Well, we’re off to Belgium soon. Down The Hill Festival will start it’s engines tomorrow at 14.00 with The Moondig. But we’re all allowed to park early, get grounded, bump fists with friends new and old and have a fun and relaxed first evening. And after The Moondig tomorrow, many great acts will follow, like Pothamus, Slomosa, Causa Sui, Naxatras, Temple Fang, Atomic Rooster and Ozric Tentacles. But there are many more and I am equally excited to see them all! Perhaps we’ll see you there!

But before we leave… We have that wild FULL ALBUM PREMIERE for Faerie Ring to deliver! Going live in an hour or two! So, if you are not on route to Down The Hill Festival, you can get your groove on with something wild and wonderful! The new Faerie Ring is magical!

The Heavy Underground - Alive and Free…

There is freedom here. A little wilder. A little less cultivated. And yet, somehow, so much is organized with remarkable care. Much is deliberately left untouched, allowing you to simply do whatever your heart desires. And in that space, your heavy underground spirit can spread its wings and take flight. This is the Underground coming alive, swirling through the dust and the beams of light, dancing beneath the scorching sun as it burns down on the grass beneath the often bare feet of all those beautiful souls gathered here. This is Stoned From The Underground, hidden away in Erfurt, Germany.

Roughly the same size as Freak Valley Festival, it might be filled with a greater number of German and Eastern European heavy rock devotees, simply because it is quite a journey from our little corner of the Netherlands. But the road there is beautiful, and the festival is worth every single second of the drive. The crudely painted sign on the road from Stotternheim, simply stating that STFU! is to the left, is a perfect introduction to the festival’s character. No grand entrance. No polished monument. No carefully designed highway sign. Just: turn left here!

And suddenly, we find ourselves among a wonderful tribe of German friends, slowly woven together over the many years of STFU. Some have been returning for nearly twenty editions. Their campsite is less than fifty meters from the festival entrance, although even the furthest corners of the campsite are only about 500 meters away. And that only means you are closer to the beach bar, the lake, and the Hodenhügel hill. Yes, that hill was named by festival-goers many years ago, and climbing it at least once during the weekend has become a sacred tradition. From there, you can watch the sun set or rise, observe the festival lights slowly flickering into life across the grounds and campsite, and simply surrender to its wonderfully uncouth beauty...

STFU began as a one-day gathering back in 2001. It quickly expanded into two days, and when people started arriving a day early, it naturally evolved into a three-day festival. And, of course, people eventually began arriving a day before that as well. So the organizers invited two bands to perform at the beach bar on Wednesday, effectively transforming it into a four-day celebration. Unfortunately, traffic delayed our arrival just enough for us to miss those performances. But it gave us time to settle in, meet our new and old friends, and prepare ourselves for Thursday...

Waking up on the first morning of a festival after too little sleep and perhaps a few more beers than planned is always slightly disorienting. But STFU makes it easy. Grab your swimming gear and head to the lake. Take a refreshing dip, order some food at the beach bar, and wait for Zerynthia to begin. Kraut garage with a distinct dirty and doomy edge... Exactly the kind of sound needed to blast your eyes open and send your energy levels soaring. And over the following two days, Sheev’s ferocity and Zaphod’s witty brilliance would continue that mission...

We could never list every incredible performance from the Main Stage and the Tent, nor would it really serve a purpose. We all know the bands on this line-up deliver. After all, we are here because we already share a love for this music. Good people listen to good music! But Giöbia were incredible. Black Rainbows absolutely destroyed the first day. Space Raptor conquered the second. That same day also brought a wild and fiery performance from Stinking Lizaveta in the tent, followed by a fifty-minute set from Mars Red Sky, fifty minutes of the ever-cool Monkey3, and then a mind-bending thirty minutes of both bands together as the Monkeys On Mars project. On the third day, Rotor delivered the perfect set, complete with a perfect encore. One that could have become legendary if they had returned for that same encore once more. Or twice more. Or perhaps three times more. Grin!

The biggest surprise might have been Year Of The Goat. I had seen them before, but the way the second vocalist Maria Eriksson brought out the very best in Elin Gårdfalk and lifted almost every composition to unimaginable heights was astonishing. Their interplay became something almost alive, moving like quicksilver, while the vocals turned into pure gold. What a performance. Of course, the following set by Elder existed on its own level of perfection. But by now, we have come to expect this from Nick DiSalvo and his companions. And yet, there was something different this time. More fire. More fury. More intensity. Especially in his voice. The increasingly complex compositions reached a frightening level of precision and brilliance. For some, perhaps exhausting. For others, exactly the show they had been waiting for. Combined with the raw power and wildness that filled Nick’s voice that night, it became a performance that will stay with me forever. It might now be my second-favorite Elder show I have ever witnessed...

