Video - An Evening With Knives – The Mistake

An Evening With Knives – The Mistake

End of Time was released March 2025 and was yet another amazing An Evening With Knives album. We wrote a few words back then as you might have read. But after the album matured for more than a year, we can still state that the eight songs on the album feel forged in fire, thunder and shadow. An Evening With Knives return with End Of Time, eight songs forged in fire, thunder and shadow. Driven by Jarno van Osch’s fierce drumming, the Eindhoven trio sounds leaner, darker and more dangerous, every note striking with purpose. Guitars shimmer, bass surges and drums pound like an approaching storm, while Marco Gelissen’s roars tear through the darkness. From the turbulent fury of The Mistake to the haunting depths of S21, this is metal that breathes, burns and leaves the ground trembling beneath your feet. And we do not mention The Mistake for nothing… Cause just now… A new video was released for that one song… Cause it features proudly on a new two-track single soon to be released called: The Rabbit & The Mistake. Make no mistake, the critique of self-righteous leadership and the sheep-like willingness of others to follow it, still cuts like a knife…

An Evening With Knives Announce New EP The Rabbit & The Mistake and Release "The Mistake" Video

Dutch psychedelic post-metal trio An Evening With Knives follows up its latest album End of Time with a new two-track EP built around the song The Mistake. The release will be available on all major streaming platforms and is accompanied by a brand-new music video created by artist Paddy Murphy. Alongside The Mistake, the EP also features the previously unreleased track The Rabbit.

With its ominous atmosphere and crushing intensity, The Mistake feels more relevant than ever.

The band comments:

“The world is on fire. Current events speak for themselves and form the perfect backdrop for The Mistake — a track that unfortunately becomes more relevant by the day. When artist Paddy Murphy approached us with an idea for a music video for the song, we didn’t have to think twice. The result is a bizarre visual trip with a confronting nod to the strange reality we currently live in.”

Youitube

The EP also includes The Rabbit, a track that until now remained hidden in the shadows of the End of Time studio sessions. The song was one of the first tracks written for the album, but ultimately did not make the final tracklist.

“More songs were recorded during the studio sessions than would fit on the album. The Rabbit is about helplessly surrendering to the whims of others, and the grim satisfaction of witnessing their eventual downfall. To us, this track always deserved to see the light of day — and now, on September 2, it finally will.”

Following the release, An Evening With Knives will embark on a fall tour across the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. The first show is scheduled for Friday, September 4 at Vera in Groningen.

The Red Lantern

The Red Lantern

We haven’t been able to do a Red Lantern post every year. Cause the albums that earn the Red Lantern are only those on a sent in list of twenty entries, where they occupy the 20th position, and then only get voted for on that twentieth spot that one time. The years when this did not happen at all, we just invented the Bottom Dwellers post. And the reason why, remains the same. We just love the fact somebody out there loves these albums so hard they want other people to know about them. And we are here to help out!

If only a tiny little bit...

So, since the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown is a weighted list and not every lovely freak out there sends in their list as a Top 20. Some send more, some send less. And we only count the albums that receive a Number 20 spot on any of the lists sent in as a contender for the Red Lantern. So this year, we have THREE albums that received only one vote as a Number 20 spot on someone’s list... Three amazing albums we might add! And here they are...

An Evening With Knives - End Of Time

End Of Time by Eindhoven metal trio An Evening With Knives lives up to its apocalyptic promise. Featuring new drummer Jarno van Osch, the album is fiercer, tighter, and more direct than its predecessors, with eight lean tracks packed into a punchy 39 minutes. While Marco Gelissen’s vocals occasionally search for footing, his roaring delivery quickly dominates. Standouts like “Pride Of Lions” and the atmospheric closer “S21” showcase an album that’s aggressive, focused, and seismic.

 Full Review Here

Miscellen - Emerald Ash

With Emerald Ash, Miscellen conjures a world where time erodes but leaves echoes of beauty. Nine expansive tracks unfold like weathered statues and fading photographs—fragile yet enduring. Layers of textured instrumentation, from Jason Sevanick’s ethereal strings to Joe King’s primal drumming, entwine with Tyler Wolosin’s expressive vocals, Paul Green’s piercing violin, and ghostly field recordings. Sparse voices and dreamlike passages drift through desolate soundscapes, balancing melancholy with defiance, capturing the fleeting, persistent pulse of life and the quiet strength that lingers beyond impermanence.

