The Doom Chart For January 2022

Doom Charts

"If you don’t worry about the future, sooner or later it’s the past. And if they say the thrill is gone, then it’s time to take it back!" ~ Meat Loaf (Michael Lee Aday)

As we begin to embark upon another calendar years’ worth of new album releases, we rest assured that we are INDEED The Keepers Of The Flame! Without question, we indentured denizens of the D.C. universe take our charge most seriously as we endeavor and ever-labor to make you, the mass appreciators of the non-mainstream musical realm, well informed and oft times, saturated in distortion… deluged in down tuning, or afloat upon feedback. Of course, the naysayers (lookin’ at you, Mr. Simmons) and the naive know-nothings will live up to their namesakes and thus, have no clue when it comes to what is good music and what it can do. Simple and to the point, “change lives” makes every other point moot. It’s our way, our path, and it beckons to us, forcing us to ignore the sonic ruts and moronic butts… to rise above and fully embrace that which we love. Label it whatever genre one must and be not misguided, for we be the DOOM CHARTS in which thou may trust.

We are here to inform you, sometimes forewarn you, and we have a collective support and are happy to engage in a Rock ‘N Roll-based rapport (with you all). It is there we know our kind, we have bonds, and possess a camaraderie that is hard to define. Call us shaman or spirit guides, we holy men and women that prophesy as we decry… the best of the newest records out and available for you to buy and remember……..

“EVERYTHING LOUDER THAN EVERYTHING ELSE!!!”
(Pat ‘Riot’ Whitaker — The Ripple Effect)

Another year, and the list resets! Everyone seems to be ready for a fresh start and we start off 2022 with 30 new albums without a single repeat from last year, out of just over 200 albums voted for! In the last few months, a handful of new faces have joined up, with a few familiar faces stepping away to refocus. There’s already a long list of albums to look forward to, with many strong releases in January alone! Let’s keep our enthusiasm up for a great year in music and live shows, and a healthy and happy year to everyone!
“…And the magic music makes your morning mood”
(Remi VL)

As you know, we were on work/holiday, so Remi VL took over on the Doom Charts to get the January list out to you all in proper fashion and on time! And what a marvelous job he did! Gonna have to go away more often now! Ho ho ho! We sent our list before we left and are glad to see a few of our choices ended up on the January 2022 edition of the Doom Charts! The ones that made it are: Fostermother, Mamvth, Mud Spencer, Cormano, Frozen Planet … 1969, Yo No Se, Earthless, Blue Rumble, Tigers On Opium, Sunczar & Hazemaze … But our personal Number 1: Volcanova and their Cosmic Bullshit album did not! What happened there? Well, there’s always next month! And yes; of course, we shall be listening to the entire January Doom Charts in a row, starting tomorrow…

The Doom Chart for June 2021

Doom Charts

The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can’t be any large-scale revolution until there’s a personal revolution, on an individual level. It’s got to happen inside first.” ~ Jim Morrison

Amen Mr. Morrison, can you come back and join our hard rock revolution? Time to put down the act, societal roles are overrated, we must stand up and fight for our right to party. Or is this the end my friend? I imagine Jim would be quite unhappy about the way the media has contorted reality lately, but what he would be blown away with is this months Doom Charts!! What a month. The year is halfway over and like the weather in the northern hemisphere, the global output of heavy underground music is heating up. Without further ado, let’s dive into the June Doom Charts.

Let’s indeed do that! Let’s deep dive that stuff! Cause we weren’t around for this month’s edition. We were travelling hard through the French vistas and slow up those mountains. But upon our return we are giddy with anticipation of checking all those June Edition albums that made the Doom Charts. Cause there are quite a few we did not hear yet and we are glad to see many of the albums we voted for before or would have voted for this month made the final list. Vokonis, Yo No Se, Spacemetal, Pale Keeper, Dunbarrow, Seum, Savanah, Tarlung, 10,000 Years, Shun, Boss Keloid, Heavy Temple and ofcourse the Number One: King Buffalo! Which we wrote a little thing about back in May... Man, and then there are about 20 others we need to check out! Which will dive into immediately! Let’s check’m out! Check’m all out!

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Another week has passed and we have time for another Quick Fire Friday round. Biggest news of the week? King Buffalo is set to release three new full-sized albums! Now here’s a band that really made the most of the pandemic year! Well done! Three hooray’s! And I really can’t wait to hear all three! But until that time and for now we just have to move on with this thing called Quick Fire Friday. Cause we just want to get the word out on as much of it as possible and we do not have the time to do things in better way. Cause we know, we know, the albums and bands deserve more than the few words we will jot down here. More attention and more of our time! But there is so much out there and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. So here it is. The Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Friday! And its burns hot like molten lava!

Yo No Se – Black Door

In a week or two the new title track single and video will land for the Terraform album by Bristol grunge trio Yo No Se. And trust us, that single is just as awesome as the Black Door single released two weeks ago. And trust us, so is the rest of the album! Which was mastered by Jack Endino.

The Dev – Shameless Life

I’ll bite! And I hope Nikollaj Leshi does as well! Hottdamn! The new The Dev single Shameless Life sports a shameless glamorous video and some wild drum work! Female fronted metal from dead center Florida, which has an LA edge and something extremely poppy vocals floating over some intense riffage. Sweet and sour all mixed into one perfect cocktail!

Barbason – Demo

Wanna hear something extremely cool? Go check out the two track demo by new Dutch stoner metal outfit Barbason. Comprised out of members from Thammuz, Black Valley, Stone In Egypt and Black Burned Blimp there something highly atavistic yet cosmic to the two track available on the Bandcamp site and even more so to that studio jam on the youtube video. Dang! Can’t wait to hear more!

LMI / Vulturepeak – Split album

We still spin the shit out of the Excess Subconscious album, that L.M.I album released through Handstand Records and Maniyax Records back around June 2020. But the crazies just released a new split album with another insanely heavy outfit called Vulturepeak. Punk, hardcore, stoner, sludge, noise and screamo all nicely rolled into one package. One package that will pummel you senseless!

Cross This Bridge – In Between

Cross This Bridge is a band based in Bratislava, Slovakia, but is a truly international cooperation with members from Slovakia, Italy and Switzerland. In Between is the first single for their first five track EP. Metal with a measured amount of epic, very open and very dynamic. Very charming indeed!
