The Doom Charts For June 2023

Doom Charts

“Heavy music will not be contained. Heavy music breaks free. Heavy music expands to new territories. It crashes through barriers. Painfully, perhaps even dangerously. But, err, there it is, heavy music finds a way…”
~ Ian Malcolm

Here we are with the brand-new June 2023 edition of the Doom Charts. Featuring no less than 40 fresh and minty albums. Quite a few self-released albums charted the Top 25 this edition, which always warms our heart. But to our regret and sorrow we must lament, quite a few albums that aren’t featured on Bandcamp are also high on the list. We don’t want to keep singing the praise of Bandcamp continuously, but it works like a charm and has become a definite cornerstone of the Heavy Underground. Right? So, we do wonder why those bands do not take advantage of said platform. It’s another and much-loved way to get the word out on your glorious new album. But hey, those albums which can be heard online, can be heard online here, just scroll down and press play on all those thirty-six amazing new albums. Cause they rose to the top of 272 albums that received votes this month. And those other four? Well, the cool Rob Hammer features one on his Youtube channel… Another one can be found on Headbanger Channel and for the others, well, the Heavy Underground will find a way… Cause heavy, errr, all good music always finds a way…

It's got a bite and it's got a bark! And no, it's not a dinosaur... It's the June 2023 Doom Charts!!

And featuring at least 13 albums I voted for... To wit: Saint Karloff, BLACK RAINBOWS, Snakemother, Lamassu, Queens of the Stone Age, Mammatus, ROYAL THUNDER, Yawning Man, mouth, The Dirty Seeds, RIVAL SONS, From The Ages & New Dawn Fades...

Gonna be listening to The Slow Voyage now and working my way all the way to Number One in the next few days...

Welcome to Doom Charts, representing some of the finest bloggers, journalists, radio, podcasters and reviewers from the heavy underground around the globe.  Each month, our critics submit their picks for the best new doom, sludge, metal, stoner, psychedelic and heavy rock albums.  The results are compiled and tabulated into the chart below.  This is a one-stop shop for the best new albums in the world…

The Doom Chart for February 2021

Doom Charts

For most of us this time last year we were getting our first taste of the COVID blues. Fast forward to 2021, and it appears there is some light at the end of the tunnel. In many areas live music is making its way back on track, cases seem to be trailing off and we’re beginning to ease into a sense of normalcy. That said, the music continues to blow our minds and has remained a staple while everything else around us seemed more like pandamonium.

February features a tight race at the top with many albums clearly influencing the listeners. Several records from January hang on for another round this month seeing 21 new entries dominating the charts as per usual, with a total of 279 unique albums voted upon.

No quote this month. Nobody knows why. But we don’t need quotes, we need music! And there she goes! The wait is over... The all new February edition of the Doom Charts went live on March 1! Featuring no less than 21 new enties and a new Number One! Will be running through all of those amazing albums once again today. There are even a few I haven't had the chance to listen to yet! Incredible! Zålomon Grass for instance! Can't wait to hear that one!  Personal votes went out to From The Ages, Kabbalah, Mos Generator, VOKONIS, Demon Head, Electric Mother, Komatsu, Rostro Del Sol, Holy Monitor, Indica Blues, Void Commander & Spelljammer…

The Doom Chart for February 2021

From The Ages – I

From The Ages – I
Self released – 2021
Rock, Instrumental, Metal, Stoner, Doom
Rated: ****

Comprised out of former members of Mammoth Salmon and Alltar, three-piece From The Ages delivers their first EP entitled I without much hoopla. But they should hoop the shit out of it, cause the four instrumental stoner metal and psychedelic doom tracks are carefully constructed and beautifully played. Totally uncompromising the choppy drums will initially throw you off balance before devouring you whole; and the axe slinger’s talents are beyond dispute. There’s heavy gloom here, mournful, but very darkly melodic as well. The absolutely brilliant title Denouement seems to indeed book end the entire EP; going into almost jazzy territories and throwing around ideas like dynamite, almost getting themselves into the dangerous terrain of avant garde doom. Without any reservation the first three tracks are ones you can easily get yourself lost in. But that final track will make you realize you’re not in Kansas anymore. Nothing left to do but follow the yellow brick road… And the applause at the end is well deserved!
