White Orange – White Orange
Self released – 2011
Rock,
Rated: ****
Their love for the Palm Desert scene and Brant Bjork becomes apparent fast and we always dig people wearing their colors on their sleeve. And with their other band Black Pussy the boys from White Orange even dedicated the On Blonde album to the maestro himself. With the endeavor they call White Orange they released their self-titled debut in 2011 and produce a more psychedelic take on everything we love from Kyuss and Queens of The Stone Age. The gritty distorted fuzz is every present and soaks you through to the bone as the space age tour the force takes you from one meaty riff to the next. Lush, vibrant and with so many kandy-kolored adventures the record will keep you tripping for days. One small point that could be considered as criticism by the ignorant. Dustin Hill’s vocals fit in perfectly with the music and the mix is excellently done. But the excessive use of that one effect might throw people and even makes Dusty sound like Mr. Homme on those occasions. Which probably wasn’t the intended result. Although it might just be the Hawaiian mushrooms talking here. The trees are alive! The trees are alive and look like Sigourney Weaver!
