Major Kong – Doom Machine

Major Kong – Doom Machine
Self released – 2014
Rock, Stoner, Sludge, Doom, Metal
Rated: *****

The Orogenesis EP released 2011 marked the demise of the Fifty Foot Woman. And the rise of Major Kong! After which the Polish trio released the full-sized and amazing album Doom For The Black Sun in 2012. An album that gives the universal nod to the ‘godfathers’ of the scene but also moves decidedly into a different direction. Instrumental prowess that builds on stoner and blues roots with massive doom and huge jams like qualities. It made its way to the Stoner HiVe top 20 countdown of that year. And now the Major is back with their follow-up Doom Machine. With even more fuzz and even more hypnotic riff slaying. Their very own version of sludgy doom moves ever forwards towards a slow churning centrifuge. It turns out the machine is capable of pulling apart the riffs, pushing out the unnecessary stuff and making it magnetic, mesmerizing and pure. Add to this a guitar that seems on the verge of exploding on certain moments, the insane bass work and the fifty foot drum pounding and one can safely say that the machine is green no more. Dahaamn!
