Single Premiere
Rapidly Aging – Unsaved
It’s time for another Premiere! Today we’re premiering the brand new single for… Rapidly Aging! It’s called Unsaved and it’s the second single for the You’re Not Yourself Lately album coming out October 2nd. The album… Filled with atmospheric post-metal for those hours when sleep just doesn’t want to come. Slow burning guitars, swelling from distant whispers to enormous, aching waves… Lap steel poetry, violin stains all bleeding melancholy into those sprays and noise. And somewhere between all those … and a dream long forgotten, you wake up, walking alone, on an empty street at 3 a.m…. Exhausted, dissociated and slowly disappearing into the madrugada… Unsaved, maybe less indicative of the entire album, starts as a single note floating through an empty room. Quickly added by more. Which immediately turns into a crescendo; where the room fills with thunder. A storm whirling constantly, until the thunder passes, leaving windchimes to accentuate the feeling that something important might have already been lost forever…
Listen to Rapidly Aging’s Unsaved now, and get ready for You’re Not Yourself Lately, dropping October 2nd!

Rapidly Aging is a solo exercise in space, ambience, and emotion by Atlanta, GA based composer and multi-instrumentalist Shalor Howell. Channeling everything from the smoothed out soundscapes and textures of Brian Eno to the crushing weight of post metal á la Pelican or Mogwai - Howell has a knack for pulling his punches and rewarding the patient listener with the sonic equivalent of an epic film mid crescendo.
Rapidly Aging was bore from a rare break in the traditional creative process of sole member and composer, Shalor Howell. His primary band, the Atlanta, Ga sludge titans Canopy were on pause - which gave way for Howell to birth his longtime passion project; the result of which is the esoteric and powerful You’re Not Yourself Lately. The listener is treated to a 40 minute showcase of Howell’s mastery of all things “post”, weaving through cinematic soundscapes and crushing riffs alike.
Originally conceived in 2025, the songs were slowly compiled at home as a sort of unofficial soundtrack to the film The Man Who Sleeps (Perec, 1974), with samples providing the de-facto narrative to the otherwise instrumental affair. The final studio versions were eventually recorded at Meadowlark studios (Atlanta, GA) by Greg Hendler with the help of session musicians Matt Hendler (drums) and Ethan Fogus (lap steel guitar, violin).
Those familiar with Howell’s work in Canopy will not be surprised at the quality of You’re Not Yourself Lately, but they will be impressed with this new evolution. The amount of space lent to the tracks allows for a new voice to be heard from a familiar songwriter; patience, world building and attention to detail shine through each of the seven tracks - lending themselves to an incredibly memorable listen that will certainly reward those who choose to keep coming back.
