Next up at the HiVe we've got a duo out of Magnor, Norway with their new EP; Songs for heroes by Battle Elk. The first track on the record called Shield wall was an instant attention grabber for me. Where were the heavy massively fuzzed out guitars? Where was Ozzy? Who cares! These guys don't need ‘em. The track is bluesy and has a hint of the outlaw western theme. I personally love that shit! The next tune is just as good with the exception that it is a little more progressive and less western. Both members sing on the album and their voices meld quite well. The guitar playing is well orchestrated throughout the record, but they do utilize some good programming and/or synth on the record. That fact makes me curious to see how they would pull off a live show… Although I could care less at this moment cause I'm too busy enjoying the sweet sound of their last track Black Sector Highway. This record is for the "drift away crowd". It's bluesy, progressive and mellow all at the same time. So grab yourself a cloud and tune into Battle Elk. Great Job guys. I really enjoyed it.
