Atomic Peat - Demons Coming Home Self-released (single) - 2024 Stoner rock, heavy metal
From Osnabrück, Germany, the hard-rocking trio of Atomic Peat come a-knocking this Halloween with a new music video and single, "Demons Coming Home", and it's an absolute treat. Dealing in stoner rock grooves with a decidedly metallic edge, the crew lay down crunching riffs atop an infectious, bouncing rhythm, soundtracking the footage of a man quite literally running from his demons. Slickly shot and tongue-in-cheek, the masked antics do not disappoint, and it's clear the band are enjoying themselves as much as we are. Atomic Peat's creativity and sense of humor are on full display, and it's a pleasure to behold the combination of top-notch riffage and a wholly original video, not to mention the soaring vocals and solo that are the cherries on top. Evenin! Well. No posts whatsoever last week. Too busy and too much life and death stuff happening. Loved ones leaving this plain of existence and my lovely misses having a grand weekend of celebration for her birthday. It all took some time. We realized we even forgot to put up a Spotify playlist last week. That busy. We hope to do at least one post this week though. Cause next week we’re off for a little one week surprise holiday trip. November Fire – Through A Mournful Song
Released about a week ago, the debut album by New England three November Fire called Through A Mournful Song. Manic energy in abundance, savage, ruinous and delirium inducing. Released September 27th the two sides of this one release are no tranquil voyage towards infinity. Every riff will fill your being with visions of monuments in ruin and the fall of civilizations, but you will want to keep toking, cause in it, you will see our future.
Released… TODAY! (Or it should be according to the books...) The debut three song release by French quartet Sheraff called Concrete By The Ocean. Sure, they released a demo in 2023, but the improvement these Brest four show on their official release is stunning. Compressed and massive, the three stonerrock tracks are raw and powerful, gritty and colossal, thanks to the doom touches and the metal movements. Sheraff has got the goods!
Back in 2017 the four Men of Mayhem released their Doomed To Life album. Stoner rock, metal, speed rock, hard rock and more. More mayhem that is! And Church Of Crow Records took it upon themselves to re-release that wonderful seven track album. And it will arrive in one week time, on October 25th!
Boogie down and get groovy with the new CCQueen single Electric Kisses. A damn cool video to boot! We mentioned their damn cool Scavenger album back in 2022 and hope the new single is a precursor to a new album soon. Only two and half minutes long, it oozes sensuality and will surely make your body move!
Aeternal Chambers does have some of that Obiat vibe. You know, that band that released that awesome Indian Ocean album in 2022. And Aeternal Chambers features three of its members and turns their sound into a slightly heavier and totally instrumental version. Living in different parts of the UK and Australia, it’s safe to assume they send each other their parts and played of what was received. The output is stunning, highly atmospheric post metal and intense arcs combining and intertwining the light and the dark, the fleeting and the Aeternal…
Ultima Radio hails from Graz, Austria and has been releasing amazing stuff since 2015. Basement Session is their newest six track release and came out on October 4th. Crazy good stonerrock, alternative metal and all sorts of heaviness. With a new frontman at the helm, on the synth, guitar and vocals, the band has grown to immense proportions. Eight Foot Manchild - Do Spirits Return? DOOMBRASS Records – 2024 Doom, Heavy Brass Rated: ****1/2
How about being attacked by a doom loving brass section that's not only about to kill conventions, but also your typical, traditional, slouching, four-string loving axe wielder, to take over his/her/their place in the band and run of with the drummer and guitarist (both held at gunpoint range) to produce some fierce and fiery doombrass? Fiction, you say? Not in Eight Foot Manchild's world, where baritone sax and tuba take over the bass duties and a trombone acts as if a second guitar has never been an option in the metal world. From the first horn blow until the last thump their new ep 'Do Spirits Return?' leaves no doubt that it's doom metal with a stoner touch being played here, just not in the way we're used to. Bold, raucous and thundering brass attacks with an equally ferocious foundation of drums and guitars, rounded off by a creepy take on sludge metal vocals that grind through horror stories with a humorous edge. It's the world turned upside down and it fits Frankenstein's monster bolts to a tee. 'Do Spirits Return?' is one hell of a sonic assault that doesn't take prisoners. No, it takes us - the listeners- out at first sight (no questions asked) and buries us before we're able to blink our eyes. If we're lucky we might get summoned to roam the earth at night, devoid of our souls, but with a wild gaze, heavy limbs and locomotive imperfection. So, to answer the album title: probably not, but I'll be begging all things horror to give Eight Foot Manchild some slack and let them come crawling out of a multitude of graves to unleash their ruthless doombrass on us converted zombies for years to come.
