We’ve said it before, Church bells, Church organs, that soft whispering flutter of Church candles in the wind… It all spells doom! And the new offering Sixth Storm is definitely doom. The classic metal version of doom! As we are used to by now from the three that are Count Raven! It’s been twelve long years since the last album but Dan ‘Fodde’ Fondelius and his two other Ravens return with an excellent nine track new record. Well chosen guitar colors deliver fine work but without ever delivering song carrying riffs; vocals that paint the right doom metal canvases and tell the tales of Count Raven; but also never become really memorable. Often drifting towards an Ozzy approach; and the music towards that of Sabbath. Which we definitely love! As well as the overall atmosphere, which shows us once again that Count Raven can do nothing wrong… In fact, we could state Count Raven does everything exactly right; but therein lies the rub… For in that perfect execution of the music of doom, what dreams may come… What will o’ the wisp will be able to lure your imagination through the Sixth Storm into wild and unexpected territories… Not many we suspect; we suspect in fact that many will perish in the tempest; without ever finding that favored coast… But hey… Better an ignis fatuus… Than no illume at all...
