In my eyes, indisposed
In disguises no one knows
Hides the face, lies the snake
The sun in my disgrace
Boiling heat, summer stench
‘Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream
And I’ll hear you scream again
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
Won’t you come (won’t you come)
Black Hole Sun – Soundgarden
The tragic passing of
Chris Cornell in May 2017 affected a lot of us deeply here at The
Doom Charts. For many, he was the voice of a generation. For myself, Chris was the perhaps the main reason I became so fascinated with Heavy Rock/Metal music back in 1995. In my younger years, I was more of a Dance/Rave fan. Though that was until I heard Chris legendary vocals on Black Hole Sun and he turned my whole outlook on life upside down.
From that, I bought all of
Soundgarden’s discography and they quickly became one of my favourite ever bands. Discovering Soundgarden led me onto other grunge bands such as Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam. Though at the same time I started to discover bands such as Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Fu Manchu and heavier bands within the Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal spectrum.
If it wasn’t for Soundgarden and the legendary vocals of Chris Cornell, I may not have discovered the bands that I love and appreciate today. Though it all started with Soundgarden and that haunting riff…..
Thank you for the music Chris. Your legacy lives on….