Remember when we sang the praises of the lovely Els Bruinewoud and her Love For Loud booking agency. Well, she continues to amaze and do the good stuff over in Amsterdamn! A scene is blossoming around De Tanker and De VerbroederIJ in Amsterdamn and she’s got a whole lot of good stuff line-up for the remainder of October and November! You might want to consider moving to Amsterdamn!

Rückwater - Bored Machine Inverse Records – 2024 Stoner, Alternative Rock Rated: ****
Imagine cactuses growing on an icy plain in midwinter. Somewhere on that plain a derelict log cabin. Inside that cabin three musicians praying to the desert gods to keep them warm. But those gods aren't willing to obey straight out the gate. They want those musicians to practice their butts of, dig into the depth of their frozen bodies to summon the energy needed to create an inner warmth, to envision a desert outside their cabin and become one with the environment they're longing for. Thus said, these musicians start churning out beat after bloody beat, riff after bloody riff, until a portal appears that transports them straight to the vast, barren landscape of Joshua Tree Park. There Rückwater find redemption in combining the stoner rawk of bands like Red Giant with the magic of Kyuss, the distinct melodies of fellow Finns Mangoo and a healthy dose of alternative rock to shape and perfect the sound for their second full length 'Bored Machine' that offers eight sweaty songs in 45 minutes.
They open proceedings with 'N.O.T.S.Y.', a melodic stoner song based around fierce, bulldozering grooves and tons of melodic passages for some welcome balance. It's without a doubt one of the best tracks, but this lake of frozen dust offers much, much more. 'No More Air', another highlight, sets you on the wrong foot with some nice acoustic guitar, suggesting a heartfelt ballad about a lover lost is in the making, but sooner rather than later they wipe the ground from under your feet, letting you fall into the dark pit of hell with aggressive metal-type riffing and an even more aggressive, black-meets-death-metal-style vocal delivery. 'Home Economics' on the other hand summons the spirits of El Caco and aforementioned Mangoo before ending in an all-out stoner frenzy, while 'Birthday Boy' adds an unexpected touch of punk to the mix.
Closer 'Waiting for the Ride' is the most epic tune, veering off into progressive territory, being at the same time the most pop-sensitive and most metal-minded tune. Once it's finished the portal closes and the musicians are back where they started - in that log cabin in the middle of nowhere. Looking out the window there's light brown sand as far as the eye can see. The sun, high up in the sky, produces a blistering heat and the cactuses wear a smile of approval. Yes, Rückwater have brought the desert to Finland and it's a place of sheer beauty.

