That’s right… You knew about those Friday sessions, but once in a full moon, and all the planets align, this thing might just happen. A Quick Fire Weekend! Meant to spread the word on all that good stuff out there! And we know… There is so much out there, so much good and heavy stuff, and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. But here it is… Another Saturday edition of Stoner HiVe's Quick Fire Weekend! And it burns hot like molten lava!

We love Molior Superum! And have loved these cats ever since Myspace was still a thing! So, when they shoved Spegeln our way, we had it on repeat in no time! Exceptionally groovy, powerful, energetic and riveting! It’s the first single for the Från Gryning till Skymning album that will be released somewhere near October/November. What a blast off for this Quick Fire Weekend! Spegeln is high-voltage seventies psychedelia, blues-drenched stoner rock and grimy garage swagger all melted into a wild, groove-heavy sonic assault. Fueled by frantic vocals, explosive riffs and relentless boogie rhythms, their sound feels both vintage and dangerous. Like a lost rock classic detonating in real time through blown-out amplifiers!

But the new four-piece from Ghent, Belgium mixing post-metal, sludge and heavy psych is definitely the kind of quagmire to fall in love with. The new Godzilla In The Kitchen album will be out on Tonzonen Records somewhere in October. But right now you can join the rampage with the first single Nothing For None! Ever more proggy, ever more metal, it is their alternative groove that will surely pull you in. Echodelick Records rules! But you already knew that! Originally released in 2025, the Real Love is a five track by Dead Hits. A Brooklyn-based stoner rock band delivering volume, grit, and groove straight from the underground, featuring former members of NAAM and La Otracina. Well, Dead Hits seem to stumble out of the New York psychic smog clutching fuzz-drenched riffs, wah-pedal hallucinations and garage-rock napalm. Real Love howls like a subway exorcism at sunrise! Acid-soaked psych, gutter-punk swagger and amplifier worship colliding in a glorious, feedback-screaming riot somewhere between cosmic revelation and total nervous collapse. Glorious!

That's right, our very own in house poet and possible rap artist is off on a holiday, fueled by his own zealous energy and you might possibly stumble across him on some mic night in Dublin, May 25th! (The International Pub, Wicklow Street, starts at 20.00.) It's Ronny Dijksterhuis! And just before he ran out the door, he delivered another Quick Fire Friday segment in his very own style! And you know what that means... Things will get hot and heavy from here on in! 

On the brink of a highly anticipated holiday break, it's time to spit out another Quick Fire Friday. And I mean, a quick one, Lucky Luke style. So, no rambling about anything at all, just music, fired at you more rapidly than my keyboard's shadow could.

Maliciouz crafts a slow-burning journey on Sympathypnotic Intercession. From the dust-choked expanse of Joshua Tree, California, where sound feels carved from heat, weight, and silence, the eight tracks might feel like a cortege at one or more points. But it will constantly feel wholesome and healing. Yes, this release unfolds like a single almost one hour and ten minutes long, descending narrative of immersive, monolithic and monastic doom, where guitars sink into sludge-thick distortion and the drone-like resonance bends time itself…

After 39 has commenced the procession, Pendulous opens like a heavy breath before collapse, while A Thousand Deaths drags deeper into crushing, ritual repetition that feels almost geological in its patience. Intercession introduces a faint, melancholic fracture of light through all the opressive haze, and Agony & Ivory tightens the tension with abrasive contrast and buried, ghostlike melody, floating through a hallway not entered for ages. At the center, Catharticism becomes a release point, where hypnotic waves of distortion feel cleansing despite their weight, as if pressure is entirely transformative and requires no escape. Torn unravels the structure into fractured, liminal space, and Mountain Rising Falling closes the passage with vast, echoing descent and ascent folding into one another, like an M C Escher labyrinth. 

And as we might have stated before, throughout the album, the sound remains immersive, oppressive, and strangely restorative, like a slow ritual of emotional release through weight and repetition… Press play now on Maliciouz and all it's raw, unpretentious doom. If the honorable Bucky Brown says that 'Phe is short for Phenomenal' on their very first EP release, you know this is a band that has something special going on. Well, that little trio from the south of the Netherlands will be releasing a new album called Closer To The Sun somewhere after the summer has ended. And tracking the growth from that first EP to Glooming Dawn in 2020 and Nothing Else Is Real in 2023 was stunning. But hearing the first single: Adrift will blow each and everyone away. The growth is Phe. Phe stands for Phenomenal! We're honored to present to you the Single Premiere for the brand new Phe track: Adrift! 

For some the new single Adrift might scratch that King Buffalo itch or quench the Kal-El urge... But for all Adrift will feel like the right word, for this how Phe pulls the listener in. You are not dropped into a song, but it is slowly untethering from gravity. The new single moves slowly through the cosmos as it mirrors the psychonaut on board's half remembered journey through a heat-hazed desert night. Riffs arrive in slow waves rather than clean edges and support the collapsing dreamscapes. Hypnotic repetition beomes the kind of spell that pulls everything inward as time seems to stretch outwards... 

