Off to ride a mountain…

Off to ride a mountain…

It's time for a break... We're off to Austria to find a mountain or two to snowboard down from. Let's hope for some decent snow. The weather predictions are good. But the quality of snow might be limited. Even so, it will be grand... Cause we're also celebrating the fact that my princess and me will be married ten years. Ten years. How time flies... Still can't believe she said yes...

No updates for a week... But hey... There's still that Doom Charts Top 100 to scour through, the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown and all those massive Personal lists from the Stoner HiVe Team. And otherwise I  am sure you will get your fix for all those new releases popping up from all those other blogs and sites!

And as we make our way over to Austria, we will surely be listening to the live Hermano album, the new Weedpecker, Stargo, Capacopter, Gran Moreno, Oreyeon, New Mexican Doom Cult, Beelzebong, Stonus, Hypnotic Pattern, Mount Palatine and Astral Voyager Vol.2... You know... The follow-up to last years Doom Charts Number 1 album by Kal-El... Hope to review them all when I return...

You got any more tips for the road?

Thanks for following along..

 Seeya’ll in a week!

Hermano – Clisson, France (Live album)

Hermano – Clisson, France (Live album)
Ripple Music – 2026
Rock, Stoner, Desert
Rated: ****

Legendary Hermano. Back on the road. I always counted myself lucky to have been there for their first incarnation. The W2 gig that was recorded and later on when they returned to my hometown Eindhoven, where they had the very cool but short-lived Repomen (which thankfully gave us Komatsu) open up for them. And this year… I’m gonna be freaking lucky once again. I will definitely see them twice once more. And can’t wait for May to arrive. I wasn’t there in France though. Not last year. And not back in 2016 when they recorded the live album that has been spinning a lot over here. Hellfest, they sure got something special going on. And so does Hermano

They obviously need no introduction. And to be perfectly frank, the live album needs no review. This stands as a testament for those who were there at Hellfest, for those who’ve seen them live somewhere and for those who desperately want to see them live. And will be able to at any of the nine dates currently lined-up in Europe. Quality wise the sound is there, visceral, engaging and seducing. It will make you lust for more Hermano…

And if When The Moon Was High mini album had not been released back in 2024, this new live album would have been so much more. Remember that one? With Breathe? And Never Boulevard? But three of the tracks were also used for that release. One of them being Love. That one ‘new’ track. Which hold such a savory groove and tempo you can have it on repeat for the entire afternoon. But that would probably dismiss a bit too much of the rest of the live album, for the setlist was pristine and the band on fire.

No Sugarhill Gang at all, this is the Hermano you hope to hear. Always. So… If you were there. At this Hermano live gig, some other one or desperately want to be there, this is for you. This is a release for you. They’ve played that gig and recorded it, just for you.

Accabadora – Mazzolu

Accabadora – Mazzolu
Self-released – 2026
Metal, Doom, Black
Rated: ***

After a quiet knock heard at dusk in an old and dusty village, one will know the end has come. A new three-piece dragged from the depths of a twisted night and the brink of demise. They’re called Accabadora and hail from the Netherlands. Fronted by Maurice de Jong, the man behind the experimental project Gnaw Their Tongues. Their first EP Mazzolu will be out on February 1st and will undoubtedly move all Conan and Amenra heads. This is doom metal not played but administered. As if summoned from a shadowed dimension where time slows and every breath is heavy.

As are the vocals, suffocating benediction that crushes the ear and leaves silences trembling in its wake. There is a ritual here, pitiless and steady like a funeral march. Those riffs, rough and jagged one moment and then almost calming, for an instance, as if mercy briefly flickers like moonlight across a blade. Doom is here the last sacrament, and the drums hit with the weight of finality, each blow echoing that final heartbeat heard in that ancient house in that old and dusty village…

Stoner.Blog.Hu interviews Stoner HiVe

Well… The title explains it all… We were absolutely honored to be asked to answer some questions for the awesome Stoner.Blog.Hu. This Hungarian blog has been around since 2008 and has provided Hungary with every bit of heavy news and reviews since they started. And since the interview went a bit long, Nikodém István, the man behind it, decided to run it in two parts. Which means I get to clog up his site with my nonesense even longer! Humbled and honored amigo!

