Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

It’s Friday! And over on the Doom Charts, we’re doing a crazy amount of Friday Freebies again! So, if you are a heavy rock addict and a bandcamp enthusiast, head on over to the Doom Charts for your new favorite album! Over here on Stoner HiVe we’re doing a Quick Fire Friday Session! And you know what that means… Only a small amount of words to get the good word out! The good word about something bad ass, something heavy and something cool! Check it out below… And we know… There is so much out there, so much good and heavy stuff, and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. But here it is… Another Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Friday! And it burns hot like molten lava!

Cascavell – Bluehouse Terror

Cascavell brings you seventies swagger, eighties sleaze and a whole lot of attitude on Bluehouse Terror. It’s their new single and will rock you like a hurricane! Especially if you dig that Motley Crue, Guns ‘n Roses, Aerosmith vibe, long to be back in that era. And yes sir, that vocalist might indeed induce some terror in you! What a throat!

Dryland – Monomyth

We love Monomyth. But the new Dryland single is not an ode to that Dutch band. It is however the lead single for their upcoming Weekend In The Swamp album, out on October 27th. And since we dug their Dances With Waves album from 2020, you can bet your ass we are digging the new single which features guest vocals from Violet Vasquez of Mount Saturn. And we can safely assume we will love the full album as well! For this track alone stomps on the terra like a monsterous beast!

Mothman and The Thunderbirds - The Simpsons = Real Footage (2023 Redux)

Ay caramba! It's out today! An all new version of their 2021 song The Simpsons = Real Footage, remastered and re-energized by Egor Lappo. Additionally, Alex Parkinson has provided a new bassline and some added bells and whistles to take this lively thrasher to the next level. A lively trasher with lively female vocals offset against that growling male. Next level Simpsons, well, this surely calls for a celebration, right!? D’oh!

Prosthetic Bung - The Curse of Castle Bungenstein

We mentioned them before and we can keep mentioning them on a monthly basis, cause they keep delivering new crazy noise constantly! They're as horrible as that King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard gang, just constantly putting out new stuff once simply needs to hear! And well, the all new The Curse of Castle Bungenstein is out on Forbidden Place Records which means Prosthetic Bung is going places! Very limited in amount, the scary tribalistic noise and doom punk on this vinyl might burn a hole right through your speakers…

Endre – Demo 2

I'm sure we mentioned before how much we love Hungary and the city of Budapest. If we did not, well, let's mention it again, we love it! So when the three tracks from the Hungarian trio Endre came around, I was immediately excited. And rightfully so, it turned out! Cause well, these tracks will enchant every listener, with their dark gloomy sound and the amazing female vocalist that will surely bewitch. A bit of doom, psych, the alternative nineties and grunge, the Endre three know exactly how to navigate the heavy under current and pay Charon enough to make it to the other side. This is really damn freaking good!

L'uomo Nero - Voda Alebo Ohen

The end is Nero! Sorry, my mind always seems to do that. Weird connections. But hey, weird seems to fit these three from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Surely, for this third EP is the finale to the occult rock trilogy provided by the three from L'uomo Nero. Voda Alebo Ohen delves further into their very own Lovecraftian music thriller. Desert blues, garage, punk and alternative rocking with that romantic, gothic, and Romanesque magical touch. Wild gypsy stuff! And yes, those other two EP’s are equally stunning!

Clementine 9 – Alligator

You want weird? You want mysterious? Get a load of Clementine 9! And perhaps find out more than we could about this outfit... More ramshackle garage blues rocking goodness with Alligator by Clementine 9. A horror touch and a whole lot of suaveness. Yes, once heard, the mysterious Clementine 9 will definitely leave a mark… A bitemark!

The Great Lie - Vertigo

I recall one night in a place called the Effenaar, somewhere around 1998. A buddy of mine had been in a terrible car accident, his leg was surgically pinned together and he was walking around with crutches. Ordered to give it a lot of rest and not to strain it too much. But we went to a Madball concert anyway. Which by chance, might actually have been the tour with John Lafata on drums, the drummer responsible for laying down the ruckus with The Great Lie. And the new Vertigo EP by The Great Lie transports me back to that time! It’s in your face, New York Hardcore, charged, ravenous and raw! And honest, cause that's what The Great Lie is all about!

Nyxora - Good Night Ophelia

And we end this Quick Fire Friday with another gothic touched, romantic, dark cabaret rocker called Good Night Ophelia. It’s by Portland four Nyxora and wanders slowly through classic metal genres and psychedelic inclined hardrock. With an amazing, almost fantasy vibed atmosphere this one three and a half minute song knows how to perfectly set a wonderous scene. There’s something highly seductive about this one… It will definitely lure you in...

