You listened to The Sky Never Dies single yet? And were you immediately lusting after more Bentrees? After more of those soon to be released tracks on their new album Silver Veins? Well… Visit Stoner HiVe on Wednesday October 15th to hear all of them two days before the album is released! That’s right, we’re honored to host the FULL ALBUM PREMIERE for the new Bentrees album Silver Veins and have been hooked on more levels than one to this new outing…
For some albums ask you to sit and listen, but Silver Veins, the third release of Sardinian psych-stoner duo Bentrees, asks you to take the journey inwards. From the first crackle of fuzz on The Sky Never Dies, it’s clear this isn’t just a rock record. It might function as a mirror. One that reflects the sky on the silvery surface below and shows that the landscape can be both external and emotional. Sardinia, with its sun bleached cliffs and windswept valley might have inspired the textures, but the landscape this albums saunters through is just as much about inner tension, duality and all those questions that live deep within our hearts…
Bentrees, Riccardo Podda on guitar and vocals, Mauro Cocco on drums, never overwhelm you with their sound. Instead they carefully build a space. Silver Veins flows like a thought process in motion. Slow, looping, reflective. The tracks all neatly nestled between roughly six to eight minutes, are never indulgent, but flow this way because discovery rarely comes in shorter bursts.
The opener unfolds gradually, letting the stoner rhythm and the ever present fuzz simmer while Podda’s voice, chased, haunted and deeply human, narrates the journey. The Sea follows with layers of sound that almost feel like a memory, abstract first, then gradually forming into something sharper and grounded. Resounding like a mirror, reflecting and turning not just into a song, but into a process and a shift in mindset.
The eight and a half minutes of Away, takes you away and with its enchanting opening, opens the door into whatever dreams may come. There is more motion and a rise of inner tension, but also those moments of calm, where you get to sail away with the tones. But it might be Alienated, that truly reveals the album’s core philosophy. Spanning seven minutes, it builds from ambient reflection to crashing intensity, perfectly capturing the mental dance between stillness and whirling winding storm. Hypnotic and insightful, the closing title track Silver Veins, does not necessarily opt for acceptance, or offers answers, but let’s the duality play out in sound one more time. And with those closing tones, Bentrees show that even stonerrock albums can be perfect for solitary walks, late night thoughts and moments when you are just trying to understand yourself just a little bit better. And the Silver Veins is here for you to listen and to resonate. In a genre known for volume, this under current of honesty seems to hit even harder.
