For the most part on their self-titled debut release, the Brilliant Machine trio sounds like one of those bands from the proto-metal age that were hopelessly forgotten and recently re-discovered. But they do have this early skater punk or groove punk edge that resembles something from the late eighties or early nineties and perhaps moves even more towards grunge in a certain way. And with this grimy lo-fi production value the five songs on the album just bounce and bop straight into your heart. Just listen to When The Walls Come Down and try not to relive those moments on the ramp when you were enjoying Suicidal on your Walkman. But before one assumes it is their main forte; one should check out the chuggin, monstrous and wild first track American Squares. It’s an ape like posture with two knuckled fists on the table. Sbam!
