Ronny Dijksterhuis – Personal Top 40 of 2024

Ronny Dijksterhuis – Personal Top 40  of 2024

The last to join the HiVe gets to be the first who’s Personal list of Favorite albums of 2024 gets shared. It’s the resident poet Ronny Dijksterhuis! At one point part of the legendary team of a Dutch music magazine called Up Magazine he has then went on to share his thoughts about music online and his poetry everywhere. Performing, slamming, reading and all with a righteous dramatic touch. Below there is no drama; only love for the good and the heavy! Forty of his absolute favorite albums of 2024. Top 40 Most Scrobbled Artists of 2024

Top 40 Most Scrobbled Artists of 2024

Before we get going with the Personal lists… My own Personal Top 20, and the lists of the few crazies that write or do something for the HiVe whenever they have time and energy. We want to share the list of Most Scrobbled Artists of 2024... Cause yes, we still scrobble, we scrobble the shit out of a lot of stuff. And this list of scrobbles, is a list of scrobbles that does not include Youtube, Soundcloud, Spotify or Bandcamp. All of which we also use. Spotify very little. Youtube and Soundcloud a tiny bit… And Bandcamp quite a lot. We love Bandcamp! But here is a list of most scrobbled artists as scrobbled by a media player. One of those old school media players. That’s right, some people still use them! Simply because of digital promos sent and digital albums bought and downloaded. So, this isn’t the amount of vinyl listened or cd’s played. Nor is it the list of artists listened to, while on the road to nowhere in particular. Nope, this is a list of artists scrobbled while sitting fully clothed or stark naked behind a computer screen typing away and reaching auditory climax by all that heavy goodness scrobbled…

So, this is the 40 Most Scrobbled Artists of the total number of 923 artists scrobbled this way in the year 2024… With for the second year in a row on top… Ruff Majik!

1 Ruff Majik
2 Slomosa
3 Zeal & Ardor

4 High Noon Kahuna
5 Psychlona
6 Luna Sol
7 Orange Goblin
8 No Man's Valley
9 Sergeant Thunderhoof
10 Cobranoid
11 Sivert Høyem
12 Slift
13 Jegulja
14 Young Acid
15 Joan as Police Woman
16 Blue Öyster Cult
17 24/7 Diva Heaven
18 Dätcha Mandala
19 Scorched Oak
20 Warpstormer

21 Madrugada
22 Holy Tears
23 Skraeckoedlan
24 Greenleaf
25 Teen Mortgage
26 Ufomammut
27 Duff McKagan
28 Captain Zero
29 Duel
30 Castle
31 Clocktopus
32 Mammoth Volume
33 Sun & Sail Club
34 The Neptune Power Federation
35 Kintsugi Empire
36 Mothercrow
37 Blues Pills
38 Deaf Lizard
39 Deville
40 EMU

The Red Lantern

The Red Lantern

We haven’t been able to do a Red Lantern post every year. Cause the albums that earn the Red Lantern are only those on a sent in list of twenty entries, where they occupy the 20th position, and then only get voted for on that twentieth spot that one time. The years when this did not happen at all, we just invented the Bottom Dwellers post. And the reason why, remains the same. We just love the fact somebody out there loves these albums so hard they want other people to know about them. And we are here to help out! If only a tiny little bit.

So, since the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown is a weighted list and not every lovely freak out there sends in their list as a Top 20. Some send more, some send less. But we only count the albums that receive a Number 20 spot on any of the lists sent in as a contender for the Red Lantern. So this year, we have FIVE albums that received only one vote as a Number 20 spot on someone’s list.

A Swarm Of The Sun - An Empire

The Swedish duo is known for their contemplative post metal and thoughtful atmospherics. This is musical melancholy personified by post rock soundscapes so deep and so thorough that it will become this harrowingly beautiful dream. One that rests on the edge of the universe and a nightmare…

Momovudu – Momovudu

We wrote about Momovudu early December and you can read that HERE. "... They creep and crawl into every fiber of your being and will become the air that you breathe. You inhale and exhale along with the drums, the bass and feel so much relief as you float away with those guitar sounds. A sound so huge, dense, thick and pulsating, that the walls that surround you will seem to be alive, grow all sorts of greenery and extend ever more outwards..."

Red Mesa - Partial Distortions

The Red Mesa three hail from Albuquerque, New Mexico and deliver searing stoner metal with sludge tones and a definite nod towards NOLA. Progressive moments and powerful trucking takes these six tracks into a sonic space where the desert sky seems to be falling down...

Season Of The Witch - Vol. 2

When you open an album with a Judy Garland snippet you are immediately a class act in my book! And Season Of The Witch continues to be classy by taking their proto sound into absolute classic territory. Blues, proto, psych, doom and that West Virginian occult touch has you longing for this season to be forever...

Slash – Orgy Of The Damned

The Guns 'N Roses guitarist's second solo album is filled with blues covers and guest singers. All odes to the blues masters that gripped him when he was just a young boy. Featuring vocalists like Beth Hart, Billy Gibbons, Paul Rodger and Iggy Pop. The last one turning Awful Dream into one of the most exciting tracks on this fine album. And so does Chris Stapleton for Oh Well. And even though the maestro dislikes instrumental guitar albums, he decided to stick a pretty good instrumental Slash's Metal Chestnut at the every end. Nothing bad about this at all...

Onwards and Upwards in 2025!

Onwards and Upwards in 2025!

These are the Numbers 21 to 100 voted for the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown of 2024.

Best of wishes to each and everyone out there! Take care of yourself and the ones you love! Be good to the people you meet. Treat them as you would like to be treated. It’s the most important thing you can do. And of course, promote all those bands and albums you love so dearly!  We know who produced the Number 1 album of 2024 according to all you lovely voters! Slift! Ilion was on so many lists it was crazy and a lot had it listed on the top of their lists…

But of course, you all voted for many many many more albums. We won’t be sharing the total list of 759 albums, but we will share the Top 21 to 100. With Karkara’s All Is Dust on Number 21 missing six points to be equal to Emu at  Number 20. And Grin’s Hush needing 412 to do the same. Those are the 21 to 100 in spots, where quite a lot are tied as well. If we would publish the the list to separate the ties, we would need another 32 spots and end up with Witchorious’s album at Number 100. So once again, loads of albums ended up with the same amount of points below the Top 20, which means once again that the quality of releases has been amazing. We’re sticking with the 21 to 100 list below. As you all voted for it! And marvel, like we do at the end of every year, at the amount of amazing freaking heavy music release this year! Let’s hope 2025 brings as much of the good and heavy once again!!
