Black Bottle Riot – Soul In Exile
Suburban – 2013
Rock, Hard, Southern
Rated: ***
We dug their Hungry EP from 2009. We were smitten with their full-sized self-titled record from 2011. And now the Black Bottle Riot boys are back with their follow-up Soul In Exile. Sounding even more American and increasingly southern than before and smelling even more like cheap bourbon, burning BBQ and stale beer. The band sounds tougher and more concise. Ofcourse their very own mixture of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Crowes and Allman Brothers still tastes good, familiar and juicy. But on occasion they show us even more. Something with more soul and even brighter Black Bottle Riot spirit. It’s during those moments that we feel our blood racing and our bones jump with glee. Let’s hope their next effort is filled with exactly that. And probably even more…
