We’ve been mentioning the good man of Vidaguerrilla in various Quick Fire Friday segments and that BuzZz feed thing we did. But when the new 7” arrived at our doorstep it felt only right to do something more. Simply called Major Destroyer Records presents…, the vinyl is brought to you by the record company in the title. Two sides, four tracks and all of them completely overladen with fuzz and with enough noise to fill your eardrums to the max. But it never starts to overrule the compositions. Which are clear but experimental. From it comes the vision of the true outsider. A righteous Howard Roark or a character from a Henri Barbusse novel. There are desires that stir in him and separates him sharply from other people. You can feel the confusion and the bewilderment. And still some form of contentment or perhaps acceptance. And that problem stems from that earthly vibe, cause even if the clamor is ever present you can feel its simple touch through it all. A last gunslinger if ever there was one…

Voodoo Idol, a female fronted power trio from Moscow, Russia. Sense, their debut album, released about two weeks ago. Sleepytime, the first mind blowing song on the record. With an underlying storytelling eighties rumbling bass, which seems to belong to Wall of Voodoo or Stan Ridgway (reminding of Bel-Air Blues) (which in turns stems from the nursery rhyme Brother John), that first track takes you by storm. It might be caused by my love for those two earlier mentioned acts, but for me it has turned into a might worm. It has hooked it's voodoo claws in my brain and will not release its hold. I cannot seem to get enough of that first song or the rest of the album for that matter. Nine concise tracks in all, that are beautiful and have this sort of polyrhythmic aggressiveness to it, perhaps thanks to that edgy voice of vocalist and guitarist Alina Goldobina. It sounds like cracked crystal and is exactly the right color for their kind of music. Which also turns groovy and danceable once we get further down the tracks, nineties alternative inspired and… Shit, let’s stop beating around the bush here and just state the absolute obvious: I love this album. Sense, by Voodoo Idol is exactly the kind of record I need at this moment of time. And I am sure everyone reading this will be just as smitten!

We love Baby Woodrose. And have been loving these Danish freaks since their beginning now about fifteen years ago. And when the new single and video Open Doors was released we knew the upcoming album was going to be one sweet ass ride once again. And we were definitely right, cause Freedom is beautiful. The concept and the album, on which they definitely profess their thoughts on the concept as well. In songs like 21st Century Slave and Mind Control Machine it is obvious. But it flourishes on almost every song and definitely makes this album something even more righteous than before and adds without a doubt to the quality. Lorenzo and the boys definitely wanted to profess more than just their love for psychedelic, garage and free rock. They want to tell their truth and we can only listen, nod our heads and agree. But ofcourse there are those of out there who care little for messages and just want to bang out and rock hard. Look no further! Cause Baby Woodrose takes care of all comers and will disappoint nobody! Get hooked and find Freedom!

Seeing them live last year only secured my love for these freaks. Which is good, since it had been growing like wildfire ever since back around 2012 when Legend Of The Space Born Killer came out. Which ofcourse was sort of re-released as Something Supernatural two years later. And then the band decides to take cues from Hunter S. Thompson as well. Well, I guess when yer right, yer right.  Yes, we are referring to the Crobot freaks, which have released a new album called Welcome To Fat City. And it’s still powerful funky hardrock which pays homage to the blues roots of old and all that goodness from the seventies. And thanks for the groovy nineties take on this all they sound like a Crobot defined. This is their very own sound and its sounds insanely good!

They entered the Doom Chart of October 2016 on an impressive third spot. And just like the fact that their Super Van Vacation record made the Stoner HiVe Top 20 countdown of 2011. We can count on this new release to make that list as well. And rightfully so! For the third full-sized album Repeated Exposure To by Greek quartet 1000Mods is chuck full of fuzzy riffs, wide guitar vistas and unquestionable good hooks. They’ve been around for exactly ten years now and have without a doubt delivered many great EP’s and albums, but this new record feels like the exact right chaser. Aggressive when it wants to be, wild and groovy or even bluesy. This album has it all, washes down all that came before and is a definite crowning achievement after ten years of playing.

We knew something heavy was at work, constantly pulling the ever darkening cloud-cover southeast. Slowly covering everything from horizon to horizon. It was a low full look all of us recognized. More heaviness was to come… And there was the idea that this storm might be the worst they’d ever seen…

Every month again. Over and over. All of us are amazed by the huge quality and enormous quantity of all the new records released. We cannot stress enough that there is a large pool of us music fiends who send in their lists every month and from it the Doom Chart is deduced. Which means that there are even more albums out there that just did not make this simple list, due to the fact that only a few of us voted for it. It is also the reason for the quick turnaround for certain albums, there are just more and more great ones pounding at the door waiting to be heard. And we all gladly listen and give’m all a chance. Cause we love our heaviness and can’t wait for every one of those storms to be unleashed…

Pioneering musicians from Christbait, Legends of Motorsport, Blood Duster and DernRutlidge who have all been playing together for a long time in various incarnations and now continue the journey with The Ruiner. Their nine track self-titled record definitely sounds more mature than the 1996 Dirtypunkmutha album Christbait put out. Which is logical since that was 20 years ago. I unfortunately will never become a big fan of these kind of vocals. But when it is done with this intensity, as if the singer might collapse on stage after three songs, you can only admire it and give credit where credit is due. Sharp like a razor and performed right there on the very edge. That’s right. And with a highly metallic bass vide and ditto riffs the tracks soon become this fine mash of stoner metal and sludge. But then the fourth track 10 Paces rolls around and the vocals turn cleaner and the composition bluesier. And I like it. I like it when those other vocals are there as well. It turns this second half of the album into something much more enjoyable. Are those first few songs bad? Hell no, it’s just that the latter are much better and we are mighty glad to have The Ruiner around!

In about two weeks’ time Kozmic Wanton will unleash their debut effort unto the world. Born out of the ashes of Gods Monkey the guys behind the new outfit are the main songwriting duo that was GodsMonkey, Stephan van de Kimmenade and Chilco Dobbelsteen. With a handful of songs the duo dove into the studio under guidance of Theo van Rock and Pieter Kloos. They ofcourse searched for extra hands to help out and found those when bassist Onno Kortland (Stuurbaard Bakkebaard) and drummer Jacco van Rooy (Suimasen/7Zuma7/Motorpsycho) showed up. The four tracks featured are without a doubt accomplished. Damn fine grooves, positive sounds and tasty hooks. Four compositions that keep your attention fixed at the horizon and your ear to the ground. Much bigger in their aim and vistas than ever before. Gradiose rock, that's what it is! There’s a lot to discover here even if it’s only fifteen minutes of Kozmic Wanton fun. Fifteen minutes of great Kozmic Wanton fun!
