Good morning one and all! It’s Monday, the start of the week. And where last week was all about that Hermano, Solace and Troy Torino gig. What a night! Loved every minute of the Solace set and Hermano was tight and grooving and kicking ass! Man they rock! This is about Sonic Whip Festival, starting on Friday. An amazing festival, and two days filled with a stunning line-up! Can’t wait… Before we leave on Thursday, we do hope to get some HiVe work done! And predict at least one or two posts… Grin!

Just like we managed to put something up last week. A few words on the stunning Black Lung record and amazing Tusoc album. Madman Tony Maim graced us with his thoughts on American Sharks and we then did two premieres on one day! One for the kick ass single Foamdrinker from We Follow The Earth and the brilliant Mörkekraft album Fragments. Two sides of the heavy underground coin that both deserve your attention! And last but not least, because of inquiry or two, we put up a Buy Me A Coffee page. It’s a bit weird to put something like that up. But hey, why not right? It's all up in the air and we thank you for checking out the HiVe and reading our words either way... And more importantly, we talked with the main dude behind Phantom Logic, an interview that will go live on the HiVe as soon as we return from our off grid holiday in a few weeks. We are unfortunately too busy with work beforehand. Thanks for stopping by, checking out the HiVe and listening to all that’s good and heavy! Check out the list above, they all rock!

Black Lung – Forever Beyond

Black Lung – Forever Beyond
Magnetic Eye Records – 2026
Rock, Prog, Psych
Rated: *****

The American outfit Black Lung released their self-titled debut EP back in 2014 and followed that one up with two albums that matched that first release in quality before blowing all of that out of the water with the brilliant 2022 album Dark Waves. And since the beginning of March there’s a new addition called Forever Beyond, an album that proves to be even more beautiful than all that came before. The psychedelic rock continues to drift ever closer to the sound of All Them Witches, but where that band leans into an increasingly oppressive atmosphere, Black Lung instead expands outwards… Crafting something wide, grandiose, and filled with sweeping gestures. Even when the themes touch on fascism, blind nationalism, and the suffocating machinery of capitalist oligarchy, the music remains strangely alluring: seductive, provocative, and at times even dreamlike.

At moments, the band veers into blues-inflected passages, or even allows hints of metal to surface, but always the result is the same, an invitation to lose yourself, to smile quietly, and to drift into reverie. Added to this is the remarkable voice of vocalist Dave Cavalier, which arrives precisely when needed to deepen the emotional resonance of each passage. The result is an album that stands as one of the finest you are likely to hear this year. Thematically, it may speak to the current condition of human society, and in doing so perhaps achieves a kind of  timelessness. In any case, it all feels as though Forever Beyond has been made for eternity…

Good morning! After a week filled with three interviews, preparing for those and of course a new edition of the Doom Charts, this one will be marked off by a show in Utrecht by the one and only Hermano! Can’t wait to see the Hermano heroes once again! And with Solace and Troy Torino as pre-show this is one hell of a night! Might be going to bed early, just so Friday arrives early…

And on the HiVe we managed to post something about the new Iron Jinn single, re-posted those words on Corrosion of Conformity and Phantom Logic. And started with that wild Single Premiere for the new Maliciouz! Have you been healed yet by the glacial doom of Catharticism? Check it out! Check’m all out!

Good morning! It’s been a heavy week trying to come to grips with the fact I’m becoming an old man. A freaking bout with the flu is taking me many days to recuperate from. It’s been over a week now and I’m still not a 100%. And because of all the lying around on couches and bed has wrecked my lower back. Pfff… Luckily we have all this amazing music to lift our spirit and heal our soul! The road to recovery might be longer nowadays, but its paved with great riffs and awesome grooves! Don’t believe me? Check out that wild and amazing Quick Fire Friday segment Ronny Dijksterhuis delivered for Stoner HiVe! Featuring ten amazing outfits! Or get ready for the KrashKarma live tour by revisiting the last album, like we did. And two full reviews appeared, about that brilliant Yeast Machine and earth shattering Desert Colossus! Can’t stop spinning both of them! Or many of the albums that are on the Most Listened to list above, check’m out. Check’m all out!

Monday is upon us once again! A new week and a new chance to do more for the Heavy Underground. We are blessed with so much time to listen to all that amazing music. But we would love more time to write and promote all those amazing albums, bands and projects! Like the two festivals we mentioned yesterday, Jam In The Psych Castle and Bear Stone Festival. I think we will try to mention more of those this week. And don’t forget, HUFR Fest is happening in April over in Denver! Well, and we mentioned those two singles: American Sharks and Midnight Whiskey Massacre. Besides premiering the New Dawn Fades track Leave My Loneliness Unbroken. And guess what, we have TWO more PREMIERES happening this week! The Doom Charts Peroration for January went live and the review for Stargo’s new album Violet Skies. Well, I guess the week did not pass in vain. Here’s hoping we can do more this week!

Mornin y’all! Monday is once again upon us! And we can glance back at some damn fine concerts during the weekend. A magnificent Anna von Hausswolff and three bands that tore The Jack in Eindhoven a new one. The moody and atmospheric Nevels opened the night, followed by a pristine Der Mancha Red and the debut stage experience for the aggro post metal mixture of Even If We Lose. And damn, how Der Mancha Red have grown, incredibly tight and a sound that reaches every fiber of your being. But as those tones slowly pass away now, we look forward to the FULL ALBUM PREMIERE by Mount Palatine we’ll do this Wednesday. And look back to thank Tony Maim for his Gluecifer write-up and Ronny Dijksterhuis for Iron Head and a massive Quick Fire Friday. And personally we jotted down some word on Barbears… Let’s hope to do some more this week! And check out those albums on the Top 10. Even though many of them won’t come out for a month or more, some of them have their first singles out and they will surely entice you to get ready for more! Have a great week everyone!

Black Lung – Ancients

Black Lung – Ancients
Ripple Music / Noisolution – 2019 (March 8th / 22nd)
Doom/Heavy Rock
Rated: *****

I was having a couple of drinks before heading home when The Snake walked in –fuck it. Why is he here now? Ever since kicking the habit, The Snake was the last person I wanted to see. He always had good shit but I was trying to escape that world now. He wandered over to me.

“Alright mate, got some good stuff for you today.”
“Fuck off Snake, I’m clean now and don’t need the stuff you are trying to sell me.”
“But mate, this is top quality Doom. Heavy riffs, top notch solos , the works.”
“Snake, you know I have given up Doom for good. I was sick of female vocals suddenly making a band ‘Occult’ or just slowing some 2nd hand Sabbath riffs down and playing some blues over the top.”
“Tony, this is different. This is really great. Tell you what. Listen to the first track for free. If you don’t like it, walk away, no charge”

It did sound tempting and to be honest could a little bit of Doom hurt? I slipped some headphones on and Snake put the 1st track on. DOOOOM!!! Thick heavy doom with thunderous riffs that had a feral urgency to them. Impassioned vocals over solos that went straight to my brain. And so quickly and easily I was hooked again. Black Lung had become my drug of choice and their album Ancients a contender for my end of year list.