But of course, we could not help ourselves to also ask him some questions about his blogging experience and the Heavy Underground in Hungary… And found out he also does the Fémforgács site and Stonerforgács vlog. Seriously cool! So, soon, we shall also post an interview with the man behind Stoner.Blog.Hu! Thank you again Nikodém, for bestowing these honors upon little old me!

Mount Palatine – Wormholy World

Mount Palatine – Wormholy World
Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records – 2026
Metal, Doom, Psych, Prog, Sludge
Rated: ****

A crusading force rises out of the wasteland like a sworn knight emerging from a blinding sandstorm. The dust cloud is dense, thick but through it you can see the outlines of a band called Mount Palatine emerging with an album called Wormholy World, here to stabilize the particles into one focused sphere. Once traversing that globe under the name The Paladin, the new name feels like a much better fit. For this heavy psychedelic doom sounds mountainous, concentrated yet hallucinatory and very strangely philosophical. As if they survived an apocalyptic event and learnt what’s truly important…

Seismic riffs and molten grooves, colliding with melodic after shocks as the horizon cracks and breaks. There’s a new sense of confidence here, as the band leans into longer forms, deeper atmospheres and a definite willingness to let things breathe and exhale before finally detonating. And even though there is still ground to gain when it comes to the vocals, the scorched-earth rasp has its moments and sometimes even seems to ground all the chaos with human pain and grit.

But as the record  unfolds, meditative passages blur and weave into sludgy gravity wells. And as those fragments float in and out of focus, songs almost seem to rebuild themselves mid-collapse. Nothing stays still for very long. Themes, eastern or abstract, yet always intimate and enticing. Luring you deeper into their world. A Wormholy World that feels like a half-remembered future or past, from a gone away world. A time where meaning still matters or mattered or will once have mattered.

And as you traverse their landscape, you hold on as the final stretch, embraces its cinematic scope with even more feverous energy and daring. Ever heavier, searing and stranger, with grooves that hit like collapsing structures and melodies that refuse to die down. They return over and over. Just like Mount Palatine themselves. For, Mount Palatine stand not as resurrected ghosts, but as warriors who have laid their former selves to rest. Having buried The Paladin, they rise without hesitation, declaring their true form, victorious among the fallen, unashamed, and crowned not by ego, but by conviction. Wormholy World is here to make you swim with the wind and peek behind the curtain…

And we are honored to host the FULL ALBUM PREMIERE for Wormholy World on February 5th ! So check out the first two Mount Palatine singles today and return to Stoner HiVe on February 5th for the FULL ALBUM PREMIERE!

On with the show...

On with the show…

Now that we are finished with the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown of 2025 and all those Personal lists from the Team Members we can start to look forward into the new year. Soon, very soon, we shall continue on with the normal Stoner HiVe broadcasting service... Trying to get the word out on as many of those great releases we hear on a daily basis. And we will continue to do this in our own silly way. Often a bit too late. Sometimes a bit too early. Perhaps even about albums released in 2025 or before. But always, yes always, about an album we love in some way, some shape or some fashion. It's why we do this thing!

If you dig it, keep following along. We love it and are humbled by the fact to have seen the HiVe slowly grow and spread since 2009. You can't believe how much we appreciate that. But rest assured, we keep doing it anyway. It's our addiction. We love music so hard, we can't stop talking about it, writing about it and sharing our love for it with everyone we meet...

And I guess, that most of you crazies out there that discovered the HiVe might just be as addicted as we are... Well, welcome to the HiVe! It's warm and cozy in here and yes, we're oozing with love for every sort of heavy rock!
