Espectro De La Conciencia - Fin Del Tiempo

Espectro De La Conciencia - Fin Del Tiempo
Self-released – 2024
Metal, Doom, Stoner, Sludge
Rated: ****

Founded somewhere in Guadalajara, Mexico around 2016, as a duo Espectro De La Conciencia has finally delivered their debut full-sized album. Fin Del Tiempo was recorded over a lengthy period and even though they might still operate as a duo, they had help on bass from Themo Alonzo and Dwight Gonzalez delivers tuba for third track Posesión. But on every other aspect it’s the two going by the name of drummer Rogelio Casas and everything else by Gabriel Cortes H. Leaden riffs trust upon you over drums that thunder and boom or more settled and sunken doom moodiness that gets extrapolated by the slow crash and stomp. And even though Espectro De La Conciencia seems to excel in the more aggressive sludge and barreling metal, complemented by a wonderfully harsh bellows and roars. There are those subtle doom moments that offer that instant atmospheric touch, the glimpse into those end times. That raw and slow opening of Esperanza Muerta, leaving little to the imagination, no hope left, no green light on the horizon, just death and despair. Only towards the end we are treated to a slow color changing sludge riff and drums that almost seem to escape the gravity of the situation and the rhythm itself. Espectro De La Conciencia sound like old masters on their debut album, and the music on Fin Del Tiempo sounds like it would make smoke rise out the massive wall of amps behind them…
