Morning everyone! Another week stretches out before us as we look back to a decent week when it comes to Stoner HiVe activity. We look forward to doing the FULL ALBUM PREMIERE this week for Bad Mothers Union and we have a few reviews going up for sure. Last week we did a Video and Single Premiere for Lord of Confusion and managed to write a few words about the Witching Buzz’s Tribute albums and that amazing Mientras Las Abejas Duermen album. We mentioned the new single by supergroup Bear Bones and Onioroshi, who are currently on tour through Southern Europe. And started the week by publishing a few thoughts on the new Kal-El record Astral Voyager Vol.2. And besides all that we were honored to receive words written by our own poet Ronny Dijksterhuis about the thrilling new Cowboys & Aliens album and Madman Tony Maim graced us with a words on the new Belzebong. So, enough silly words to read and great music to listen to! Check’m out, check’m all out!
Mientras Las Abejas Duermen – MLAD Estudio Mazmorra / Kozmik Artifactz – 2026 Rock, Psych, Stoner, Doom, Prog Rated: *****
In the sun-baked hills of southern Spain, a secret stirs. Hailing from Cadiz, Spain, we’ve been keeping an ear open for everything these three produce ever since we first got wind of their first singleEl Camino Silencioso. The name alone, Mientras Las Abejas Duermen, has a magical dream like quality. And as you listen, you hear that this trio of wandering alchemists of sound, have crafted a treasure. Their debut album, whispered and howled in Spanish, carried on riffs that feel older than the land itself, whispers of a path your heart has always known. Each song a step along this once hidden path, moving from meditative valley of slow hypnotic grooves, into towering peaks of doom-lade intensity. El Camino Silencioso was but the first map, as the full album now reveals the landscape in its entirety, unfolding through improvisation and collective instinct, riding forward on riffs that feel like hoof falls or watching them crash over forgotten ruins like a storm meant to steer the wayward spirit into the right direction. As if the music knows the way better than any guide ever could. Psychedelic textures shimmer like mirages, progressive turns surprise like sudden clearings in a forest, and the subtle Andalusian air present on all compositions, but even more on the two Cruz interludes and ending Cruz de la Viñuela track, warms every bit of the traveler’s soul. The album feels like mystery turned sound and like a hidden treasure for everyone who dares to follow its path. And as some of you might know, following that path will lead you to your own personal and unique destiny. So fear nothing, even when the music storms and swells, the path of sound is truly alive and it will know the way…
Put on some groove resistant gear, flex your muscles, get your laptop, your computer, your phone (whatever), open a can of lager (or another preferred beverage), add some chips and get the party started by checking out a brand new Quick Fire Friday. Lots of doom and stoner coming your way, as well as a dash of punk and even an admirable cover of one of Mark Lanegan's songs. So, don't wait any longer and dive into this pit of darkness served to you on a beat-up plate we unearthed somewhere in the heavy underground...
Desértica - MobyDick
Desértica is an instrumental psychedelic stoner/doom outfit from La Plata, Argentina that takes you on a 50 minute interstellar trip through time and space on what appears to be their debut album 'MobyDick'. Only three tracks with each one clocking in at way over ten minutes, with closer 'Desértica' almost touching the twenty minute mark, yet there isn't a dull moment in sight. Indeed a stellar album.
American Heat isn't here to reinvent the wheel on their debut ep. Hell no, they come at you with scorching heavy rock that will have fans of Clutch, Mississippi Bones and Gay Paris salivating with joy. Raw as sandpaper and catchy as fuck. Combine those two and you're in for some kinky kind of lovemaking, courtesy of two guys from the state of Ohio.
Ries and Mies from Leiderdorp, The Netherlands, have been operating as Helleveeg and Krush, but have decided to change their name to HooR, in honour of Orange Goblin's Joe Hoare. 'Delicate Tonen' (Delicate Tones) is a title not to be taken too seriously, as this is a ferocious, no holds barred mix of stoner and punk with Dutch lyrics that have a unique take on more or less serious social themes, brought to you with a healthy (over)dose of humour.
Mientras Las Abejas Duermen - Los hijos perdidos de Umrica / Cruz del Tajo
Mientras Las Abejas Duermen is a band form Cadiz spain that recently released a two-track ep through underground label Estudio Mazmorra. 'Los hijos perdidos de Umrica' starts the proceedings and is a thumping amalgamation of stoner and doom that comes storming at you in a dust cloud of desert sand. A fantastic song that demands to be heard. Second track 'Cruz de Tajo' is a short, quiet instrumental that swirls and swerves around an axis of percussion and engulfs you with a perfect atmosphere for coming down and lets you realise what the hell just happened. One of the coolest singles released in quite a while.
After releasing a surprisingly good debut album a year ago, Germany's Void & The Nothingness are back with a two track ep of traditional doom. A deep, dragging sound lures you into their world, while the hypnotising clean singing functions as the icing on the cake. 'Ride Out / Witching Hour' is an enjoyable second stop and could lead them to underground stardom sooner than one might expect.