It was my first time at Stoned From The Underground though, and we can only hope to return. No queue to enter the campsite on Wednesday. No waiting endlessly for a drink at the bar. No lines to collect those wonderfully confusing, differently colored chips needed to order food and drinks, and even free hugs when you receive them. No endless toilet queues. The only thing I would suggest to the organizers is providing free drinking water on the festival grounds. With temperatures like these, it feels strange that it is not available. People do not drink less beer because they can drink water for free; they simply stay healthier and happier.

But beyond that, everything, just like so many of the performances, reached a level of beautifully uncultivated perfection. The wildness is allowed to grow freely. It is not controlled or polished; it is nurtured by simply being left alone. And in doing so, it brings out the very best in everyone around it. It creates the festival the heavy underground could only dream of. Now, as we return to the less successful version of what life has become, we hold onto those moments: the fist bumps with complete strangers, the conversations with fellow heavy music lovers somewhere beneath the shade, and the endless waves of heavy riffs drifting across the festival grounds and the lake toward the crazies sitting on “testicle hill,” waiting for that glowing orb to slowly disappear beneath the horizon....

It's here. And we're gonna make it! After trying to go to Stoned From The Underground Festival in Germany this is finally the year the sun, moon and stars aligned! Can't wait to finally experience this legendary festival. We'll be leaving as soon as we can and hope trafic will be kind to us. But it's a long drive, so we might not make the two bands that are playing tonight. Luckily there are three more days filled with an amazing array for heavy rock! Look at that line-up!

First time at the festival and it will the first time seeing Hästspark. Who are on their first European tour me thinks. Can't wait to rock out to their tunes! But of course, the line-up is filled with great bands! Can't go wrong with the amazing Elder, Black Rainbows, Rotor, Weedpecker, Mr.Bison, Belzebong, Pendejo, Nightstalker, Margarita Witch Cult and many many more...

And we already metioned Stinking Lizaveta!

It’s almost upon us and we’re heading out to Nijmegen in a few hours. Been thinking, have I missed an edition ever since this wild and brilliant festival started in 2018? I think not. And there’s a good reason for that! Cause every year again, the festival sports amazing line-up that focuses a lot of psych and kraut, but also features stoner, noise and punk. Diversity is key and Sonic Whip unlocks your heart and mind! It’s time to feel that energy! It’s time to dance!

Can’t wait to feel Bismut, King Buffalo, Hermano (twice in one week!), The Sword, Earthless, Gaupa, Gnod, Fomies, Acid King, Weite and so many more. And Ronker, discovered on Down The Hill Festival last year has the honor of closing it all out… It’s gonna be a wild and beautiful ride!

We believe art is a way to understand human cognition, and that music - the oldest art form of all - can teach us to recognize our hard-wired emotional nature through shared experiences.
Therefore, we invite you to join our journey on the first weekend of autumn!

The Venue

Old Oak Castle is a very special place, both historically and as an experience. The atmosphere beneath the shade of the oak tree -older than the castle itself- is something that cannot be described. The building has been preserved. Its walls do not hide a polished museum, but rather a strangely familiar world filled with antique charm.
Fortunately the owner is a punk who gladly welcomes people like us, and shares our rock and roll spirit.

Para Hobo is a fantom record label and a one man heavy music art studio.

Psychedelic Source Records is a jam collective and a DIY record label, formed on the ashes of Lemurian Folk Songs. They released more than 80 sessions over the years and won the 'Label of the Year' prize 2025 at Independent Label Fair, Hungary.

More than just a festival, it's an experience: its strong worldwide curation in an intimate indoor and evening-only setting drives the yearly increase in popularity for this Sin City event — a party atmosphere with top-notch sound provided by The Usual Place!

The desert is starting to bloom. So it seems. New festivals popping up throughout the US. So it seems! This could be a game changer. A mind changer. And definitely when you look at the artwork and the place of residence for this brand new festival called: Mojave Experience! So far only two bands announced, but with the location and the man curating the entire thing, there will surely be some more great news popping up. It's Patrick Brink from that wild Volume outfit that's curating Mojave Experience and he has already managed to get both Earthless and Dead Meadow to perform! Mojave Experience is happening on March 20th to 21st, 2026 in Joshua Tree, California...

The Mojave Experience festival today announces the dates of the first annual event taking place from March 20th-21st, 2026 in Joshua Tree, California. The festival is the brainchild of organizer and High Desert native Patrick Brink, frontman of VOLUME and former lead singer of desert rock legends Fu Manchu. Early tickets go on sale on October 3rd.

Co-headliners Earthless and Dead Meadow are the first artists to be announced in the lineup, with many more of the 16 bands confirmed to perform over two nights. The lineup includes legends in explorative and countercultural music, as well as future ones now making waves.
