Shit The Cow – Killing It
Self-released – 2025
Rock, Stoner
Rated: ****
We fear we completely missed the Pool Party! EP from 2023, but luckily we are here now for the new Shit The Cow… Cause they are Killing It! It’s been many a year, when a curious EP from a Swedish band with a name as strange as a prophecy enter my range of hearing. We were there for their first incantation, Volume/Cow and then Salt of The Earth, both hinting at untamed elemental power and an alchemical fusion of punk, stoner and garage grit. And there for most of everything that came after…
So, many moons have waxed, but the Shit The Cow gang have returned with a 13th offering called Killing It. An EP forged in the secluded forge of Rissna City, deep in the northern woods of Sweden, where five sonic mages brewed their boldest potion yet. I say five, but it’s actually six for they have Elias Nilsson joining on saxophone. We’ll get to that magic sax soon! The opening track, Revolution in Decay, gallops in like a battle anthem from a crumbling kingdom, melodic yet fierce, with a surprise enchantment of strings casting an eerie calm before the stoner rocking storm resumes.
Each track is a shapeshifter. Oxygen Kills roars with the smoke of stoner riffs, only to have that early mentioned wild saxophone burst forth like a phoenix mid-flight, completely unexpected and totally glorious. Brand New Style thunders in like a riot, fueled by deep bass and anarchic fury. But no two beasts are the same: Recall Voyager II creeps through the shadows, a dark sorcery of grooves and dystopian dread, a touch of Iggy and completely captivating.
Then comes Always by Your Side, a chimera of punk, new wave, and stoner soul, a track that shifts form mid-flight, bending time and tempo. And finally, Overlord descends like a warlord from the north, galloping with thunderous might, closing the saga in a blaze of distorted glory. Killing It. No longer ramshackle, the tracks are touched by a new kind of magic but still feel like it’s all written by a band that refuses to tame its wild heart. They remain completely untethered and feel guided by something older, deeper… Shit The Cow tap into some pure magic of unfiltered creation…
