Straight from the darkest hole or bleakest mountain in Switzerland comes the NachtAltar duo. A two-piece black metal outfit that sure knows how to deliver sonic violence and still manage to retain some form of melodic control. The German mostly guttural growl vocals are not necessary my cup of blood, but we can agree that they definitely fit the compositions featured on this two track EP. Two tracks lasting a bit more than ten minutes give you intense black midtempo riffs and more speedy parts that are accompanied by a multitude of growls, gutturals and grunts that on those moments of many do give NachtAltar this extra edge. Shrieking fast almost mechanical drum work and battering riffs leaves no reprieve and on those minor moments when they incorporate a fuming breakdown it will only give you a diminutive extra amount of oxygen; even at the end of the second track when it is all over. Indeed, suffocating, incensed and ultra-black, Verhängnis will leave you hanging in the end and it will feel like freedom…
