The Lemmings - The March of Provocation
Self released – 1998
Rock, Grunge, Stoner, Punk
Rated: ****
Before Shovelhead became Shovelhead the guys that made up the first version of Shovelhead were going under the moniker The Lemmings. On their only album The March Of Provocation from 1998 the sound is very similar to the later Shovelhead records. Perhaps they sound even more like Mudhoney and The Stooges than after the name change and perhaps they have even more Hendrix influenced guitar outings. Their hard driving, raw, aggressive and rust-colored noise stems form their very own unique blend of psychedelic blues based riff rock. Their dark melodies and hypnotic rhythms are mixed by jam like solo’s and true 60’s and 70’s inspired nomadic string offerings that would definitely turn both of the Jimi/Jimmy heads. The Freehold, New Jersey powertrio produced something timeless and an album that has all the makings of a classic gem later to be rediscovered. So where’s Indiana Jones when you need’em?!

Has some damn good stuff on it. I wonder what the guys are doing now? Cause the last Shovelhead album was released in 2007 or 2009 or something right?
