Sasquatch – IV
Small Stone / Bertus – 2013
Rock, Stoner
Rated: ****
The third album by Los Angeles stoner force Sasquatch made it all the way to Number 3 of the Ultimate Stoner HiVe top 20 albums of 2010. This year saw the release of their fourth album aptly titled: IV. And it’s once again one damn fine beast of an album. They show use that there are still enough heavy sounds to be discovered in that massive desert and stoner landscape that Kyuss was first to explore. But the Sasquatch threesome does not seek refuge underneath their big arms. No. They uproot the cactus and plant it somewhere in the middle of a rundown LA street. Which means that there’s this tiny metal edge that resonates when the guitars arch towards the sky. But for the most part the songs just explode with heavy rhythms, grimy fuzz and excellent riffs. And then there are the vocals, which have turned up the heat and have gotten way more epic. Just listen to songs like Eye Of The Storm or Smoke Signal. Big and hairy, like a righteous Sasquatch…