Guitars blur into shimmering spacey haze, sometimes crushing down like tectonic plates, sometimes dissolving into distant echoing lights. I often feel like we’re not doing enough on Stoner HiVe. But I fear we never can, cause there is so much and so much great stuff. I mean, we mentioned the 2022 Worlds Collide album and the Portal Within record from 2024. But before those there were two others and after those two more before this very new Robot God album was released. It’s called Onto The Afterlife and might just be their best to date… Yes… Robot God delivered again! And will do so again and again and even later this year with another album called Curse Of The Driven… 

On Onto The Afterlife, Robot God pushes their desert bound cosmic sound into darker and perhaps more emotionally volatile territory. The Sydney three still build their music around sprawling heavy psychedelic journeys, towering groove-laden riffs and vast space rock adjacent atmospheres. But the new album carries with is a dirtier and more confrontational edge. Beneath the hypnotic flow, lies a strain of grime-coated heaviness that feels drawn from doom, sludge, grunge and diesel blues. It gives the record an extra intense edge, a raw physical weight without sacrificing any of its sense of scale. 

It’s their ability to balance meditative drift with crushing momentum, moving from slow burning low end hypnosis to explosive climaxes filled with scorched guitar leads, layered effects and trance like repetition that keeps pulling you further in Onto The Afterlife. Say that three times fast. Vocals weave through the haze, they can feel haunted, sometimes introspective, sometimes urgent and always adding emotional gravity to the album’s expansive sound. 

Ambient textures and shadowy instrumental passages all broaden the experience further. And it all leads to the conclusion that these five tracks, these forty-one minutes aren’t just a collection of songs, but part of one long single immersive descent. Onto The Afterlife is an album that wants to define the Robot God sound. A sound that went out to explore what lies beyond, and came back carrying fragments of something vast, wild and beautiful. And there is more… More to explore and more to share… For that is… The Curse Of The Driven…

With festival season upon us once again, the time has come to witness so many of the bands we love come alive on stage! Of course, throughout the year there are concerts, shows in crowded bars, smoky backrooms, dubious drinking holes and dilapidated buildings. But festivals possess a magic all their own, especially the ones that stretch across two or three unforgettable days. For a brief moment, you wander through a better version of the world… A place where strangers smile at one another, where people dance without hesitation, and where freedom seems to hum in the air itself. Music becomes the common language, the heartbeat behind every shared moment and every surge of all that wonderful energy. Next up for me personally, Sonic Whip Festival. Today actually. Where will you go to chase that feeling, to stand before your favorite bands and lose yourself in the sound? Peroration time! And this time around, no less than 7 of those blurbs were written by one of the crazies that occasionally writes for the HiVe... Gnod, those chameleons from Salford that don’t give a fuck about expectations and do whatever they want with ‘total’ and ‘freedom’ being the key words when it comes down to making music, almost casually present their new album ‘Chronicles of Gnowt (Vol 1)‘. Like one would expect, it’s completely different from what they’ve done before and starts with a beautiful, short instrumental in which acoustic guitar is the focal point. There’s another five and a half minute interlude midway through that follows the same pattern, but this is mainly sixties-based psychedelic rock with acid-tinged kraut soundscapes and a production that seems to come straight from said period, but feels contemporary at the same time. With its natural flow, ‘Chronicles of Gnowt (Vol 1)‘ seems like a story unfolding before your eyes. A fantastic album that’ll make you eager to hear volumes 2 and 3, as this is the first instalment of a trilogy.

Yes baby, The Shovell is back!!!, doing what they do best: producing a raunchy, frantic fireball of sound that takes its influences from heavy psych, classic rock and a bit of stoner. ‘Trouble with the Shovell‘ is not as overwhelming as their first two albums (a case of getting used to what they do?), but it’s hanging in the slipstream and therefore alone Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell confirm their status as one of the best bands in the heavy psych scene and makes you quickly forget this is their first new LP in almost seven years. Like they’ve never been away in the first place.

Stump Grinder‘s new EP sounds like a deformed child that crawled from the womb of a guillotine after she made love to a room full of chainsaws and battle riffles. Four aggressive, furious bouts of scream-infused hardcore, sludge and stoner that’s more gritty than a piece of sandpaper adorned with razorsblades, before ending with an eerie instrumental that seems the perfect accompaniment for a funeral service in a horror movie. In other words: the perfect pass time for that 17 minute hole one of the possible fathers just shot in your agenda.

