Witchrider – Unmountable Stairs
Fuzzorama – 2014
Austria. Home of Queens Of The Stone Age and Foo Fighters. O’ wait. No. This is a totally different band. But these guys have surely been studying the Palm Desert scene a lot. Cause Witchrider’s new album Unmountable Stairs is filled with the same kind of choppy riffs, languorous falsetto and melodies that go against the grain. A howling guitar here and there and hooks that are so catchy you reckon they were stolen from their heroes without a thought or a mention of ownership. But then you realize it is done so damn good that you forget the fact that it might sound like QOTSA and accept that it comes from that great Alpine country. And after that you are simply convinced, not all of this robotic desert rock has come from the Mr. Homme and his friends. No, there are other droids out there and we should welcome them all! So start the head nod, open a beer and pump your fists, cause we love this fuzzy stoner from the mountains!
