony of epic proportions. And we would have found out about it, and told everyone about it, even if the guys had not complimented us on our ‘short and witty reviews’…

Deaf Proof – Brain Utopia

Deaf Proof – Brain Utopia
Clostridium Records – 2019
Rock, Stoner, Fuzz, Psych, Doom, Jam
Rated: *****

Deaf Proof, a power trio from that picturesque town of Freiburg in Germany. They’ve been releasing their music since around 2011 and have now topped that all with their newest brainchild Brain Utopia! Four tracks, but almost forty minutes long. Nicely cut up into two gigantic battleship tracks and two accompanying cruisers. All of them absolutely necessary to bring this adventure to its paradisiac conclusion. For yes, it is a trip down to paradise, especially once you are locked into the jam-like quality that those big tracks possess. Powerful and whirling riffs dance around the pounding rhythms that will have you doing the universal nod from the very first moment. There is a definite organic and slight retro feel to the sound coloring, and this three-piece have become a force of nature for sure. Highly dynamic tension arcs make all the puzzle pieces fit together into the perfect groove. Brain Utopia is simply put sheer bliss…
