Adjustable Mustard – Adjustable Mustard

Adjustable Mustard – Adjustable Mustard
Self-released
Rock, Jazz, Soul, Psych, Sixties
Rated: ***

A touch of jazz and soul, spicing up their sixties inspired psych rock. A voice that has a touch of Grace Slick and guitar tones that make you long for those days that the good kind of electricity was sparking everywhere. We’re talking about the two that go by the name Adjustable Mustard and after gracing us with a single and two EP’s, Your Love and Pure Love, they’re back with a full self-titled album. Adjustable Mustard is the vehicle for Katie Pitts and Will White, married and clearly encouraging each other to sound off their songs of faith and love into the world. Often uplifting in their own singular way and always encouraging the listener to believe that the right kind of energy is still surging around the globe and ready to make a come back at any time. Yes, the eight songs on Adjustable Mustard will transport you back to sixties, rekindle your poetic spirit and often set you at ease. Even at moments when the blues spies around the corner, like on Dead End Road, the underlying music will make you bop your head and simply accept that some avenues will never lead you anywhere. Closing out the album is The New Science, an atmospheric, very slow starting instrumental that for the first minute crawls under your skin and then gradually turns into goosebumps. Then as the guitar loudens and takes you by the reign, those goosebumps turn to shivers and then calm you down before closing out with a soaring sound that is as dreamy as it is uplifting. Closing out the album in perfect synchronicity.
