It’s Tuesday already! Well, as usual, Life got and is getting in the way of the good stuff. So, this is the Top 10 Most Listened Artists list we usually give you on the Monday, but now a day late. We had a cool review last week by Ronny for the Kevin und die tätowierte Vollzeitmutter album. We mentioned the hot Adjustable Mustard record and did two premieres. One for the Forgotten King album and one for the Sonolith single. And then it was Doom Charts time! Doubt we can do a lot this week. But we promise to find the time to finally finish a few posts that ARE almost done! Have a great week!

Oh no... Is that a Spotify Playlist of all 10 albums?!

Morning… FB / Meta has been out of control recently. The Doom Charts has had issues, even though we changed nothing in our operation. And for those following Stoner HiVe, well, you know there’s been loads of annoying stuff happening there as well. And now the news came that the always good, always decent, nothing but good Mel Lie from Sunday’s Heavy Tunes has been completely banned from FB  for no reason whatsoever. You would hope that someone starts a new social platform soon. Incorporation that which was good from FB and keep it completely clean of the nonsense, algorithms and bots FB has been using lately. Wishful thinking? Well… It’s another week and we’re gonna try and post this thing. Shall we try with or without links? Let’s see what happens and fingers crossed it works as it has always done in the past… Cause with new members Jon McGough and Ronny Dijksterhuis we have more capabilities to spread the word on all that good and heavy stuff out there! And it is deserved for them and the bands they write about. Quine for instance or Yajaira! We mentioned clips by Luna Sol and Occult Witches and managed to post that Stoner Hype thing where we blurb about the Numbers 40 to 26 of the last Doom Charts. And let’s not forget, we were honored to premiere that full album by Kahfa, out now on Argonauta Records! Go check it out! Check’m  all out!

The Anomalys
Burnt Lung
Kahfa

Poste 942
Yajaira
Atomic Vulture

Another week in the books. Another week that flew by and where we had little time to really get down and dirty for Stoner HiVe. One reason is that we had to have Greif, the new Zeal & Ardor record on repeat due to an upcoming interview with the man. No punishment at all! What a record! And when Psychlona sends their new release Warped Vision you can bet your ass we will spin that as much as possible as well. And Ruff Majik, Moth Eater won’t come out till early October, but let me state the obvious: it’s a magical rock ‘n roll battering ram once again! The new The Anomalys record Down The Hole comes out in September and it’s another high riding piece of rock! Damn, loads of good stuff arriving in the near future! But others have already arrived and we mentioned a few, like the new Starspawn of Cthulhu, expertly written by Jon McGough or the new Poste 942, Burnt Lung and Midnight Whiskey Massacre. We mentioned that wild single by The Devil's Cabana Boiz and we mentioned that we will be doing a FULL ALBUM PREMIERE by Kahfa this Wednesday! Hmmm, looking at this short screed, I guess we did not waste ever spare minute of the week passed. Let’s see if we can do better this week. Have a great one everyone!

Zeal & Ardor – Zeal & Ardor

Zeal & Ardor – Zeal & Ardor
MVKA – 2022
Metal, Soul, Roots, Black, Avant-garde
Rated: ***

As we mentioned when we mentioned his earlier Stranger Fruit album; it was that album and the 2018 show at the Graspop Festival that completely won me over for Zeal & Ardor. The Swiss avant-garde metal outfit lead by Manuel Gagneux is back with a new self-titled album filled with more magnificent songs that play pied piper to soul, gospel and roots music; luring it across a destitute landscape of metal, black, death and more extreme heaviness. Sure, the surprise effect that was part of the earlier releases might be wearing off; but in its stead come moments of modesty and even grander gestures. There is nothing on this new release that cannot stand proudly besides the Stranger Fruit album; in fact the production might even be better, yet the amount of tracks that truly stand out and stay with you are not as abundant as on the earlier album. Perhaps the amount of hyper jumps between genres that was present on that first Devil Is Fine album has returned a bit and might be too much for someone, a few or at least me…

Zeal & Ardor – Stranger Fruit

Zeal & Ardor – Stranger Fruit
Radicalis / MVKA – 2018
Metal, Rock, Roots, Avant-Garde, Black
Rated: ****

In the end we never wrote about those first two releases of the Swiss avant-garde metal project Zeal & Ardor lead by Manuel Gagneux. Simply, because we couldn’t completely grasp it. It jumped a bit too much around to really get hooked by it. There was something there, something between that ADHD hop, skip and a jump movement through blues, roots, soul and black metal. But it also overwhelmed you with something that felt like too much, much too much. But then came Graspop Festival. And they played to a completely and chuck full Metal Dome (to their own surprise) and the show was so incredibly good, it overwhelmed you (this time the good way) and left you in awe and full of love for the band. So, Stranger Fruit had to be bought. And on it, we still hear that somewhat weird combination of genres… that now work magnificently. With more of a thread through the songs, we can now enjoy a much stronger set of material and be awed by the melancholy and the pain or be chilled by the haunting voice and atmosphere. This is how the first two records were meant to be. And this comes close to Zeal & Ardor live. For that was and is, a true shock and awe experience…