We wrote something about Bozoo and we’re honored to bring you the Full Album Premiere a day later. A mention also appeared for The Black Furs, Waingro, Acid Rooster and Your Highness, all of’m albums one can get entire lost in! And we can’t wait to get lot at Helldorado Festival, Eindhoven, November 16h… Yes, only a month away! Let’s see if we can get something posted this week as well. We always hope so! Acid Rooster – Hall of Mirrors Tonzonen Records / Cardinal Fuzz / Little Cloud Records – 2024 Rock, Psych, Kraut, Space, Instrumental Rated: *****
Arriving on October 25th through a trio of labels, namely Tonzonen Records, Cardinal Fuzz and Little Cloud Records, the brand new Acid Rooster album Hall of Mirrors. And if you know any of their earlier releases you know you will be tripping balls within no time! Cause Hall of Mirrors will have you see every reflection of every possible universe as you dance yourself into a frenzy. It’s a through the wormhole kind of experience and it keeps amazing me how much the instrumental psychedelic kraut rock albums are still able to deliver that experience. For there are many and many of them are good, Acid Rooster is one of the best! Automat opens the ball, momentary echoes of eighties rock, turn into space rock and propellant for a trip through the many iterations of the kraut vibrations. Highly energetic, extremely danceable, the shortest track, almost six minute long, with glittering noises at one point, sets you up in perfect style for the rest of the album. For what follows is the longest one, clocking in at more than fourteen minutes, called Chandelier Arp. The glittering turns into a shimmering diamond of brilliance. Boldly building and leisurely lifting the entire composition into an outer worldly trajectory. And as you float in a sea stars, the embrace you feel will be warm and cocoon like, and the smile will be yours and will be one of surrender and euphoria. Both of them show a lesser experimental side of Acid Rooster perhaps, but in doing so give the listener the trip they’ve been longing for. Even if they weren’t longing for it at first glance, one look through the glass will make them see the time they did chance to explore their inner workings by travelling outwards. Third track Confidence of Ignorance, turns a bit of an oriental and meditative corner, turning towards the other side of transcendental music. And even though the title might suggest otherwise, this track feels its paying homage to the pearl in the lotus. Perhaps that is the key here, that salvation and enlightenment might be found in ignorance. The music naturally flowing through your meridians will give you a sense of healing and regeneration, vibrating at the right frequency, this almost eleven minute long drowsy psychedelic, kraut and space rocking beauty will make you feel lost and at the same time find yourself finally feeling at home within yourself. Transcendental minimalism reaches its peak with the final fourth track When Clouds Part. Especially during that focused opening section, that shows you vibrant fast forward blossoming, like a multitude of Sakura trees going full bloom in minutes. Its beautiful and given the state you are in, might bring a tear to your eye. There is no shortage of beauty to be found on this album, it resonates and reverberates in every corner of Hall of Mirrors.
Your Highness – Under The Weight Polderrecords – 2024 Metal, Sludge, Stoner Rated: ****
These Belgian mothersludgers have been releasing albums since 2011 and their new, fourth one, is called Under The Weight. We’re talking about Your Highness and their sludge and stoner metal is this time colored with a huge variety of majestic touches. A bit of blues here, some Americana and roots there, a bit of oriental and only a bit of their older influences like punk and hardcore. Well, a bit, they’re always there of course. Ever since releasing Cults ‘n Cunts back in 2011. But they’ve grown so much since then, and the way they’re now able to stretch the tension, to build the arcs and tell their story is stunning. The way opening oriental, Hindustani intro track Agni, calling up the Hindu god of fire, transitions into that crushing second track and single Fire To The Storm. Crushing, but always with a second line of melody flowing underneath or on top, so beautifully done, offsetting the theme of destruction that runs through the album with sheer perfection. Absolute stomper Above The Odds, feels like a crackdown on your senses, setting fire to your nerve endings, clenching your every muscle, howling your doom. Celestial Burst sees Your Highness returning to the thing they did on Fire To The Storm. A miniscule timelapse towards the intro so it seems, relentless chugging ensues and enters that rootsy and bluesy americana sounding guitar. Intense and with more emotion the vocals remain harsh and gruff and somewhere a bit buried in the mix there seems to be a second voice screaming along. It adds to the atmosphere and it adds to the weight of this track, immediately turning it into the focal point of the album. The sound running deep and makes you feel Your Highness has no use for anything narrow, it’s incredibly wide and huge, and seems to be meant for the ages. Like granite. And when the whistling starts, you feel the devil standing behind you, urging you forward, towards the blaze. And blaze it does, the entire forty minutes of Under The Weight, feels like a fire that can fuel itself for a thousand years…
The 16th of November is approaching fast! That’s right, we’re only a month away from our new adventure in search of all that legendary rock ‘n roll gold! It’s almost Helldorado time! And the line-up is sporting a lot of beer soaked, sweat dripping and thrash can kicking goodness!
Legendary, indeed, for it will be Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes final show before they are going on a long vacation, hiatus or whatever you want to call it. Your last chance to see these crazy rockers in action! And of course we can’t wait to see Baroness, Graveyard, Pallbearer, Cobra The Impaler, John Coffey, Dool, Zeke, Tankzilla, The Spades, The Baboon Show and all the other great heavy rock, punk and metal outfits!
