Weedow – Weedow
Self released – 2024
Rock, Stoner, Doom
Rated: ****
Man, I love Krakow, Poland so much. And I figure the dudes from Weedow found out and immediately decided to send their promo to me. Nah, there I go being delusional again. They’ve been sending out their promo to all the Heavy Underground sites. And I’m very happy they did! Cause this is an album everyone should hear! Cause their full-sized debut is full of hazy, psychedelic stonerrock and doom and has been spinning here ever since! That earthly rumbling underneath, those guitar solos, the tones, the heaviness, the haziness: it’s blissful! And even though the Weedow name references those green leaves, the songs themselves are of a much deeper and higher nature. And where some doom albums tend to lean too much on tone and the slow march, the seven tracks on the full-sized debut of the Polish three show they have been careful in showing more width and elasticity in their compositions. Some splattering with doom energy, others more languid and all of them balanced and intriguing. Nine minute and a half long sixth track is indeed an ode to goodbye, a building reverie towards something ecstatic, and where some bands might have gone guttural or howling, the Weedow three have a guest singer named Wiktoria Kowalska recite a poem on Threnody, lifting that one track out of the mud and haze with that sheer brilliant touch. But all seven tracks add something different to their overall classic sounding doom, and therein lies the addictiveness of Weedow.
