Shem – II

Shem – II
Clostridium Records – 2021
Rock, Kraut, Psych, Space Instrumental
Rated: ****

Sure, when a bandmember contacts you and apologizes for finding out about the little blog so late and then goes on to compliment you on the ‘short and witty reviews’; you can bet your last dollar that we will mention your newest record. Five piece Shem released their II album on the early days of March through that lovely German label Clostridium Records. A label specializing in kraut rock, psychedelics, ambient and long winded marvelous adventures. And Shem could not have found a better fit! Their three track release gives you forty minutes of instrumental psychedelic goodness. Trippy and spacey, the three tracks seems to manipulate the sound that surrounds you, some notes slowly decay until you hear nothing but a memory. While others build and resonate until the spectral incantation moves from thin air to thick delivery. Dramatic on some moments, dangerous in others and always beautiful; even when the noise seems to resemble a train grinding to a halt. In short, these three krautish movements form a pulsating galactic symphony of epic proportions. And we would have found out about it, and told everyone about it, even if the guys had not complimented us on our ‘short and witty reviews’…
