The tension builds. The arc goes wide. But then the narrowing tunnel starts to vibrate. We’re experiencing everything Dead Sea Apes want to translate with their new five track almost forty minute long adventure. It’s called Psychic Tension and absolutely sounds like the title… Like the noise you hear ringing in your ears when the straitjacket is buckled tight, the straps are pulled another notch and someone wheels you into a room filled with blinding white lights, and you are unable to prepare yourself for whatever the hell comes next! 

I did not envision it myself, for there’s a man strapped to an operating table on the cover of Psychic Tension. And frankly… That just might be the safest place to experience this record. Dead Sea Apes seem to have decided that the human psyche is now a legitimate piece of laboratory equipment. And as you lie there, you hear them wheel it all in. Enough feedback, fuzz, drone, noise and colossal riffs to perform brain surgery with.

They’ve translated the nervous breakdown our civilization is going through and as we all know, it comes in circles. Mind bending repetition, krautrock influenced and nodding towards the more garage take from psychedelic Japan. Those first three tracks alone, feel like emergency lights exploding and all that flashing might induce epileptic seizures, visual hallucinations, and flicker vertigo. It comes to a head at the end of Severance. And for whatever weird and possibly insane reason, Ursa Minor then sets you right and on course… The revolution might not be televised. The downfall of civilization however, the entire apocalypse, seems to be soundtracked. 

These are the Dead Sea Apes, bringing you their version of the future or the past or the present. Whatever the time period, there is no end. For it all goes in circles. Especially if you put it on endless repeat. Just strap yourself down. Listen and watch what happens…
