The sophomore album Invisible Empire by the Monster Magnet family tree rockgroup Riotgod is one heavy pounding son of a gun. With effortless simplistic but massive riffage; its the steady driving rhythm of both the strings and the drums that take the cake here. And even though the vocals have surely improved since their first release; it is the groove that makes it tasty. Simply irresistible sluggish and heavy we are guided along for the better part of the songs. With the obligatory and weak ballad to break the steady march and to prove the rest of the album is pure beauty. Little to nothing reminds of Monster Magnet and it is safe to say that Riotgod has a promising future ahead. For with so many clinging riffs and homage to the rock of yesteryear; it is only logical that the next will blow us all away. Pantella and Baglino for president!
