Coliseum – Sister Faith
Temporary Residence Ltd / Holy Roar – 2013
Rock, Punk, Stoner
Rated: *****
Hailing from the dark and bloody grounds of Louisville, Kentucky the trio known as Coliseum has been racking up their kills for three albums on end. But with their new and fourth one Sister Faith they aim to slay the world! Celebrating their tenth anniversary and a new bass player the album seems to be chockfull of new and exciting moves and modes. Incorporating something dark and brooding, an ominous rhythm and a forbidding atmosphere that puts beads on your forehead and drips down your spine. Their dark heart rock ‘n roll stems from something wholly fatalistic and melancholic. Powerful and evocative the thirteen songs leave a heavy imprint on your soul. It leaves a stain in your heart and makes you move like a caged tiger. And with a little help from friends such as Wata of Boris, J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines), Elizabeth Elmore (Sarge, Reputation), Jason Loewenstein (Sebadoh, The Fiery Furnaces) and Jason Farrell (Swiz, Bluetip) on the honor roll the album simply drifts towards something mythical. A beast with two horns and a fuzz pedal that will make will make the thunder scream “bravo”. These are true songs for the doomed…
