The Dust Bowl – Sangre Grande

The Dust Bowl – Sangre Grande
Self released – 2014
Rock, Stoner, Hard, Psych
Rated: ****

They hail from Zaragoza, Spain and have been on their sacred mission since around 2009. They are called The Dust Bowl and Sangre Grande is their second album. A highly energetic album that mixes nineties alternative with grunge, stoner, hardrock and minor seventies psychedelic influences. But most importantly sound sundried and windswept. Like those major sounds we all love from Kyuss, Queens Of The Stone Age and Fu Manchu. But with overtones of fuzzy melody and grimy harmony. And then there is that garage or even beat edge, which has you thinking of certain bands that also live in the desert but have opted to go for the easy and fun side of music. But, there is no inside joke hidden within Dust Bowl’s Sangre Grande. No, these guys aim warm the blood and put the good fire into your belly. Just listen to those swaggering guitars, intricate riffs, cathedral build ups and stomping drums. And then there are the vocals, which are exactly far enough out of reach to add to the mysticism one moment or give it that catchy edge the next. This is big. And let’s hope it will become huge!
