Wanna hear what our comrade and former Karma to Burn and Year Long Disaster bass player is up to nowadays? Well, Rich Mullins is knee deep in hay and bourbon, working on new stuff with Billy Brent Malkus from Texus Sapphires under the moniker The Broken Harvest. Filling in on drums for this pure guitar based honky Tonkin power rocking trio is Scott Matthews from The Derailers. Together they’ve formed a posse that is riding high on a dusty trail that might lead to the Treasure Of The Sierra Madre. But if not; they will still fill the air with great music for steamy backyard parties when the summer is breathing fire and the coals are white hot. It’s Crazy Horse Neil Young, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard influenced by punk and eighties craziness. Don’t worry; those are just the little sparkle points among four bourbon soaked Americana tracks that rock hard and will rock your chair even harder. Now crack open a bottle, sit back and hope that little breeze doesn’t die down…

Their debut album The Ways Of The Gingerpig by Boudewijn Bonebakkers new outfit Gingerpig was a classy and successful adventure into the world of classic hardrock, blues, seventies rock and progressive currents. And as lover of those golden eras you could taste the pure love the guys themselves have for that time period with ever note and every melody. So after that first album; we could only wait for the next one and hope it would be just as good. Especially when news came of the departure of organ man Jarno van Es. What would that do to the sound? Well, Hidden From View continues on where the debut left us. The trio has once again delivered damn fine songs which are once again dyed with Hammond, jazzy drum fills and groovy percussion. The biggest difference is probably the feeling of the songs; much more concrete and less jammy. Even though their eclectic nature has not diminished one bit. With Run they start their raid, Nothing is the hard rocking winner and closing track Ugly Heart is the shiny black prize in the end. Brilliant!

And now we can only wait once more for their new stuff. This time around bassist Sytse Roelevink has left the band and Stef Gubbels from !Pendejo! has joined the band. What will that do?

Did you ever wish you woke up still drunk on the bar of the Titty Twister and not your local hangout? Have you ever longed for even more dangerous and dark drinking holes where the beer tasted like mescal and looked like it too.  Where the old wrestler type lady behind the bar could just as easily be a dude and the entire night you’re there she never once lights up a new cigar stump. And something perilous and shady drifts through the air. Well, give the album Black Soul by Dario Mars and The Guillotines a listen and you’ll be right there before the second track starts. The record works as a perfect soundtrack to one of those crazy nights; a movie never made by Tarantino or someone else for that matter. Rattling sixties and seventies mixed with surf influences and dark dark dark soul. It burns a hole right through your wrist and puts the whisky in yer belly in flames. And the man behind it all is Renaud Mayeur who you might know from his little stint with Triggerfinger when he fell in for van Bruystegem. Or from his own damn fine rock outfit Hulk (Or Hulkk) with whom he recorded in Rancho De La Luna or from the equally amazing Les Anges or the stunning La Muerte. Yes, he is a busy little fucker and with Dario Mars he has produced an excellent psychedelic film noir extravaganza that is as sinister as it is mysterious. So put yer head on the chopping block and get wicked!