Mothman and The Thunderbirds – Gazer

Mothman and The Thunderbirds – Gazer
Self released – 2023
Rock, Hard, Metal, Nu, Grunge, Sludge, Prog
Rated: ***

The new Mothman and The Thunderbirds EP, Gazer is about to be released. Four songs, two covers, one original and one instrumental bonus track. And even though we definitely dig the original title track Gazer, I am pretty sure most everyone will be talking about that Smash Mouth cover song All Star first and foremost. Turning that, dubious song, into an almost nu-metal flashback of that era and punching all the buttons to change the entire track and morph it into an even more dubious version of the original, takes courage and talent. Which they show again with their version of The Byrds’s Mr. Spaceman. Turning this ditty into an insane carnival ride, as crazy as and as weird as a Bazooka Circus kind of trip. And turning up the freak on something The Byrds did, definitely takes skill. And that, it seems, that the Mothman and The Thunderbirds crazies have in abundance. But let’s turn back to Gazer, a song from 2018 the guys unearthed this year, and turned into something short and sweet, prog and sludge metal. A song that seems to be all about cramming as much catchiness into something intense one moment and very wide and big gestured the next. And this in only two minutes and forty-six seconds. Served as a fun side dish to the main course to arrive later this year, Gazer makes one hungry for more. More of their original work… Hungry with a curious anxiety to hear if the next passage around the sun will glitter like gold, and if they will be the shooting stars that will break the mold…

Mothman and The Thunderbirds – Into The Hollow

Mothman and The Thunderbirds – Into The Hollow
Self-released – 2021 (May 21st )
Rock, Metal, Doom, Prog, Sludge, Stoner
Rated: ****

It won’t be released till May; but the debut full-sized album Into The Hollow by one man sludge metal project Mothman and The Thunderbirds is sure to kick some serious alien ass and chew bubblegum. And he’s all out of gum… Mothman and The Thunderbirds puts into music all those conspiracies, cryptozoology legends, fables and Ancient Alien theories we all love to hear about. Infused by all sorts of angst, anxiety and fear about what the future holds for this earth and humanity. The man behind the curtains in this instance is Alex Parkinson but he has implored the help of a bunch of guest vocalists and musicians. Extremely dynamic, the push and pull of both riffs and hooks takes his sludgy stoner metal to dazzling and prog influenced heights. Just over thirty minutes of prog and metal that uses a lot of his own growls; as well as other kinds of vocal treatments. And that might be the best aspect of the album; that with the help of all those other voices the album feels like one giant metal opera that masters like Devin Townsend and Mastodon are capable of. Just like the kind of abrupt Hollow Sun ending track; leaving you, feeling lost, trapped and almost at the end of your tether… Until you start the running Into The Hollow once again…

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

We hope it’s still Friday somewhere cause we are in dire need of some fast action! Some Quick Fire Friday action! You know the deal, still too little time to do things properly, but there is a bit of green light on the horizon. So, we do hope to do some more during the upcoming week. But for now we just want to melt, before we melt down, on this sweltering hot day, in the bath of lave that the Quick Fire Friday is! So here we are! And we know, we know, the albums and bands deserve more than the few words we will jot down here. More attention and more of our time! But there is so much out there and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. So here it is. The Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Friday. And its burns hot like molten lava!

Six Steps Above The Earth - Step 3 Special Edition Cassette

Six Steps Above The Earth’s heavy, slow and monotone sound got a special treatment with their Step 3 release. The Doom, Drone, Doomgaze thereof now gets an extra special treatment on a Special Cassette edition. Those crazy Greek music fiends decided to release only 10 pieces of it! “Step 3 recording period was full of ideas, sessions and lives. In Step 3 special cassette edition we are trying to convey this climate by adding 2 tracks, one unreleased track from studio and one from live recording….” Interested? Better hurry!

Hellhookah - The Curse L.P.

Somewhere around September the awesome Olde Magick Records will release Hellhookah’s latest album The Curse on vinyl. And rightfully so! Sabbathian goodness, dark, ominous and twisted. The Lithuanian duo makes you hallucinate and will damn you forever to the doom! Golden doom it is!

Under The Mountain – Black Velvet

The honorable Bucky Brown stated about their II album : “The albums ranges from straight up heavy rock, to 80's metal, shades of hardcore and back to pulsating doom all in 10 solid tracks. One of those albums you can play on repeat and never burn out. The vocals are straight fire.” We wonder where the guys from Under The Mountain are going next, cause on August 16th they will release a video of their version of the Alannah Myles song Black Velvet. The Teaser can be viewed HERE!

Athon – Reverse Satyr

Argonauta Records will release their first album at the end of September. But we can already get completely crazy on the first single Reverse Satyr! Athon from Italy brings out the Sludge in ten ton heavy form! The album will feature five blistering tracks showcasing forty minutes of pure, raw and finest sludge, doom and stoner metal. It’s Athon on Argonauta and it’s awesome!

Mothman and The Thunderbirds – Nomad

If you tease us by namechecking and stating that your first single is: “a blend of stoner metal, sludge metal, and hard rock, and is recommended for fans of Mastodon, Baroness, High on Fire, and Hyborian.” We will surely go and peruse the bandcamp site provided! Well, the Mothman did not lie and did not exaggerate, if anything, he understated! Nomad is Jupiterian heavy! Freakin hell!
