There’s a storyteller at work here. And song smithies. For the three tracks on the new The Swords of Sorrow EP are meticulously crafted and immediately audible is that these three tracks would benefit from a bit more production or recording value. But the Bridgetown, Australia, quartet Organic Green Monster Machine released their first single back in 2023 and after three more, this is the first EP. Each of those tracks show great promise and a sincere knack for crafting something special and mesmerizing.
For The Swords of Sorrow is a spellbinding journey, through heavy psychedelia, smoky blues and sprawling fantastical landscapes. Across three richly textured tracks, the band weaves a hypnotic tapestry of stories and atmosphere, where thunderous rhythms meet delicate melodies and drifting instrumental passages. Opening the EP with The Raven Prince, storytelling and cinematic grandeur. The Blade track follows and sinks into a slow burning psychedelic haze. And it ends with The Highway Song, a Purplesque track, that gradually gathers momentum before erupting into its heaviest passages…
Like a gigantic tome opened at the right pages; the adventures, the tales regaled often feel like a journey through shadow and light, unhurried and deliberate, resounding ancient echoes of mysterious voyages into unknown worlds. Fantastical! Organic Green Monster Machine has awoken; and The Swords of Sorrow is the first chapter of a wild and dangerous grimoire that will surely be written…
