Ikitan
Sivert Hoyem

Morning! Hope everyone had a great week and hopefully an even better upcoming one! I’m cheating with the above list. Cause I’ve had a powerful lust for David Bowie and been going through quite a few of his records again. So, he actually was topping that list. But you all know Bowie and this post is meant to pay homage to all those albums listened last week as well as listed, that perhaps aren't household names. And we also glance back at the posts we managed to put up. A few words on the new Clouds Taste Satanic, Ikitan and Sonic Deaf Squad. New singles by The Elven and Kadavar. And it was the first week of the new month, which meant the February Doom Charts went live. What a list! And to mention another Top 10, one of the Top 10 albums of 2025 came out: Kaiser. We wrote a few lines about that one and realized the same day also saw light to another Top 10 album of 2025: Kryptograf. An album reviewed by Jon a few weeks earlier. All that great music! And we still need to grab back to great music from earlier times. Simply because we can and there is so much. Check’m out. Check’m all out!

Good morning! Hope y’all had a great weekend? It’s Monday again. And we’ve got two weeks of many interviews ahead of us. Lots of cool stuff! Some of it for Stoner HiVe as well. But this little post is a glance back at what we did last week. Did you read that weird screed about the new amazing Del-Toros album? Or the honorable Jon McGough’s write-up about that wonderful Kryptograf album?  Hope so, cause we only posted those write-ups, and both albums are worth every minute of your time. And since we love festivals, we posted the line-up news for both the magical Bear Stone Festival and the great Into The Void Festival. You going to one of them? Not sure if we can do a lot this week, but we always hope so! Have a great one! And check out the ten albums on the list above! They are good!

Top 10 Most Listened Artists Last Week…

Sivert Hoyem
Pumping Flamingo
Les Moontunes
Peacepipe
Purple Kong
The Devils
Kosmodrom
Ruff Majik
Sonic Demon
Ball

This list should have gone up on Monday of course… But we were incredibly busy with all those Favorites of 2023 lists from all of them cool Doom Charts Contributors. But since we’re nearing the end of that run… Time is opening up. So, here’s that list. Topped by that new On An Island album by Sivert Hoyem. Stunning new work! And Pumping Flamingo underneath, featuring members of that amazing The Brigade band from Norway. Les Moontunes came at us from Remi VL, and yes, we dig that weird and psychedelic jazz! And now, we’ll try to get a few things done in the next two days before we head off to Austria for a bit of off time and snowboarding…

Ledfoot – White Crow

Ledfoot – White Crow
TBC – 2020
Rock, Blues
Rated: *****

We knew about this cat before that album. But thanks to the Damned album from 2010, which featured Madrugada’s Sivert Hoyem on the track Wicked State Of Mind, we really got to know Tim Scott McConnell. His stagename, Ledfoot. His craft, blues. On his newest release White Crow the man hypnotizes and mesmerizes with his twelve string plunking. His dark bariton is smokey and weathered. Wasted and worn memories of Wovenhand, Mark Lanegan, Blind Lemon Jefferson and John Fahey pass through your mind like shifting sands, cause the entire album seems to transcend everything and all. And that’s because his roots music continues to fascinate and enthrall, even if the fundamental keynote never changes. In fact, his open approach whips around the same chords, which just seems to add to heartbreaking beauty that is White Crow. One foot on the stompbox, one foot in the grave, Ledfoot brings you his own version of Gothic Blues, and it is the only blues that will save…

The Cover That Could – III

The Cover That Could – III

Cato Salsa Experience – Planet Heart

And finally 2005 was deemed fit to release a tribute album in honor of the mighty Guitar Wolf. This notorious Japanese garage, rock and punk trio has so many great albums to their name that it was high time to celebrate all their qualities. And not just because they still have the Guinness Book of Records record for loudest recorded album ever, their record Jet Generation released in 1999. Ain’t that a kick!? But on the tribute album named I Love Guitar Wolf… Very Much, we find thirteen songs performed by bands such as Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Porch Ghouls and Jim O’Rourke. And then there is that highly noteworthy version done by the Cato Salsa Experience. The band founded and named by magician Cato Salsa Thomassen, who produced numerous albums and played righteous parts on even more. He later also went on tour with Madrugada and joined Sivert Hoyem’s band. These Norwegians do a righteous cover of the song Planet Heart from the album Planet Of The Wolves and give it that bit of air and breathing room that the original version from 1997 kind of missed. And therefore perhaps make it even better than the original?!
