Classic metal in the best sense of the word! Imploring doom influences and always opting to go big, huge or gigantic! It’s the new Point Of No Return album by Finnish foursome Wizards Of Hazards! As said, their dark, vintage heavy metal is steeped in doom and proto-metal, but it also has this organic analog warmth and a haunting, old-world atmosphere. There’s a strong sense of timelessness throughout the album, as the band combines crushing riffs, memorable melodies and a raw, natural production that feels wonderfully removed from modern metal conventions.
The new album weaves tales of mortality, fate and oblivion with supernatural folklore and bygone beliefs, and in doing so, the band creates a sound that is entirely timeless, slightly ominous and rooted in all those myriad shadows of the past… Point Of No Return feels like a record that could have emerged from some forgotten corner of the late ’70s or early ’80s, yet it never comes across as mere nostalgia. Instead, Wizards Of Hazards breathe their own dark, heavy spirit into these classic influences, resulting in an album that is both familiar and entirely otherworldly...