One of the surprises on Sonic Whip Festival was without any doubt Iguana Death Cult. I had seen them before, but they always surprise. It’s their very nature. Live. And on record. Cause no band has ever morphed, changed and transformed more than the Iguana Death Cult. And the new Guns Out album is no different! Formed in 2014, the new Guns Out record is their fourth official studio album and one that might be capturing their live sound in the most natural way. Cause yes, live Iguana Death Cult will forever be an entirely different animal. And one that cannot be tamed… 

Guns Out is not tame! It is a wiry, high-energy garage rock record packed with sharp riffs, shouted hooks and restless momentum. The album blends scrappy punk attitude with psychedelic grooves, funky guitar lines and twitchy dance-rock rhythms. Its songs race forward with nervous energy and a playful sense of irony, even while tackling themes like consumerism, war anxiety and mental overload. Though sometimes repetitive, the album thrives on raw immediacy, swagger and loud, sweaty fun.

Is it as good as the live beast? Perhaps not, but hearing the album, reliving the concert, feeling that energy and tasting the salt of your own sweat again, well… That’s the kind of animal you can keep cozying up too. When it’s cold outside, the summer is in full swing or the legendary Iggy Pop tells you they’re good! Iguana Death Cult has everything and more. Guns Out, hot and blazing!

Another week has passed, one that was filled with off grid time and live energy! That’s right, the real most listened list should mention: Live Music! Cause it was Sonic Whip time! And man, what a great ride it was once again! Amazing sets followed one another like clockwork. But if we pick only one favorite from Day One it has to be Iguana Death Cult. And on the Second Day it has to be Bismut. Indeed, of course, you can rest easy knowing Earthless, The Sword, Acid King, King Buffalo, Hermano, Russian Circles and actually all the rest delivered the goods as well! And yes, we have the Temple Fang - Live At Sonic Whip vinyl... It was the absolute first thing we did entering the venue... Now, we have to get grounded again and get to work so to speak! Only two more weeks though, and then I’m off grid for three weeks… But still some good stuff to do and to listen to before that day comes! Like those Sons of Node words we managed to put up last week. We shall try to do more this week! Let’s get crackin!

And there’s a good reason for that! Cause every year again, the festival sports amazing line-up that focuses a lot of psych and kraut, but also features stoner, noise and punk. Diversity is key and Sonic Whip unlocks your heart and mind! It’s time to feel that energy! It’s time to dance! 

Can’t wait to feel Bismut, King Buffalo, Hermano (twice in one week!), The Sword, Earthless, Gaupa, Gnod, Fomies, Acid King, Weite and so many more. And Ronker, discovered on Down The Hill Festival last year has the honor of closing it all out… It’s gonna be a wild and beautiful ride!

But then Sons Of Node came along, announced that the album would be out on May 15th, and yes you guessed it! Their new Consequence of Abundance album had us hungry for more! 

Their sound, like a collapsing refinery set to music: suffocatingly heavy sludge metal dragged through stoner rock haze, noise-rock chaos and hardcore abrasion. An aggro edge and colossal bass work, combined with the triple-vocal attack shove you ever forward. Shifting between roars, barks and guttural howls like three arguments happening at once, those different styles add a lot to the Sons Of Node character. It’s a sludge-soaked demolition crew with surprisingly sharp songwriting underneath all its chaos. 

Punishing grooves erupt in violent bursts of feedback and rhythmic instability. And it all feels intense and entirely physical… A body-level sludge metal assault that will bruise the ribs and the riffs will grind you up like some phantasmal machine. Each one hitting you with industrial weight, turning the entire Consequence of Abundance album into something your taste buds will be tasting for the rest of the day. It’s something to endure, to savor, cause this is impact after impact without reprieve. (Well,except for I Awake..., a lovely atmosperhic interlude.) Sons Of Node is relentless and a force to be reckoned with!

Good morning one and all! It’s Monday, the start of the week. And where last week was all about that Hermano, Solace and Troy Torino gig. What a night! Loved every minute of the Solace set and Hermano was tight and grooving and kicking ass! Man they rock! This is about Sonic Whip Festival, starting on Friday. An amazing festival, and two days filled with a stunning line-up! Can’t wait… Before we leave on Thursday, we do hope to get some HiVe work done! And predict at least one or two posts… Grin!

Just like we managed to put something up last week. A few words on the stunning Black Lung record and amazing Tusoc album. Madman Tony Maim graced us with his thoughts on American Sharks and we then did two premieres on one day! One for the kick ass single Foamdrinker from We Follow The Earth and the brilliant Mörkekraft album Fragments. Two sides of the heavy underground coin that both deserve your attention! And last but not least, because of inquiry or two, we put up a Buy Me A Coffee page. It’s a bit weird to put something like that up. But hey, why not right? It's all up in the air and we thank you for checking out the HiVe and reading our words either way... And more importantly, we talked with the main dude behind Phantom Logic, an interview that will go live on the HiVe as soon as we return from our off grid holiday in a few weeks.
