Intronaut – The Direction of Last Things
Century Media/Sony Music – 2015
Metal, Sludge, Prog, Core
Rated: ****
The album was recorded live and none other than Devin Townsend did the final mixing. We are referring to the Los Angeles quartet Intronaut and their newest release The Direction Of Last Things. If you’re looking for easy listening or laidback music for the wee hours, turn around. This is intense, intricate and ambitious music for music lovers that love the strenuous take on metal. Luckily the boys have not gone deeper into the experimentation with Eastern and African rhythms like they did on their former release Habitual Levitations. But don’t think they’ve become easy accessible. That is not what Intronaut is about. Heavy, that’s the keyword. Overwhelming and intelligent are definitely other phrases that fit the bill. And whatever way you end up listening to this record, keep tracking that massive and luscious drum work and that truly awesome bass sound. So yes, don’t fill your stomach with too much stuffing this Christmas, leave some room for Intronaut. You’re gonna need it!