This EP was released back in October, but deserves to be mentioned here. Arabbia is a stoner rock power trio from Brazil that knows how to lay down the grooves and spit them in the collective face of mankind. Nice detail: the three band members share vocal duties, with all three being capable singers. That'll leave a lot of bands envious, ready to chase Arabbia's tale like a horde of revved-up boogie vans.
If there ever was a band capable of covering a Mark Lanegan song the right way, it would be French alternative rockers Bärlin. They recorded a beautiful version of 'Resurrection Song' - one of the bonus tracks that comes with buying 'Mook Lanegan', an Exit Musik fanzine special dedicated entirely to the legendary singer and songwriter. You can order the magazine HERE (in French).
And to close this episode of Quick Fire Friday on a more energetic note, we present you the new single by David Kent, released through Glory or Death Records. It's a weird, slightly chaotic mix of stoner, sludge, heavy psych and glam rock that's got a presence all its own. Dive in and experience is the way to go. Once you've done that, you'll probably find exactly what you need.
We defy all them goddamn rules! Don’t do a Quick Fire Friday on the day the new Doom Chartsedition goes online… It’s not like that rule is written in stone! But it is written on Stoner HiVe that we want to pay attention to so much great music, but there is too little time to do it all. So we came up with a way to shoot out a quick blurb and hope it will entice you to listen to the single or the entire discography! So here it is… Another Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday! And it burns hot like molten lava!
Mientras Las Abejas Duermen - El Camino Silencioso
It’s the first single for the debut album by the new out from Cádiz, Spain called As The Bees Sleep or in Spanish: Mientras Las Abejas Duermen. Which means there's another reason they fit perfectly on Stoner HiVe. Grin! Especially since the very earthy eight minute long single El Camino Silencioso will have you on the edge of the seat for its truly wonderful and accomplished sound. Shifting from slow, atmospheric passages to heavier moments, this one single promises so much. Let’s all keep an eye out for 2026, when these sleeping bees will buzz fully awake, with vinyl on Kozmik Artifactz.
Hidden Since the Foundation of the World – Bad Winter
Hidden Since the Foundation of the World is a new four-piece from Amsterdamn, that combines doom with drone, atmospheric with rock noir, psych with metal and gaze with heaviness. And the result is something entirely unpredictable and apocalyptic. They’ve released more tracks, but the icy soundscape whine that is Bad Winter will not leave you cold. Cinematic and gripping, that one track might even make you long for an incredibly Bad Winter… Just so you can play this track over and over...
You know they’re back right? And have been since September! The Danish trio Doublestone! One single so far, The False King, De Falske Kongers Tid. We can only hope this is the start of a new chapter, a new roll of the dice and a new hand of cards. For even though we only ever mentioned their Wingmakers album on Stoner HiVe, we have always loved all they’ve put out. All of it!
Bear, Man Dangerous – When We Cease To Understand The World
We’re already there, sweet Bear, Man Dangerous. Aren’t we? I sure as hell can't make heads of tails out of most of everything anymore... But still, their new track When We Cease To Understand The World expertly twists genres into knots and lights them on fire. Shoegaze bleeds into sludge; psychedelia melts into doom. It’s beautiful, ugly, and utterly consuming, almost chokingly so!
Lo-fi garage punk. Indeed, that’s Minot for ya! But upbeat! A three piece from Missoula, Montana that goes all the way back to the sixties and hits you with a Sonics kind of attitude. A jittery fuzz tale, where one track rattles like fluorescent cubicle blues and frustrated howls into the void. Flipside People Pleaser drifts in sugary decay, ghostly pop haunts the hop. Sparse drums, raw pulse, garage grit. Heartbeat breakdown, smokey honesty and a rhythm you can’t shake! I like Minot!
Artizans PR are always spreading the good word about some great new rock bands! Usually from the Mediterranean. And new fourpiece Tempted? hails from Greece! For You Only is the first single for an album that will probably see the light somewhere in 2026. Nineties vibing and grunge toned, the songs sings about a ‘deep romantic disappointment’ . Which ofcourse fits snugly with the grunge influences. I’m tempted to announce that Tempted? might just be one of the great bands to emerge out of Greece next year!
"Dagsländan" or "The Mayfly" as it would translate to in English is a short poem written by the Linnéa Wetterbrandt, a close friend to the band. The text is a short reflection on how life would have been if we only got to live, just like a mayfly, for one day. It’s their second single but our first foray into the world of formed in this year, Wickermän and we certainly hope not our last. This isn’t one day fly material, but honest hard rock, seventies touches, stonerized moments and prog oriented. A new Swedish band to watch out for!
There Is No Spoon - The Sound Of Doom To Come [Part 1]
There Is No Spoon is a four piece instrumental band from Berlin, Germany that obviously wants to marry the existentialism and metaphysical to their atmospheric doom metal and art rock. A bit of drone and a bit of noise and promise that the three track The Sound Of Doom To Come [Part 1] is the first of four parts that chronicle a world collapsing under the weight of its own noise… Let’s keep an ear out for that!
