Monday Monday! Damn, a horror week of trying to get grounded, juggling quick a few things and trying to work through about a cool thousand emails and message while doing the work that pays the rent and getting groovy with some good tunes for Stoner HiVe and Doom Charts. It’s been hectic! But we’re almost settled in and will surely be soon enough, after another grueling week ahead of  us. Will need another holiday soon! Check out the ten albums above, they all kick ass and we already wrote a few words about Julie Christmas’s new record and the amazing debut by Mould. Soon, more words will arrive and we shall also continue with that Stoner Hype thing on Facebook, you know, writing a sentence or two about the Numbers 40 to 26 on the June Doom Charts… So… Soon… The show will continue! Have a great week!

Julie Christmas – Ridiculous and Full of Blood

Julie Christmas – Ridiculous and Full of Blood
Red Creek / Siviana – 2024
Metal, Noise, Sludge, Post
Rated: ****

That there would be more voices sounding like hers in the future, is not something I assumed earlier on when Björk blew everyone away with her unique vocals, sound and color manipulation. I’m sure there are even more vocalists out there but suddenly they surround me with that lovely Emma Näslund from Gaupa, also delivering guest vocals for that wild new High Desert Queen album Palm Reader. And then there’s the new Julie Christmas crushing and demolishing album Ridiculous and Full of BloodJulie Christmas, at one point part of Made Out Of Babies, Battle of Mice and of course audible on that lovely collaboration Cult of Luna album Mariner from 2016. But back in 2010 she gave us her first solo album, The Bad Wife. Now, fourteen years later we have a follow-up to that already devastatingly beautiful album. The new one is called Ridiculous and Full of Blood. Ten tracks and forty-two minutes of Julie Christmas showing off her vocal abilities. Cause she does not stay in Björk territory for the duration of the album, she moves off into punk, into howl, into whispers, into eardrum shattering shrieks. It all fits perfectly with the compositions that scurry through the noise and sludge genres, always with one foot in more post-metal or even shoegaze territories as well. Intensely fierce it will set your blood on fire, will often make sweat gush out of your pores and will send shivers down your spine. Indeed, Ridiculous and Full of Blood is no easy record, it will wear you down, it will drain you. But it will also inspire and induce some weird feeling of euphoria, that kind of elation that comes from braving a haunted house, facing that vicious neighborhood dog or not running away from your nightmares…
