30,000 Monkies – Somewhere Over The Painbow
Self released – 2013
Rock, Sludge, Noise, Metal, Core
Rated: ***
Massive and heavy and impressive basswork lead the way on the first three tracks of the new EP Somewhere Over The Painbow by the Belgian foursome 30,000 Monkies. Its unholy clamor and gritty cacophony are simply impressive and show us bitter darkness and foul tasting sweet and sour. And that’s just the beginning; for closing effort Batteram really goes for the gusto. Thirteen minutes of pure excellence filled with an awesome atmosphere and pounding drums, marching riffs and howling screeches and growling vocals. It starts with some eerie and frightening keys and vocals, which seem to point towards the listener as if the bell finally tolls for you. It then meanders from intense black through al the different shades of grey and back towards something with every color of the painbow. As if the boys wanted to stomp their musical dynamite in your belly and watch it blow out yer guts; like a rainbow…
