And yes, here we are once again with another lovely band that pays homage to Black Sabbath, produces songs lasting for about eight minutes, without too much speed and sounding like a Kyuss of old. The cynic in ones soul could become harsh and claim that the flood of stoner bands emerging and roving through the alternative rock scene are not producing much of an own sound, new ideas or simply strong songs. And ofcourse there are always those emeralds and diamonds to prove that the cynic is always wrong. The American born Caltrop is one of those lesser stones; still bright and shiny but not too expensive. Their album World Class counts seven songs, which are sometimes ingenious and sometimes come across like a faux pas or a missed opportunity. It’s a hard starter; but once it gets rolling things do get interesting and vocals, roaring solos and seeping riffs do get quite tasty. One for the true devourer of everything stoner related!