The Ossuary - Requiem For The Sun

Italy’s The Ossuary slam full-force with Requiem For the Sun, a crushing mix of doom, classic metal, and psychedelic stoner rock. Blistering riffs, scorching solos, and haunting vocals hit from the first note of “Altar in Black” to the epic closer “Eloise.” Tracks like “Far From the Tree” deliver unforgettable hooks, spine-tingling grooves, and headbanging intensity, while slower, atmospheric moments keep the darkness alive. Inventive, heavy, and relentlessly powerful, this album proves The Ossuary are a modern metal powerhouse you can’t ignore.

An Evening With Knives – End of Time

An Evening With Knives – End of Time
Argonauta Records / Electric Spark Records – 2025
Metal, Post, Sludge, Prog
Rated: ****

Two weeks from now the world will quake and tremble just a little bit more from all those stereos around the globe set to volume eleven! It will signal the coming of the End Of Time. And by that we do not mean the biblical end of times, but the new album by Eindhoven, the Netherlands metal trio An Evening With Knives. The first studio release with new drummer Jarno van Osch, who was already introduced to the world by that wonderful FNR Sessions from 2023. Which made clear the sound would be turning a more aggressive and even more turbulent corner. End Of Time is definitely that! Furious, fiery and ferocious. There are a few moments here and there where the vocals of Marco Gelissen sound a little less convincing than on earlier albums. As if he was searching for the right direction or sound to aim for. But those moments are quickly dispersed by the righteous roars that usually follow. Like a lion about to devour his competitors! Those are perhaps two of the obvious differences in comparison to the earlier quality releases. Another one is that not just the drums are more direct, so are the compositions. Not a note too much seems to have been the adagio and this gives the songs, paradoxically enough, more room to come into their own. Eight tracks with the perfect vinyl running time of almost 39 minutes. Singles Pride Of Lions, The Mistake and Voices have been out for a bit now and turned heads. But those heads will be needing neck braces after hearing the short deviously whirling Death and the final and longest track on the album S21. S21 with seven and a half minutes takes the listener to Cambodia and speaks of all the atrocities that went on during the reign of the Khmer Rouge. Slowly picking up the pace, grabbing back the most perhaps to the sound of earlier albums, they start out very atmospheric and with the malicious utterings of Gelissen, you can feel the disgust seeping into your veins. Beautiful guitar work later on, thanks to riveting bass that pushes those guitar lines towards the heavens. It’s one of the many highlights on the album. And all of it is sure to set off a seismic event…

Love For Loud Fest

Love For Loud Fest

The honorable Els Bruinewoud has been in the booking and management scene of the heavy underground in one way or another for ages but decided to strike out on her own over a year and a few moons ago. Her philosophy is one of pure philanthropic love for the underground, the music and the bands is encapsulated by the name she chose: Love For Loud. Trying to organize all concerts and festivals in a way that all proceeds go to the ones performing and the small independents that help out with organizing those amazing nights. Well, on March 29th will be a new culmination of all those factors when she organizes the first Love For Loud Fest at Het Groene Veld in Amsterdam. A second date is set for end of May, but with what bands we do not know yet. But the line-up for the event on March 29th is one the stuff of dreams are made of…

An Evening With Knives – FNR Sessions

An Evening With Knives – FNR Sessions
Argonauta Records – 2023
Rock, Metal, Post, Sludge, Doom
Rated: *****

We were there for the release party at the Effenaar in Eindhoven, the only place they could have held the release party, since the new album FNR Sessions, is the live, but without audience in the Effenaar recorded album by Eindhoven post, sludge, alternative metal stalwarts An Evening With Knives. The seven tracks on this album come from their earlier releases. Black Out for instance stems from their 2018 ep Fade Out, the opening and closing tracks from Serrated released in 2018, and the remaining four originate from Sense of Gravity from 2020. For those familiar with An Evening With Knives it will come to no surprise that the sound is immensely thick, and that it comes in waves. For those that have never had the pleasure to see them live, this will be a good introduction to what the sound will do to you once you will finally see and experience them on a stage somewhere. Of course, it still does not do complete justice to the live experience, even if you are going berserk in whatever room you are situated in listening to FNR Sessions. For you are not going wild together with the band and the rest of the audience as those waves wash over you. That shared comradery and state of awe is still missing. However, the seven tracks do provide you with the best the band can do within those limitations. The absolute best in fact! FNR Sessions, is in that respect the perfect introduction to the band and their new drummer. Who makes it all a tiny bit more choppy and less chugging. Recorded within a circle of fifty amplifiers, the wall of sound they created, turns into a monster wave. Especially on those masterful crashes, it almost crushes you into a pulp. But the band also manages to shine on those more lighted moments, where both guitar and drums almost shimmer like silver sun freckles on the crest. The fact that Black Out is featured prominently in the middle of this live album serves as a perfect example to how the band is continually evolving. Even though the motif and lyrics are still very much the same, the song itself, the structure, the speed, the vocals, the groove has become much different, grown gigantic and into powerful thrusting entity. In all, FNR Sessions adds an extra layer to the An Evening With Knives discography, growing ever more explosive and atrociously delicious! And then we haven’t even mentioned that amazing extra feature you receive when you buy the album. A link to see the full live performance, as they recorded the album. Just check the entincing video available for Levitate. There they are, in the middle of those amplifiers, three honorable sonic warriors, ready to do battle…

Stoner HiVe’s Top 5 Most Listened To Albums Last Week…

Stoner HiVe’s
Top 5 Most Listened To Albums Last Week…

Another telegram style tam tam update of the past week before we head out into the sickly world! Cause the world is sick. Has been for a while. On many levels. But it is now visible to all. The plague is upon us. We will all sneeze ourselves to death. It’s still hard to believe that a new strain of the flu can already disrupt human society and the world to such a degree. What if something even more deadly or contagious hits us? Ye gods! I think everyone should start thinking about heaving a vegetable garden instead of flowers. Might be the wise thing to do… But of course in a few months time this will all have passed and we all will think fondly back at the time when the entire world almost grinded to a halt… We’ll see… But let’s not go the route of all media and start blabbing the same things over and over about the disease. Let’s focus on the things that will get us through this period! Awesome freaking music!! DeWolff streamed a show they did for an empty venue because their tour got cancelled. In my hometown there will be the Isolation Sessions. Featuring bands from the  region, like An Evening With Knives, who are now, like DeWolff unable to tour for their just released album. Those Isolation Sessions will be streamed and will become available for pay what you want purchase on Bandcamp. But that’s the future! The past week was filled with other stuff. We’ve have become totally addicted to I Saw The Deep. We mentioned their Vimana release last Friday on the Quick Fire Friday round and man, the release has rocked me to my core! It’s been on repeat the entire weekend. A gigantic slab of doom, progressive and psychedelic, deep sci-fi rock, which features power rock drumming with metal riffing and grungy vocals. A cathedral of heaviness if ever there was one! Lord Loud’s new album Timid Beast won’t be released till somewhere around September. But we have been blessed by King Volume Records and Kozmik Artifactz to get it earlier. Fuzzy, gritty garage that ticks all the right boxes, from proto to punk and from psych to power! One to look forward to! We had the pleasure to speak with Tim ‘Tipover’ Vanhamel when he released his Sciencing album in 2017. And now he’s already back with another Millionaire release Applz NOT Applz record. (Where’s the ‘not’ sign in ascii codes?) Out on Unday Records its filled with more  earworms and catchy melodies than one can handle, especially since it always turns around on itself and become weird or even insane. And those earworms, those melodies that will stick with you throughout the day do that more and more with every new listening session. Wor Pigs from France released Beasts and it is righteous animal indeed. Heavy rock! Stoner and psychedelic in abundance, bluesy and enthralling. It drags you along on an adventure from those first few notes. There is no escape! And it will get rid of the pain of being a man. And when you’re looking for some tunes to cruise with? To rev up the engine and go out looking for trouble? Check out The Goners new release Good Mourning. The Five from Sweden have delivered a tasty garage and hardrock album that has no trouble showing us all some class. Yes, we are the squares now. And we shall have to pony up the dough, they immediately give you a whiff of something you might never even knew existed. They ride and raid like marauding cavalry, and sound like they’ve punched their way out of a hundred rumbles, stayed alive with only their boots and their fists. Ah, these righteous dudes, they love to screw it on and we love to get loose! So, you’d better go and check’m out! You know you have all the time in the world now! Check’m out! Check’m all out!
